I have absolutely zero helmets 40 hours in the game.. No schematics for helmets and no drops. Early on I had some drops but they are way low level at this point. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug? The most puzzling thing tho is absolutely zero schematics so far. Not even one. I am level fifteen mage and I stil have that cloth cowl on which is kinda dishearting plus the helmets  for the rest of my team are becoming kinda obsolete. Also armor upgrades are very scarce as are acccessories. Note that I explore a lot and its always weapons or armour. I am playing on nightmare if that tells something about drops and gear

I bought a bunch of schematics. They don't seem to drop often.

I didn't have any luck with mage helms until after Here Lies the Abyss.  There is some good ones for crafting though.

 

I found some at the vendor in Val R.

40 hrs in isn't really a good judge, where are you at mission wise?  I seemed to start getting more helmets after exploring Hissing Wastes, plus there's a merchant there who has a lot of good schematics.  The helmets are very lacking though even with that
