Right now I'm spawning at the upper right emerald graves camp and just running along the river until I find one. I'm finding it dreadfully slow, anyone got a better way?

There's a great bear in emprise du lion west of the frozen lake not too far from the first camp, I believe.

Are you looking for fade-touched leather or just the regular stuff? If it's just normal great bear hide, you can choose Leliana for the Gather Leather operation at the war table and get 6 Great Bear Hide as a reward every 12 minutes. That way you can collect it passively while doing other things.

I've had the one in Emprise du Lion respawn several times in a row, just watch out for wolves joining the fight

Emerald Graves, rush of sighs (north-west of the map) has 3 great bears to hunt. There's also a great bear cave close to the starting camp in the area (south-east) that will have a big un spawn once you clear the rift there.

They all drop 4-12 pieces of great bear leather.

Had the same thing: the great bear would respawn almost immediately after I would turn the camera away. Got at least 5 bears this way with 5-10 peaces of leather in each. Buuuuuut... then they stopped spawning. Completely. Since then I had not a single great bear in Emprise Du Lion. Probably glitched out.

Yeah Emerald Graves have alot of Great Bears

The War Table mission called "Gather Leather" or something similar will net you 6 Great Bear hides every 12ish minutes if you use Leliana to do it.  You have to keeo going back to restart the mission, but you can play normally in between.  No actual hunting of bears.

And it respawns quite quickly, some times almost as one drops the other spawns (just finished farming 10 of them back to back along with canine and  snoufleur leather, and it all comes to you

If you just wanted hide, you can use Leliana in war table mission called "gather leather"

This is how I farm GB hide when I want it, but the war table operation is great if you have other stuff you need to do.

There's a rock formation in Northwest Hinterlands, North of the "level 12 Fade Rift." That area spawns 3-9 Bears at a time, on an almost constant basis. Most of them will be Great Bears (it's the area they send you to for the "claws" quest, I believe, but I don't remember for sure.)

 

Be careful, though, the areas spawns enemies at a massive rate, and even if they're a mix of rebels/templars/bears, they seem to target the party instead of each other, most of the time. You sound like you're advanced in the game, though, so they're probably quite weak compared to you.

Since the game is glitched and buggy like hell and the schematic farm is a nightmare you can have it way easier if you like. You only need one item to dupe glitch the **** out of it.

Does this still spawn post-Patch 3?  I tried for almost an hour right after the patch and never saw a single one.  Pre-patch, it was like I couldn't even get them to STOP spawning.

Heh, yeah.... *looks sheepish*... It's been staring me in the face and I didn't even realise, just thought it was one of those rubbish missions that gave you tier 2 junk you could pick up by the hundreds
