I am 20 hours in the game and got skyhold already. Was fairly sure that I read somewhere that army management and troop movement is a feature available to the game.

Will there be a menu detailing the number of troops you have recruited as well as which specific ones? i.e Templars, gray wardens etc. Will there be a feature assigning a specific number of troops to a particular place?

Was under the impression that this is a game wherein you can customize troop movement and manage an army. Thanks.

No, there's none of that.

There's kinda sorta some kind of management. Me being the illustrious leader and the best tactical mind of all Thedas managed to get my entire squad killed. In some cave.

I actually felt really, really bad afterwards...

There's technical troop movement on the War Table, you can send troops, spies, or diplomats places but you never actually see it happen or anything.  The only time you see your scouts get a foot hold of an area in a cinematic is the first time you have to do it for the Hinterlands, any other time it's just a report.

I guess technically you are controlling troop movements as well when you place camps to control areas, and some places after you come back will have banners saying protected by the inquisition, with some having troops.  That's really it though

That was definitely one of the areas that can be improved with the DLC/Expansions, because we really should have overall troop numbers, and stuff to actually 'do' with them.  Even if it's just simple stuff, it would go a REALLY long way toward making it feel more important.  Of course that's actually a good thing, when you consider that even as awesome as this game is, there's still SO much they can do to make it even more awesome.  It's just gonna keep getting better and better!

I wish! I like getting into the nitty gritty like that, similar to Banner Saga. But alas, it is absent from DA:I.

Hopefully the new Metal Gear Solid will scratch my base building/troop management itch.
