In the Emerald Graves, there is a temple which served as base for the Emerald Knigths. There are recordings there of what happened at Red Crossing.

 

Skirmishes had been fought for some time along the border. One day, an Emerald Knigth fell in love with a human woman. Intent on living with her, he was going to convert to Andrastianism and live in Red Crossing.

However, he was followed by an elf who discovered the affair. That elf returned to the other Emerald Knights who decided to follow the previous one to Red Crossing to demand an explanation.

When the human woman saw one of the elves, she ran at her with something in her hand. The elf shot her.

Turns out, she was holding a letter for the Emerald Knigth she had fallen in love and that she had been followed by people from Red Crossing. When they realized what had happened, they attacked the elves and were slaugthered.

 

Afterwards, the first Emerald Knigth found the corpse of his love and was discovered by humans who killed him. His body was then discovered by the elves and the rest, as they say, is history.

All them Dalish with "Them dirty, racist shem destroyed out nation cause them evil" propoganda only for it to turn out that they stuck the blow that began the war.

Glad they crushed the whole: "Elves are perfect and innocent victims" thing and confirm that they are idiots just like the rest. Except they are bigger idiots because they actually destroyed themselves.

Oh we did. We made fun of Dalish for weeks. It was a fun time. Many people raged on the forum. That and them killing mage children by starvation and abandonment caused many a laughing riot. In the end, most of the fans either raged and stop talking about it, or completely chalked it up to humans being awful or it's "everybody's fault."

It's more about the title than the fact he made the thread. On another note, you should read elf threads more often. Bring popcorn.

BTW, there's this other great códex entry on that Temple.

Some Keeper admonishes the humans for forgetting that Andraste called Shartan "brother" right after praising the Emerald Knigths for swearing an oath they would never allow a human to step foot in the Dales.

In my opinion though, I find it noteworthy that the Emerald Knights tried to remember and immortalize the truth and their mistake, even if the other Dalish chose to forget.

Guilt can be a powerful emotion, more so considering their stupidity led to the death of their entire nation.

 

And one of the Knights, the one that actually arrow'd the chantry sister, was the sister of the elf about to defect right?

It's a tragic and interesting story which has now become fodder for forum trolling.

It's not trolling when BioWare makes it canon though. We said the Dales were corrupt enough to go to war and make their people suffer. That it was because of their own mistakes, and lo and behold, it was.

Thought it was interesting when I found it - was doing other stuff around Thedas, so I actually didn't get to this tomb for quite a while. Depressing lesson on the stupidity of sentient beings in general. I ended up giving the info to the Dalish in the sort of vague hope that they'd learn from it. Hmm, right - I believe the elves ended up offering a halla to the people in Red Crossing as a living memorial/peace offering after that war table mission.

Yeah. I may not agree with Sera on many things, but the elves of old were giant pricks. Shame the Emerald Knights were the ones that died off and the poncy gits were left.
