I don't know what's so hard to understand about that. Siona's sister was murdered by humans, Siona led the Dalish to Red Crossing. How is that not relevant ?

And I still need a source for that "the Dalish massacred the entire town" thing.

She led them there because her friend was porking some smoking hot human chick, not because they killed her sister. She was mad he was kaboodling with the enemy.

The Dales were the ones who started the aggravation between the two nations by being isolationist to the point where they sat idly by and watched while humans were devastated by the Second Blight for 90 years.

You mean the Dales isolated themselves from a neighbor who had conquered the rest of their neighbors, and imposed Drakon's Cult of the Maker as the religion that people would follow.

The Dales were the ones who lit the fuse of war by the massacring of the town of Red Crossing.

The entry reads that the elves defended themselves against a group of humans who tried to kill them; that doesn't excuse the murder of the human woman, but this narrative actually starts out with the murder of an elven woman by humans. I'm sorry to disappoint you with the reality of the narrative about the start of the war, but humans and elves are both at fault.

The Dales were the ones who escalated the war by invading Orlais and cutting a swath of chaos and carnage through innocent people.

Orlais declared war on the Dales, and the Dales retaliated.

And now the Dalish continue keeping relationships strained by blaming the people who didn't start any of the bad blood that occurred between them as doing so.

I'm sure the Chantry criminalizing their religion and having templars hunt them down strains the relationship quite enough.

So pray tell, where are the humans at fault? Every action the humans made was a reaction to an action the Dales made.

I suppose murdering elves doesn't count, since you seem to be ignoring all the wrong the humans did and pretending as though the elves were the only ones who committed any wrongdoing.

If you're gonna argue on this subject at least try to get your facts right. Elandrin is Siona's brother.

Funny that you keep saying that when none of the Emerald Knights knew why he was vanishing other then "seen with a woman".

Given the fact they he was called, "their brother," I don't know or care. If you aren't going to actually refute what I said, you're wasting your time by continuing to post.

arguable. Brother could be used in the sense of family relations or in general "You are my brother from another mother"

I don't see why Ferelden don't open up trade and start trusting Orlais again. Was just in the past

She saw him with her. It's really not that hard to figure out if she's giving a sermon or not off in the woods. Let's pretend we're all rational people here when we guess what secret lovers do off in the woods together. Hint: They don't sing the chant while holding hands

Pretty much. I wasn't sure how Josie's would've played out but there was no way in hell I'd go with Leliana's route.

Given that my Lavellan mage trusted his Antivan adviser, I can tell you that Josephine's path is successful.

The Darkspawn are a greater threat than anything else. I understand that there were hard feelings between the two nations, but that is no reason to literally sit by with an army and do nothing while valiant men and women die fighting an ancient evil that threatens everyone. That's just being spiteful.

And The Dales declared war by attacking Red Crossing, and then the Orlesians retaliated. Just not very well.

Overseeing peace talks is hardly "holding his hand" and you know it.

Yes, it is. Just about everyone of importance has to have their hand held by the Inquisitor at some point, and it's no different here. It's basically the option for the player to step in and say "no, you stupid ass".

Of course, that war was even on the table right after the Rift conflict/Civil war says a lot of comedic things about Gaspard.

Dark Helmet, on 12 Dec 2014 - 12:26 AM, said:

And those intentions mean jack and **** compared to what he actually did upon gaining the throne.

"I should start a war to unify the Empire."

"Actually there's an enemy out to destroy us all."

"Alright then, time to make peace with the Dog Lords, kick this Magister back to hell, and protect against Tevinter."

Gaspard's a weak and pathetic excuse of a man who believes the entire world should be a war camp of his. He has no regard for the lives of the men under his command and is willing to find any reason to start a war because he thinks that's what keeps an empire together. Fact of the matter is it won't. It will lead to its ruin.

That his attention turns from a war against weakened Ferelden towards Tevinter doesn't change the fact that he wanted to go to war with Ferelden. Or Nevarra. As he'll point blank tell you at Halamshiral. At most, it just says he's at least willing to get the best of both worlds. A good war that will unite the empire (temporarily) and the sense to defend his borders against a real threat. Though I question how much of what he decides to do is actually of his mind.

He's a shortsighted fool who can't do anything to hold his position because he's easy to read. He's more or less Orlais' version of Loghain. But Loghain is better then he is.

And none of this talk of Gaspard has anything to do with the point I made earlier, which is that saying "They sent a halla! They're pathetic!" is ignoring how Orlais routinely went "We're sorry about this, we won't do it again" and then did it anyway.

Umm, Red Crossing is something that both the the elves and human ack happened, but simply disagree on the nature of.

I will admit I am using words like butcher and such merely for the dramatics of it.

But events @ Red Crossing are both noted in "The Rise and Fall of the Dales," as told by Sarethia, hahren of the Highever alienage" and "Folklore and History, by Sister Petrine".

You may claims bias of course, so feel free to do so.

Oh I'd say they retaliated pretty well, after all one is still standing

Except we don't know how far Siona was. You're choosing to assume she was up close and personal and within earshot. Given that the codex makes no mention of such things, that all Siona had to go off of was their presence together and a gesture in the direction of the Chantry, and that Siona told them that Elandrin was being filled with "lies".... well you're just too busy applying what you see through hindsight into the matter itself.

So they send an apology Halla to Red Crossing. And I'm sure they will stop saying the humans are entirely at fault for losing the Dales. What more do you want?

A harem of elf waifus.

As history proves, after the blight ends other nations start seizing up territories from weakened nations.

But agreed. They didn't win any fans as a result of that. Just like how just like how dwarves arent sympathetic to surfaces when a blight happens the other human nations were not sympathetic towards the isolationist Dales that watched as everyone united to fight a common enemy

Neither source claims the entire town was massacred, however, which seems to be the issue. Sister Petrine and hahren Sarethia simply address that there was an attack.

And I'll happily admit that I used words for effect....wait, I already did.

The Elves on the other hand, now proved they did attack a Human town, in a foreign country, on soverign Orlais territory without any provocation.

Tada. :)

No offense, but there's no way you're serious right now. Lovers and priest don't act the same around each other. But it matters little in the end, the fact is they didn't want him to leave and go to the Maker. So they killed the one they thought was responsible. It had absolutely nothing to do with her sister.

It's not just an animal, it's a halla. And it's smarter than a horse and has its own god. Duuuh!!!

And that village had dirty peasants.

So is and does a human child. :P

You mean the Dales isolated themselves from a neighbor who had conquered the rest of their neighbors, and imposed Drakon's Cult of the Maker as the religion that people would follow.

All nations have an obligation to help each other during a Blight. They only endangered themselves by sitting it out, either by losing an ally to combat the Blight or by breaking relations, the latter being what happened.

Yeah, it's not like the Emerald Knights could've done something like, oh I don't know, accepted that they committed a crime and the punishment for it or failing that leave. Or do you think villagers could have kept up with trained soldiers who know the forest much better?

Orlais declared war on the Dales, and the Dales retaliated.

No, the Dales declated war by assaulting a village with soldiers. And after that the Dales retaliated by destroying countless other villages that did nothing except be in the way when they invaded Orlais.

I suppose murdering elves doesn't count, since you seem to be ignoring all the wrong the humans did and pretending as though the elves were the only ones who committed any wrongdoing.

I'm not ignoring what some of the humans did, and I agree that Orlais' retaliation went to far. But everything humanity as a race did was merely a reaction to what the Dales did. If the Dalish want to generalize and blame all of humanity for the brutality of a few humans during that, then the same applies to the elves of the Dales.

The halla was allowed to stay in Red Crossing, so it worked out. It was a good outcome.
