Wonder if we'll ever see this dude again. He decided to leave the temple and venture out in my outcome, would be cool to hear what him and his ilk get up to.

Ummmm, he liked my Inquisitor.

My Inquisitor, a mage, knew that disturbing sacred rites was an absolutely terrible idea, and would likely get him and his party killed.

Now, as for his vallasin...I don't think they are the same slave markings necessarily that the elven slaves wore of old. I would almost argue that they represent a symbolic enslavement to Mythal. But, then again, as another poster postulated, Abelas and his fellow Sentinels could be elite slave warriors similar to the Janissaries.

The latter, I believe. I think only the "high elves" would have had the immortality, not their servants or slaves.

Why did you do this? I'll have to venture out of the Solas Recovery Wing for this.  DX

He did mention that maybe uthenera awaits. Do non-immortal elves do the uthenera thing? Would they need to?

All the sentinels in Mythal's temple wear Mythal's vallaslin.

And I believe that the "stasis" is uthenera.

I think he said that perhaps "only uthenera" awaits?  I could be wrong, but to me that means that he'd go back to sleep and never wake up again because his reason for waking up was gone.   :(

Shh shh there there, it's just like an extension of the Solas Recovery Wing. It helps it stay on topic, and makes it easier to find the fanfics and pics that get lost in the break-neck pace of the Solas thread.

He said he's bound to Mythal's will, since what he says about the Well is that the Inquisitor would be bound to her will, even as he and the other Sentinel Elves are.  I'd say that means he's enslaved.

As for his mortality... I am uncertain.  It seems he's truly immortal, but it may be that elves achieved this by entering deep near-uthenera slumbers, up until they finally took the plunge into true, eternal sleep from which there is no waking (uthenera).

I was unsure about that. I need to do another play through once my exams are over, but didn't he mention Uthenera was a future option for him? Does that imply that he was not in fact in uthenera? But if not in uthenera, then what was the stasis called?

i assumed a "long lifespan" similar to tolkiens elf but used stasis to give himself more time

I don't think it's uthenera, as that is something that seems to be only for the highest members of the society.

I don't think he's immortal either, cause Morrigan can kill him in that final scene. Plus, if they were immortal, why the need for stasis?

I need to do some more research on uthenera, but is does a near-uthenera state exist in the lore? I assumed it was kind of on or off- you were in it to win it or you weren't. And even then sometimes elves woke up to share wisdom, right? So it wasn't necessarily eternal.

Broody?  Maybe.  I tend to think he's more grumpy.  How dare you shemlen wake him up from his nap?

According to the codex entry on Uthenera, "Elves did not age. They were not immortal, but they did not suffer from deterioration of mind or body. They suffered only from a deterioration of the spirit." Does this lack of deterioration apply only to the higher echelons of Ancient Elvhen society, or was it all Ancient Elves?
