I just wanted to say something reasonable because this post is the top post but that was all I could come up with

And more info!! I guess we can officially say that Abelas was written mostly by David Gaider 

 

 

I'm feeling so happy today!! It's difficult to get an answer from devs, but I must say that they're really informative when they do.

 

I sent another tweet praising the character's writing, it said "Kudos for the writing, so much is conveyed in so little screen time"

Well to be totally honest I am ok with Solas ( I do not hate the guy) but he cannot compete in any shape or form with His Royal Thighness - Abelas. I remember how excited I got when I met Abelas and how disappointed I was that I couldn´t romance him. Damn Bioware *shakes fist* totally wasted material there!!! To imagine to try to impress Abelas so that I could woo him....*shakes head and stares into the sunset dreamily* eerrr what was I talking about again ? Yes Abelas. As much as I could see I loved the whole package of him - voice,armor,personality and well his body too

I'm learning to draw properly, so I can't draw everything I have in mind; but I promise as soon as I'm finished with my holiday beading projects, I'll try to draw us an Abelas.

  I guess I could study his anatomy by drawing him but unfortunately I can't draw I mean really. I can't draw. Although the idea to study his anatomy by drawing  sounds interesting

At first I wasn't because I like to stick with one LI but after trespasser I think it would be awesome to start a relationship with him as inquisitor. I believe that if Abelas would get to know Inquisitor he would fell in love with her so badly  that he would stay by her side forever.

Well he is under geas is he not? It would be difficult to him to abandon his duties, he is totally devoted to Mythal. If he would have free will would it still be the same?

 

Imagine to have a gift system so you could give him gifts.... :D and the reactions he would give you based on approval level and if he would like a gift

I completely forgot the geas thing   I was just thinking that if he would be free and if he would fell in love with somebody, I believe he would be as devoted to that person than he is to his duties. 

 

Abelas was trapped in that Temple because it was his duty at that moment. Maybe Mythal, Solas or  Morrigan (depending who can control those who are bound) has given him another task but I think when he hasn't any tasks he is free. Because my Inky drank from the well and she hasn't had any duties to Mythal afterwards or at least as a player I don't know about those so I believe that those who are bound can do whatever they want when they don't have a task at hand.

 

I like that gift system! It would  also be  interesting if Abelas would have to be in the same place like in the Temple so he couldn't leave and you could give him gifts There wouldn't be a way to escape the gifts

I forgot the answer to this question. If Abelas would become free and have a free will I would love him still because he had a past and he guarded that well. It happened and it would still affect on him. I mean it must have been hard trying to protect the well knowing that eventually you will fail. I guess I also don't see that Abelas is so dedicated to Mythal that he couldn't love somebody else. I guess I think that Abelas doesn't have much choice and if he could choose he might do something different. I  believe he is devoted to his duty but then again he didn't have much choice and even if he is dedicated to his duty he could still love somebody else than Mythal. I suspect that you see him differently?

Well thats why I am thinking was it that Mythal ordered him meaning he doesn´t have a choice or he really is dedicated to Mythal and to the People meaning he hopes that one day old days come back. He just said in the temple with so much venom(seemed to me) that they endure there and it is meaningless meaning it is still geas that makes him stay there? Mythal is not so powerful but she has been present in Thedas so she could have been at the temple at some point.To the future does that mean that he HAS to help Solas(who is carrying Mythal) or he wants to help Solas? Another thought- can vallaslin from Arlathan be different? Source of geas? Or any other rituals?

 

I do believe that if he would fall in love with someone he would be totally ready to die to protect his lover. He seems that kind of guy. As to gifts- imagine he would just stare at you if you would gift him something he would not like

I believe that Abelas doesn't have a choice because he says that the one who will drink from the well will be bound to the will of Mythal like the sentinels are bound (Those are not his exact words because my memory is not that good) and later on we discover that the one who drank from the well is bound to the Mythal and Mythal can control that person. Abelas also seems to know what kind of person Mythal is because he says something like that a boon of Mythal has never been free (I don't remember his exact words). Anyway Abelas seems to know what kind of person Mythal is and I think it's pretty clear that he doesn't have a choice if Mythal decides something that he needs to do. However he might have decided to become a sentinel by free will and he might be devoted to her knowing what kind of person she is. Anyway it seems that he is sad that the new sentinels didn't see Mythal in her fullness and it seems very important to him to teach them about her but when he speaks with Inky he also doesn't praise Mythal. That makes me think that he isn't that devoted to Mythal but protecting the well is also a way to his salvation as well as the salvation of the sentinels. Maybe he is more devoted to sentinels than Mythal?

I believe that Mythal has been in contact with the sentinels. I'm not sure has she met them at the temple but there is a Eluvian in the Temple so it wouldn't be that hard for them to be in contact with her via that Eluvian or in the Fade.

I don't think Abelas wants to help Solas because he seems to recognize him at the Temple and Abelas seems to be quite angry at Solas. Even though Solas took the power of Mythal it might be that he can't control the sentinels. Mythal send her godhood to Morrigan and it might be that she now controls the sentinels. I think it would be better for Abelas because if Solas controls them then his future doesn't look that good

I believe that placing vallaslin on somebody is a ritual or at least it used be a ritual where a person become bound to the person who gave the vallaslin.
