Hm, I was wondering...the shiny, bronze-like metal the sentinel armor is made of - as well as the mosaics in Mythal's Temple - is Veil Quartz, right?

I crafted some armor for the Inquisitor using it and it had the same color.

Considering the Sentinels are from the time of Arlathan, the city built partly inside the Fade, I thought it would make sense if the ancient elves used material from the Fade to craft their armor.

I may be wrong, though. It's just a hypothesis that crossed my mind the other day.

I'm out of likes! Bah...

It makes complete sense. I remember reading a codex that said the priests in the temple were gifted with armour from their respective gods. It went something like that. It's been a while but I remember that codex. So their armour, I would say the high priest armour at least, came from Mythal, in which case there is a very high likelihood it came from the Fade. Plus, the veil was down so I suspect Abelas's armour was created during that era.

It would make perfect sense that armor would be Veil quartz and I really like the idea that it would be veil quartz. However I think it might not be veil quartz because it looks like this:

http://dragonage.wik...iki/Veil_Quartz

and iron looks like this:

http://dragonage.wik...n_(Inquisition)

But it doesn't make any sense that their armor is made iron. Why would they make their armor from iron? Unless sentinels have tinted their armor to hide its true material.

There is stormheart in Arbor Wilds so they could have made their armor from it but it looks like this:

http://dragonage.wik...wiki/Stormheart

I guess I should go and look how those materials look in the game because to me it seems that their color slightly change depending the light.

Well if Solas took one pair of clothes from Royal Thighness and he is currently wearing perhaps the only pair he has....he has to wash them at some point right? Meaning there could be totally naked Abelas somewhere right now....... :D

Abelas armor is definitely not made of iron. I made an armor from Veil quartz and even though it looked like the color in Abelas armor I think there was too strong greenish glimmer in it. I also made an armor from dragon bone and its color looked like the color in Abelas' armor but there was also a greenish glimmer in it. Then I made an armor from Volcanic Aurum and I think that could be the material from which Abelas armor is made of.

I hadn't thought about that possibility but it surely is very interesting one!

I know I'm not out of likes but the error keeps coming up every time I try to give likes.

He should have left the armor on Abelas. I have nightmares of canned tuna with a Solas face inside after seeing Solas in sentinel armor.

Hmmm volcanic arum. I suppose in Abelas's day (yeah he's old) crafting material probably flowed across the elven empire quite freely. So it's not too hard to imagine the temple having access to the best. I always knew Abelas was a high maintenance elf.

I guess it might have been that Volcanic Aurum was rarer in elven empire than these days or maybe the elves just liked it's color more :D (it's common metal when veil quartz is rare metal) Hmm. Although we must keep in mind that even though Abelas was a high priest there were higher ranking people than him. Maybe they wore veil quartz armor. But on the other hand I like the idea that Abelas is a high maintenance elf. Maybe he has his better armor somewhere which is made of veil quartz or some other metal. Gold?

I wish we did. I remember Leliana tells our Inquisitor in Trespasser that there has been something going on in a specific region of the world, and that it involved elves such as the Sentinels we met in the Temple of Mythal.

After Solas tells Abelas there are other places where his people yet linger, elvhen such as him, Abelas may have travelled to another temple, one where the Evanuris was friends with Mythal. So there's always hope.  ^_^

Yay optimism!!  ^_^

I think the region is the Tirashan Forest, it appears on the web game and they say there are strange elves there with red markings (Or something like that? I didn't play the game, I just know what I read on the boards) Bioware has also been giving him some love on their social accounts, showing fanart of him. So there's certainly hope!

I played the web game but I don't remember anything about those elves but the location which Leliana talks about is Tirashan forest. I remember it well because I get so excited of it because it could mean that Abelas went there.

I wonder does it mean something that they have showed Abelas pictures. It's too early for DA4 but new DA comic has started so could it that mean that we will see Abelas in that comic?

Apparently it's an event in the game that doesn't always show up; I found info and the screen you get about it on this thread http://forum.bioware...the-last-court/

Wow, there's a new comic coming? Maybe you're right and we'll see Abelas in it!

I don't like Bioware comics, but if Abelas is in one of them I will read it.

Yes there is a new comic series that has already started. Here is the discussion of it:

http://forum.bioware...ller-1-out-now/

It could be possible to see Abelas in that. Although I'm not sure how likely it is. Maybe in a small role? I don't know. Wishful thinking I guess :D Since they have put Abelas pictures on their facebook page I just thought that maybe we'll see him in a book or in a comic and since that comic has started I was thinking could those pictures mean that we'll be seeing him in that comic. Or will there be a new book?

I remember hearing about that comic, but I had forgotten. This one seems to be all about mages and Tevinter, so I don't know if there'll be a chance to include Abelas. But who knows; there are DA comics with far less likely... ahem events

Now that you're saying it, Abelas in a new book seems a better idea. If it's along the lines of The Masked Empire, I'm sure I'll like it. Also I don't trust Dark Horse to make a proper rendition of The Thighs, so I'd rather read a book with a picture of Abelas on one side  :D (and Celene's depiction on TME cover is wonderful)

I agree that it's quite slim change to see Abelas in that comic unless we see those characters entering the Temple of Mythal and Abelas being angry at them :D Maybe they made Abelas angry :P I was also thinking that if the events in that comic will continue after the ending of the main game there could be a slim change that those characters would pump into him but since Abelas can "die" and the writer wants to consider every playthrough so seeing Abelas in that comic is nonexistent. Well almost nonexistent and if there is a way for him to survive then a comic dealing with all that information might be too much.

I also agree that I would rather see Abelas in a book. I think it wouldn't be that far fetched if there would come out a book about ancient elves and their empire.

I would buy a book where Abelas would be one of the protagonist as soon as it would come out. It would be interesting to read how he became sentinel and how he lived his life after he had become sentinel.

Yes, please! Maybe now that Gaider left Bioware he can write books, but I'm not sure that he'd like to write things related to DA...

Btw, we learned not long ago that Gaider was mainly responsible for refining Abelas idea into what we saw in the game; do you think that his leaving will affect their plans in some way? I know he had already left DA, but maybe they won't elaborate on a character that he started? Or it could be the contrary, that they have now more freedom to develop his character if they want.

I wish Abelas had showed up in Trespasser

Me too! I wouldn't mind that one of the Eluvians led to wherever he's gone, or if he had taken refuge in the Fen'Harel lands.

Sometimes I'm surprised that people don't understand why Abelas doesn't see the Dalish as his people.

Fereldan and Orlesian people are both human, but there is no sense of kinship between them. And Tevinter has nothing but disdain towards southerners.

I do understand why he does and I've explained it other times; he doesn't sees Dalish as his people much as an Ancient Greek wouldn't see me (Spanish) as his people, even if much of my culture stems from his. Or as I wouldn't see people living here in a thousand years as my people, because their customs, way of living and language would be wildly different.

Maybe what many people have difficulty understanding is the lack of empathy towards the Dalish situation. If I left my house after thousands of years and found the people of my country enslaved to another one, I'd be pissed off and help in any way I could. Bioware chose to give the ancient elves a sense of self-containment and disdain towards the modern world (much as Tolkien's elves) and I respect that choice, I like it in fact. But I understand that other people would like that once you meet the famed elves of Arlathan they'd be more collaborative, specially if you're playing as a Dalish.

I really doubt that Gaider will be writing more DA books unless he comes back.

It's hard to say does Gaider's leaving affect on Abelas. I could imagine that since he isn't writing him anymore, it's less likely that somebody will continue writing him if I compare this to the situation where he would have continued writing DA. Maybe it would be more likely that somebody would continue writing him now that he has left the company completely. However I think it depends quite a lot is there somebody who wants to bring Abelas back and does it make sense that he will come back.

Actually it quite often surprises me when the elves don't support each other. Dalish in general don't like city elves for example. When I think about the situation more I realize that they are not one single group of people who think alike. When I saw Abelas for the first time my reaction was surprise but then thought about it more and I realized that of course Dalish are not his people. His people are most likely the sentinels at the Temple and he differs from Dalish even more than Dalish and city elves differ from each other. I think he also have a lot more reasons to not think that Dalish are his people than Dalish and city elves have. I'm not sure what it is with the elves that makes me think that they should support each other. I guess I think that they should help each other because they all are suppressed so they can relate to each other and when they do that they would like to build something together.

Jumping in for a second because this was very well said... One thing I think that gets overlooked time and time again is the fact that I think it's apparent by what Abelas says that he has had contact with the Dalish before and it doesn't sound like it was a happy meeting. Morrigan says that many people have ventured into the Arbor Wilds but never return. I am going to assume some have been Dalish for argument's sake. I suspect that the Dalish have claimed kinship with Abelas over the centuries without really bothering to understand what that means.

I can see this playing out for Abelas. Maybe on the first meeting with the Dalish he is cordial and explains they are different peoples seperated by time and circumstance. But some Dalish insist they are the same and go so far as to claiming kinship based on the fact they are both elves. Which is kind of funny because the Dalish do not consider the city elf to be their people. It's a hierarchy of snobbery in some ways. But not in Abelas's case. Why? Because he is trying to protect the well and the ignorant from the well. He could explain why the temple is dangerous, why the well is dangerous but if you are faced with a group of arrogant people who are too prideful to admit they know nothing of their past, what is the point? I can also see some of the Dalish trying to take the well because they believe it is their ancestral right. I can see them not acknowledging Abelas as one of them once he tells them no and refuses to offer up answers. It's really a screwed up situation and I understand why Abelas gives the cold reception. I suspect he always offers people a chance to just leave and never return unless they come in with weapons drawn and start fighting. We do not know what Abelas has witnessed through the centuries and it's obvious people have tried to take the well by force. He is simply performing his duty to the best of his ability and trying to keep people safe and what is left of his world intact.
