I actually found a blond elf guy wearing the Sentinel armor at Skyhold! I really have no idea WHY he's wearing it, since he's clearly not an actual Sentinel (no tattoos on his face, so city elf, and is not tall). I figure he stole it off a dead Sentinel when we all went to the Temple to throw-down, but how can he fit into it if he's a modern elfy guy? *shrugs* (Can't think of everything, I guess.)

 

That armor is redick, though. Everyone who wears it LOOKS INCREDIBLE. 

 

So, why does HE get to wear it, this no-name NPC, at not moi? I am L'INQUISITEUR. That really doesn't make any sense, Bioware.

Honestly, I would love a arms and armor dlc for Inquisition. Something that would add a bunch of new schematics for armor and weapons.

And have them available to all races. Plus Abelas will model them lol

I'm playing LotRO these days because I just can't play this game because of the broken male elf animations.  I'm really tired of buying unfinished/broken EA games only to have to put them away instead of playing them.    In any case, the elves in LotRO are so melancholy, too.  I'M TIRED OF SAD ELVES!!!  My dude elf Warden is a smart ass, just like my dude Lavellan  (I play on the RP server), because I'm sick of sad elves!

 

Please, BioWare, let Abelas be happy!  Let elves be happy!  At least for a little while!

Had to sneak out of the speeding Solas recovery wing to add my support to Abelas.  I'm not sure whether I'm more fascinated by our sneaky "I'm just your average apostate hobo" (we see what you did there Weekes) or by our superior but oh so sad ancient Sentinel. 

 

I do hope Bioware brings Abelas back, he would make a fascinating companion and he certainly has reason to join a PC who is trying to fix or change the world.  And he is good looking, although as a potential LI he could have more baggage than we might want to deal with (several thousand years worth).

 

My personal take on his service to Mythal is that he was much more a devoted priest than a slave.  Yes, he wears vallaslin but perhaps that was part of entering Mythal's priesthood and not forced upon him.  He certainly seems far more accustomed to command than service and the codex entry has more the feeling of true love and reverence for Mythal than forced service.  Perhaps that is even why there are so many variations on most of the vallaslin - one may denote slavery and others may declare willing servitude of varying degrees.  Fen'Harel may have blinded himself to the distinction in his rebellion, or perhaps willing servitude was so rare (Mythal seems to have the greatest variety of vallaslin, some gods only have one or two) that he didn't wish to confuse Lavellan explaining it.  Food for thought.

I picture Abelas and the Sentinels being the Ottoman Janissary or Egyptian Mamluk style of slave-soldiers, but with some holy warrior thrown in.

I like the idea about the different variation designating what type of slave.

@ Caddius - I read your theory a few pages back and it would also make good sense in this context.  It certainly isn't unheard of for a slave/ conscripted servant to develop a fanatical devotion to their master.  Not quite the vibe I got from Abelas but I think your theory is sound.  Either way both my Lavellan Inquisitors want to speak with him, Elinan because he has ANSWERS she needs to deal with the geas and Adahsulahn because she feels bad for him and she always brings home strays (yup she's so sweet she almost gives me cavities).

 

I'm pretty sure I won't kill Abelas in any of my playthroughs, just like I always brokered peace between the elves and the werewolves in DAO.  Some things I just can't do.

The thing that makes me think Abelas was never any kind of slave to Mythal is because Mythal and Fen'harel have always been really good friends, and how would he be friends with her if she had enslaved anyone? Fen'harel tricked the other Elven gods into sealing themselves away in the Fade/Beyond because they all had slaves, which he was super opposed to (although, he might have disliked them all for other reasons, as well).

 

I can't see Solas/Fen'harel being all buddy-buddy with Mythal if she chose to enslave any elves. Abelas seems more like a very devoted priest than a slave. All of the Sentinels seem that way, so their vallaslin must have the same or similar meaning to the reason the Dalish wear theirs, strictly for devotion to their chosen god. It must have been that, as time went on, vallaslin in ancient Arlathan ended up being used to brand slaves, but were originally used to indicate a sort of priesthood/servitude to a god.

I also have heavy disagreement that a Sentinel who literally killed and survived many red templars and previous trespassers will be really dead from 1 single knife. It may knocked him out, but I believe if there is enough feed back on the NPC it can make a come back.

Cullen was a very minor character, and yet the fandom made bioware even to recognize the fandom as "Cullenites" and they replied well on their love for their character. 

 

I do have hope on this one, and this one has potential chance to bring storyline in especially after how the ending of DAI was - Abelas does have connection of the old what the dread wolf would like to restore partially. 

And also hope Bioware not plans to trash an amazing character design with amazing voice actor with so much chance behind him just by one clap. Or at least I hope some developers will make notice that fandom actually aching for more with this specific character.

I love this video! A lot of Solasmancers secretly (or not-so-secretly) fantasize about this happening after being dumped and abandoned by bald egg-man.  I know I do, anyway.

LOL, not sure Elinan would work so well with Abelas - there would be fireworks.  I think she is better off with Solas (absent or not) - I have a fanfic in mind for that and it does include Abelas.

 

I think I will make a no romance Inquisitor for Abelas - just in case....

I still think there are enough hints to bioware that the fans "demand" more of the char even if not as a LI but as a possible companion for sure!

I love the video! I have mixed feelings about him coming back because of course I want to see him and I want him to be LI in next game but on the other hand I want characters to stay dead if you kill them. But then again he isn't a normal character either. I haven't seen the scene where you can kill him but if you just stab him then it would be likely that he really isn't dead.
