I love the video! I have mixed feelings about him coming back because of course I want to see him and I want him to be LI in next game but on the other hand I want characters to stay dead if you kill them. But then again he isn't a normal character either. I haven't seen the scene where you can kill him but if you just stab him then it would be likely that he really isn't dead.

I dont mind revived characters as long it is explained on a reasonable way.

Mythal could favor him and before the dread wolf appears and do the thing, she could return to offer him a last chance having plans for him. A lot more reasonable then the way Leliana was revived or Anders for example.

There are many very reasonable ways to revive him and keep it reasonable actually, for his knowledge and what all he carries. He could be all himself reason for a whole dcl or a storyline.

And it could effect on his came back as well was he killed and the Well "was robbed from his grasp" or he was agreeing on the Inquisitor and let them have it. That would be a nice change - you can recruit in both case but his reaction and a bit his sight and view would differ which can be softened during the time. I personally would love that!

Ok I got pretty excited about the VA reveal!!One reason being that for a moment I thought I heard Welsh accents everywhere although Abelas' is milder.

Also I can see why some people might ship him with Lavellan, but I dunno the ship doesn't really do it for me.Especially those where Lavellan was previously with Solas. Maybe it's because I'm secretly hoping that he'll be back in DA4 and if he's romanceable then I won't be able to ship him with anyone else than the DA4 protagonist.

Hush. Hush with your logic.  He is too wonderful to stay dead.

In all seriousness, if you could BEHEAD Leliana and she showed up as a major character in this game I don't think BW has any qualms bringing back dead characters.  I would accept any loose, hand-wavey reason to bring Abelas back.

I like the pairing.  Even if she was with Solas.  The writing that I have seen with him/her seems to be a bit better though so that may be why(some of the Solavellan writing is terrible but there is more of it).  The Lavellan's have about 1000x more agency in them and they are all set AFTER solas leaves(or Solas/Lavellan were never together).  Logic dictates that she would grow as a person - I would at least hope she does.  So you have these two people trying to figure themselves out and they are sharing that together. It's nice.  I don't NEED/WANT that as canon.  I just like it as an AU thing.

I hope he comes back. I think he would be a fascinating character.  He doesn't come from a place of privilege like Solas does, so his perspective on modern day elves would be interesting.  I feel like he'd be a bit like Sten/Shale and more characters like Sten/Shale is a good thing.

I think the way Flemeth was revived was well made so I guess if something similar would happen to Abelas then I wouldn't have any problems with him. Is he different than other elves in Mythal's temple? You see that other elves are dying and he says that many elves have died when protecting the temple. If he is different then it's possible that he really doesn't die and he can be revived like Flemeth.

I agree. He is too lovely to stay dead. But I still want that there is a good explanation why he is alive but I think it's possible to find a reasonable reason for him to not die for good and even if there wouldn't be a good  explanation for him to be alive I wouldn't mind that much. In general I just want that my decisions matter like you kill somebody then she/he is dead. Of course Flemeth is different because there is a reason why she didn't die for good.

Well I personally love the idea to have him come back for DA4 as worked out companion the most. It would give us more chance to get to know more of him and bioware could give him more tones as well then get him back in a dcl and let it be over.

Dragon Age dcls not last that long I found all of them pretty short (especially DAO ones) so I would love to give him more depth and background we could learn and as I suspect Solas will go rabid to restore the People now with more power it could be a nice main plot base for a DA4 where Abelas could assist our future character.

About he seeing his men dying - it could be that the duty he was bonded to as their leader he will be the last to really die so that stabbing option with Morrigan could not really kill him since other sentinels were still alive. Actually many ways to talk it out from death and I would be really disappointed that an ancient sentinel who guarded this temple for ages, centuries long and survived all now die on one single damn blade, one stab. It is just out of sense to me.

I read somewhere, but totally forget where, that he was born during the late Arlathan Empire days, so that is something we could estimate, according to the timeline of Thedas history.

Arlathan fell  probably when the first Tevinter Archon came into power around 2,035 years ago from the current DA:I date (9:41 Dragon). So, Abelas had already been born by that time, so his age would be about 2,000 years old, but not quite 3,000 years old.

Not sure why the Archons' assumption of power would be the date to look for here; there's nothing that specifically connects that event with Arlathan's fall AFAIK. Darinius is mostly known for his war against Qarinus and his political prowess, not for elven wars.

The DA Wiki sources a comment to the DA:O Official Game Guide (CE) that asserts Arlathan and Tevinter went to war for the last time in 220 TE, or somewhere around -975 Ancient. Even if we accept that the traditional story about how Arlathan fell due to outside aggression might be flawed, the timing is unlikely to be wrong.

A lot of the wiki articles haven't been updated with the new information Abelas revealed. He says for a fact that the elves had already destroyed themselves by the time Tevinter came along and all they did was pick apart a corpse. (paraphrasing his words) Solas also says Tevinter was built on the bones of his people, they were already gone.

I want to see him in next game too. It would be nice to see him in a small role in a dlc as well but I would really like to see him as a companion with the next protagonist. And it would also be nice that he would be LI   He seems to be very serious and not like other LIs before so I think he would have good changes to be a LI.

Now that we are talking about his possible death which isn't necassarily final. Could it be possible that Morrigan had something in her dagger that made him collapse and fall asleep or stun him for a time? Because I believe that she has special artifacts, poisons and potions or whatever with her in that temple or she could use some spell to stun him. She wants to restore the old elven artifacts so it might be that she really doesn't want to kill him although we have seen that she will do whatever she needs to do to get what she wants. But she is older now and she might respect Abelas and what he is so that she really doesn't kill him. There is also other possibility that might explain that he didn't actually die. Morrigan stabs him while he is trying to destroy the well so that can cause him to collapse and fall asleep. Because she definitely disrupted his spell or whatever he was doing.

Reread the post:

Even if we accept that the traditional story about how Arlathan fell due to outside aggression might be flawed, the timing is unlikely to be wrong.

Or, more specifically, the timing of the Imperium's conquest of whatever was left. Again, even if we accept the story that Arlathan tore itself apart from the inside and was drastically weakened when Tevinter came to take it over, that still leaves, y'know, Tevinter coming to take it over, which is unlikely to have been misdated. You'd think the Vints would know if their histories were off by two hundred years. The only way that that date could plausibly change is an outright retcon.

Either way, the Game Guide date, right or retcon, is far more secure than a random guess of "uh, 1 TE!" which has absolutely nothing backing it up.

Well for the moment we only can hope, and see will it have outcome and keep the flame burning so it would get more recognition.

I personally really lost in the dragon age timeline so cant even guess his age, but I am fine that he is really old :D

I would shake this thread up with some visual works, but 80% of my arts being thrown into the Solas thread -

Abelas may be thousands of years old but he may have lived just a fraction of those lives because he was in stasis.

EDIT: I guess I was just trying to say that he has two ages. The actual years he has been alive and the years which he has actually lived.

So what kind of LI would Abelas be or what kind of LI would you like him to be?

I guess what I think and what I want are the same. I think he would be quite distant, serious and also quite cold. So he would propably not hold your hand in publicly or show affection to you when other people are around. He would be also very loyal and he would love your PC deeply. Of course it would take a lot of time before he could love you because he propably don't trust people but once he has fell in love with you then he would be yours forever

Yeah I would think you would really have to earn his affection. Maybe help him understand there is more to life then vigilance and sacrifice.

I would also hope he wasn't race gated like Solas. I love my human girls and elf boys too much.

I haven't thought about this at all. I haven't thought about him coming off incredibly distant and cold and being really rude at first. I haven't thought of a friendship blooming out of mutual respect for each other's skills and honor and loyalty.  I haven't thought about the first time he tells the PC that he respects them and calls them friend - the blank honesty flooring the PC.   I haven't thought about the first time they admit that they love eachother that Abelas realizes for the first time in thousands of years he's truly happy/content because the devotion and love he used to pour into his service is now for another and not only that, it's reflected back and only for him. Nope. Haven't thought about it all...

It's probably because by the time they're making screen caps of their Inquisitor Abelas, they're beyond the point where they can show the sliders. You have to have the PC version and send out your save files in order to share them with other PC players, or something like that. I'm not really sure how it works because I don't have the PC version. Until we get the "Mirror of Transfiguration," or the like in this game, sliders are pretty much impossible to show unless you have video-recorded the time you spent in the CC.
