If you want the exact words he says "Malas amelin na halam, Abelas."
I meant the translation. Sorry I was a little bit unclear.

Doesn't Solas say near the beginning when you talk with him that they "walked the world as gods" or words to that effect. They appeared as gods to lesser beings because of the capacity for magic and doing awesome things. If the Fade was a separate entity then, it would seem that the anchor is some remnant of what they used to physically walk there and this is why Abelas recognises the signature magic. The orb given to Corypheus and the anchor seem to have been a set used to open rifts and walk through them. The orb can only open the rift but the anchor is needed to walk in the Fade safely. However, the anchor is capable of opening a rift by itself but only temporarily and is something that the Inquisitor cannot do at will; only when under extreme duress (as in "oh my god I'm about to die".)
The exchanges between Solas and an elven Inquisitor and Abelas with them both are very revealing. When you ask Solas to appeal to Abelas, he questions why you would think that he should call on an old blood tie to persuade him. When you appeal to Abelas directly, he rejects your premise that you have any link to him (even an old blood one - yet apparently it is there since Kieran can sense the old blood in you). Looking back on it, Solas is clearly reluctant to make a direct appeal to Abelas, possibly because of the danger that Abelas may reveal too much about Solas.
Then later on as we descend into the Well of Sorrows, Solas comments that Mythal still ensures (something like that). May be it is just referring to the magic of her Temple but I wonder if that was the moment he realised that she may be alive somewhere. I note that in one of his conversations with you about places he has visited in the Fade, one of them is Flemeth's hut.
When Abelas acknowledges Solas as elvhen, it is clear that there is something more than a blood tie between them. Solas is of the People in a way that Lavellan is not. The fact that Solas has no vallaslin may be significant to Abelas but of course neither reveal what that might be. Whereas the Dalish regard the lack of vallaslin as indicating someone who is not a true elf, in the case of the ancient elves it probably reveals someone as being more than just an elf, certainly more than a servant of one of the ancient gods, even if not actually a god themselves.
Zathrian's long life through being tied to a spirit may give some clue as to what lay behind the gods' immortality. Mythal lost her mortal body but lived on through her spirit form, until she encountered a willing host. I wonder if the original Mythal had hair? All the ancient elves we have encountered have been bald and the cave pictures seem to bear this out as well. In which case, if modern elves descended from them, when did they acquire hair?

I collected together some of the translations I found. People had put a great deal of effort into them. I'm not 100% Solas says something other than what he tells the group aloud. I think what made me suspicious was the fact he felt he needed to explain what he said when no one asked. Like a guilty child LOL.
"My prideful writing, My/The God's blood, is not your end, Abelas" and the blood writing of course refers to the vallaslin
also just to keep things simple i refer to the elven pantheon as "the gods" but of course they may have just been nobles, or had extreme powers, or whatever.
“Your story does not end here, it’s within you, Abelas.” <------------ my favorite

Just an impression but I think perhaps the baldness is something to do with those who served the gods. Maybe they were required to shave their heads to set them apart from the common populace. Like Tibetan monks perhaps? Or perhaps uthenera causes them to lose their hair, though that would not explain why the temple walls are covered with bald elves unless that was just artistic license.
One other thing I noticed was when Solas tells Abelas there is a place for him if he seeks it. To me, that says that the ancient elvhen are holed up somewhere else and Solas was dropping a very big hint. Just a thought.

I thought that Solas was reluctant to appeal to Abelas because he was guilty of sealing the gods away which caused the ancient elves to loose their culture or at least it was one part of it.
The baldness is interesting thing. Because all the ancient elves so far has been men so it's hard to say were women also bald. But I think it would make sense that they were. Could it be that when elves became mortal their hair started to grow? I think it's also unclear how it happened. I mean how they become mortal. I just remember that human came and then elves become mortal but was that the real reason? Because earlier it was believed that the people from Tevinter came and conquered Arlathan but it was destroyed before that. It may be that they become mortal before they met humans.
Somewhere in the Solas thread there is a tweet from Patrick Weekes saying Solas uses a spell to stay bald. Now, Weekes could have been teasing us, so I take it with a grain of salt, but perhaps it was considered fashionable to be bald in Arlathan. Mostly I think it is an artistic choice by the Bioware artists because it is harder to make a judgment on age when the person involved is bald.
...I'm pretty sure I turned from red to purple with that gif.

Such lovely art! ![]()
As I posted in the Solas thread,I always took the baldness to be a result of Uthenera, even though I believe that the real reason is probably the fact that the engine doesn't handle intricate and long hair that well, so they decided to have the ancient elves bald than give them more a "modern" hairstyle that they'll probably share with other npcs including the inquisitor.Somewhere in the Solas thread there is a tweet from Patrick Weekes saying Solas uses a spell to stay bald. I love that gif!!!
Magic to keep himself bald?? lmao has to be a joke. I like writers who don't take themselves too seriously.
You know if Abelas was included in the party as a romance option I suspect his popularity would exceed most LI's from the entire series. He's hot BW! Make it happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please! I beg you!!! Give us the hot elf to make up for the heartbreak of Solas. ![]()
Who wrote Abelas?

Shaving their heads and casting a NoGrow! spell could be part of preparing for Uthenera. The last thing you'd want is waking up after a few hundred years is Rapunzel hair and Lady Deathstrike nails.
But think of the potential of the hairy weapon! I have visions of ancient elves defeating their enemies with their hair now :/

Who wrote Abelas?
I don't know about that,he's definitely attractive(The part of his face not hidden under the hood) but not conventionally so (Which is a good thing mind you),I'd like him to be a companion in DA4 or a inquisition related DLC,because he's an extremely interesting character with great potential.Hell,I wanted to meet an immortal ancient elf ever since origins,Inquisition was a treat for me and other's who wanted the same.
As for who wrote him...That's a good question!Who would name their character "Sorrow",I wonder?
My theory about baldness: In ancient times baldness was in fashion among servants and that is why Abelas and other sentinels are bald. They have spells to keep themselves that way because they want to be fashionable. Solas isn't a servant so most likely baldness wasn't fashionable among those kind of people. So when Solas woke up he thought that he would blend in if he would be bald. So he cast a baldness spell on to himself but the spell was too powerfull which means that he will be bald for years and of course he made a mistake when he thought that baldness was still in fashion.

I've seen that tweet. From what I gather, Weekes didn't necessarily say that Solas uses a spell. When asked why Solas was bald, Weekes said he couldn't really see Solas shaving his scalp, so he's probably either naturally bald or just uses his magic to say "no hair now." In other words, Shrug of God.
As for artistic reason, in the concept art you can see that the devs tried many hairstyles for Solas, but I think I saw one of them say somewhere that they felt none of the hairstyles connotated "ageless wisdom" the way a nice bald cranium did.
EDIT: LOL For Abelas, it seems the fandom has run away with that beautiful white braid. If BioWare brings him back and we ever see what's under that hood, they'll have no choice but to give him the hair style from numerous fanarts on this page if they don't want a riot. XD
It's my personal theory that the Sentinels of Mythal don't have hair, because Mythal made them shave it off and make wigs for all of her various bodies, including making those kickass dragon-wing hair loopies. (She caught a whiff of the Blight from Andruil, which leads to hair loss. *nods solemnly*) Even a thousand years after, they still put the hair down the sacrificial chute. Flemythal keeps an extra Witch of the Wilds there to collect it and make the wigs.

Definitely yeah, the pressure is huge now!
But even if he has another hairstyle, I just want him to comeback in future games. I'm not sure there will be a reason for him to do so, but it'll be great to have him as companion at some point. Or release a book about him and the temple of Mythal? I don't know, I just need more character development, it seems he could be an awesome char, if given the chance to be developed.

Every one needs more Abelas. If he doesn't come back I will cry. I actually like him more than Solas now probably because there was no ripping out heart and stomping all over it. by 0-xcheekymonkeyx-0
