  I want Abelas for a different PC, if it's going to be long-term.  I'm actually more interested in his story.  What happens when he leaves the Temple?  Does he end up with the Inquisition because they're the best game in town or does he strike out on his own to do...something?  How does he decide what to do with himself, now that the factory's shut down and he's lost his home?

Personally, I am extremely partial to Ameridan.  He's got the same silver fox thing going on that Orsino did, and considerably better judgment 

 

Do you guys mind if we talk about Ameridan here?  I'll keep anything spoiler-y under tags.  I poked my head into the thread about him, but it's full of scary people

I will admit to spending an inordinate amount of that conversation staring at his nose trying to decide if it was the same. The lines make it really heard to tell. Fangirl away!

Go for it! I know exactly what you mean. Last time I was on that thread there was an argument ensuing so that was it for me. What is it that you like about him? I'm curious

 

I love pretty much everything about his story, but especially how it relates to Lavellan's.  Tags for spoilers and headcanon rambles:

So my Lavellan kind of gave up on the Orlesians.  She hated everyone she met at Halamshiral.  It made her a very capable and ruthless player of the Game, because she pretty much didn't care about using the Orlesians to get what she needed for the Inquisition.  But Ameridan's friendship with Drakon, and his genuine efforts at peace between the Dales and Orlais, snapped her out of that mindset.  I think she realized that just because an effort at peace failed, doesn't mean it was a bad idea in the first place.  My Lavellan's always been a little uncomfortable in the spotlight, and Ameridan's story inspires her to try to live up to his example.

 

It's also very lonely at the top, and for just a few minutes, she got to talk to someone who really understood what it was like to be Inquisitor.

I always love your insight into the characters. It gives me something to think about and has helped with my own writing.

 

After the dlc I realized it would be nice to have an equal for my Lavellan. Someone who has been a leader and understands the burdens of it. I love some of the companions like Cole for instance, but he will never understand what she goes through and has been through while serving as Inquisitor. Ameridan has accepted his fate and his role with grace and I love that about him. He is even kind enough to offer some empathy to Lavellan. That is a class act all around. Above everything he asks about the love of his life and his friends. It made me wish that once in a while we would have a companion or LI that is a little be more selfless. 

 

Okay this probably won't be liked but I'm going to say it. Solas, to me, is a selfish little ******. Oh I still like him but I also hate him. In my opinion, Lavellan was another one of his grand **** ups. Plus, I think it was incredibly disrespectful to not at least offer up the fact he is an ancient elf. He didn't have to go all Fen'Harel and sure there would be questions but again... he wouldn't have to go all Fen'Harel. My point is the fact he will continue to live long after Lavellan is dead. He might have at least given her the option to consider the ramifications of getting involved with him. It's the fact he holds so much from her and in my opinion that is not love. Love is allowing the person you care about to make up their own damn mind. Okay rant over

I do have to wonder how much going after Hakkon was Ameridan's idea, and how much of it was Drakon's idea.  One way or another, it had to be done.  But if it was Drakon's idea, can you imagine how awful he must feel?  I got a very genuine vibe of friendship between them; from Ameridan's memories and the way he talks about the Emperor, they seemed to consider each other as equals.  

 

As for Solas, I still love the egghead, though I also want to punch his face in sometimes.  Yes, he's selfish.  Yes, he can be very inconsiderate.  But IMO the immortality thing is the least of the problems between him and Lavellan, and if I were in his shoes, I'm not sure I could have been any more courageous when it came to telling her the truth.  So I'm willing to cut him a fair amount of slack.  Plus he's cute

Awww thanks peeps It's just nice to know I haven't made anyone angry or annoyed the crap out of them. I was convinced I had. 

 

No, you're not driving anyone mad, I wonder what made you think that. Please keep on posting anything Abelas-related things you wish. Your place in this thread is as legitimate as the next poster, don't let anyone drive you out of a thread you enjoy.

In a way, Abelas and Solas are polar opposites in how your Inquisitors get to know them. With Solas everything is shaded and obscured. You know his personality but nothing about his past. In the end he withdraws without explanation and the PC is left entirely in the dark, both as to who he is and why he left.

Abelas, on the other hand, is an open book as far as why he's there, what he hopes to accomplish, and from whence he came (the general outlines if not the details of his childhood and adolescence). The Inquisitor gets only a tantalizing glimpse of his personality but you're most certainly given appreciation for his sense of duty and the depth of feeling he has. He's straightforward, a refreshing change from Solas and the Game.

He's rather beautiful!I dunno something about his face is mesmerising...And honestly I'm not surprised that he's bald under that hood, but so is my quizie when she wears that cowl.I hope that of he ever comes back in a hoodless armour he'll have artemorte's braid.
