Solas and Abelas, but I would be smashing them together saying "NOW KISS" instead of separating them.  B)

Uhm... To be more on topic... I saw this on Tumblr and laughed, because I have an awful sense of humor.

'Oh, yeah! I love the dragon age elves! Zevran, Merrill, Solas, and [looks at smudged writing on hand] apple ass'

WHY IS FENRIS NOT ON THAT LIST.

I'm judging you so hard right now.

Sorry for causing drama tonight. Not my intention. Hopefully it is over.

On that site you posted I saw this and I love it. It's beautiful.

Legbamel where is part 4?

Was going to ask some questions but I'll leave it for another day. Night all. <3

No it really isn't in my opinion. Do you see me going on to the Solas thread saying it? No and for this very reason. I respect people's opinions on the matter. This is just my opinion. I don't think I'm right and I don't think one explanation fits all. Again, Abelas is not the only ancient elf. Personally, I find it odd more people aren't on about the ancient elf from TME, Felasson (I know I did not spell it correctly).

And that was my opinion. You were generalizing a great deal about the Solas fandom, and it's an opinion I've heard before- that people just like the idea of banging a god. Which of course begs the question that some of us liked him before we knew he was that.

The reason I really love Abelas and want to see him again in any context, including a non romantic one is because he reminds me more than any elf in the DA universe of Tolkien's elves. The sorrow, the constant in a changing world, clinging on to the past while the world goes to hell etc. I eat that stuff for breakfast. Until Solas came along I had little interest in DA elven history. That is why I initial loved Solas to death. He bridged the gap for me and brought the lore to life. But I am starting to understand where Giton is coming from with no romance for the ancient elves. For me, what they potentially represent is a thing that is almost sacred to me. I do believe the romance with Solas ruined his character for me not for anyone else. That's for them to decide.

I like Abelas too, as he's presented in the game. He's badass. Not so much what fandom has made of him since then.

Please tell me how one pixel man is better more special than another pixel man.

Not the point at all.

Insufficiently elfy? Or maybe he counts as a porcupine instead of an elf.

Sorry.  I love Fenris, but he will forever be relegated to the role of grumpy alcoholic porcupine BFF for me  :D

Reading actual statements to that effect is not generalizing. As I said, I don't think one explanation fits all. The reasons you like him are different from say person A, B and C but it does not change the fact that I do indeed see the I want to bang a god statements. I've heard them in videos, seen them on the forum and on and on. My opinion is that I noticed an uptake in Solas love after people had played through the game. Maybe it's all a coincidence. Maybe it's because his bald head really is a solar panel for a sex machine. I no care any more.

So you liked him before you knew he was a god? Okay. I am very happy for you. I liked Abelas the moment I laid eyes on his thighs. Am I ashamed? No. Do I have fantasies of him naked? Yes. Him naked with Zevran and Fenris? Yes. Am I ashamed? No. LoL. Does it change my opinion of Solas? No.

Do I actually have a non shallow love for Abelas? Yes and it has nothing to do with the fact he is ancient. He could have been the poorest, dirtiest city elf but if the personality had been the same I would have loved him too for those reasons.

There are some wonderful stories featuring Abelas out there to be found. I have the privaledge of being able to read the ones written by the lovely people on the forum and others who do not publicly share them. We all have different ideas about how we see our favorite characters. Each to their own.

Really you want an argument I think... sorry this is a lip gloss loving zone only.

The appeal of Solas for some of us is not that he's an ancient god, and even if it were then it's no different than the appeal of an ancient elf who turned up in a lost temple. And at least there's actual romantic development with Solas whereas there is none for Abelas so it's a case of pure fantasy.

I think these pixel romances aren't anything but fantasies...really. Regardless of how long they appear or developed they are on screen...

So I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

I DIDN'T MAKE IT, I FOUND IT ON TUMBLR.

Also, varricschesthair I love you, you beautiful soul, you. <3

I don't want to stroke the hive, necessarily, but it's a bit rude to come into a thread dedicated to a character and filled with people who love to write, draw, create art about them, and state you dislike what the fandom has done to him. We've all put a great deal of time and effort into our creations, and while they may not be to their taste, that effort should at least be respected.

You did say "most."

The melancholy thing, I get that. Very Tolkien elfy. Beyond that there's not much personality to speak of and the fandom super-adds a lot of stuff which may or may not be true to the actual character. Which is fine, it's what fandom does, though the romantic stuff kind of ruins Abelas for me. But, to each her own as you say.

You can create whatever you want, and if it's not to someone's taste then that's simply a matter of personal preference and no harm or foul to anyone else.

I'm not entirely sure to understand what's the problem about people enjoying and fantasizing about a character, no matter how much ingame screen time said character has. Is there a secret contest of who's more entitled to fantasize, or anything else of that sort that still does sound petty to me, that I'm unaware of? Do we really have to make this a competition?

I totally, unabashedly wanted to bang Solas HARDER after the whole god thing came out. Hell to the yes! I want to bang a God.

But he has since fallen behind the Falon'din, Dirthamen, Andruil trifecta as well the beautious Corypheus/Architect sandwich on the list of things to bang. So. I aim high. Or something.

The shade is strong in this thead.

And pathetic too. Especially when some have nothing better to respond with than gifs. (Not referring to you.)

Anyway, what Addai said about Abelas isn't wrong... I was told time and time again that people liked Abelas because he was "mysterious", and when I challenged that by saying that this basically means they knew nothing about him and that this made it easier for them to run off with their imagination, hence the appeal, people agreed. Strongly in fact. The only difference now is that someone is stating why they don't like Abelas or understand the appeal while using that argument.

I'm a roleplayer. Vague characters, mainly player characters like the Inquisitor is a godsend because I get to have my fun writing a story for them, rather than someone doing it for me. I understand the appeal of vagueness. Or "mystery", lol, whatever you want to call it. Abelas has that.

Just because someone doesn't like that, doesn't mean it's suddenly not true when it suits your defense squad of your imaginary husbando. Cool the ****.

This is an open forum, and people tend to like discussing things.

If conversation was always just about what you liked, it'd be an endless boring uninteresting circle jerk of smiley faces, hearts, and pics, and hardly anything to discuss, especially this far in. It's funny to see all the highschool clique mindset over someone showing a little dislike. It's not like Addai was trolling.

This is the same thing the Solas thread complained about before, when the Abelas fans were expressing dislike of certain things with Solas and his fanbase.

This is the same thing the Solas thread complained about before, when the Abelas fans were expressing dislike of certain things with Solas and his fanbase.

This was my response:

"I don't think this is really fair.

Solas gets a lot of people's fantasies projected onto him as well. So much so, that it often derails conversation or flattens the character. For example, not all the time, but enough to be noticeable, the untoward aspects of Solas's character get filed down to fit a very specific narrative. And at times, because of how emotional the romance is, that conversation overshadows others."

That right there is my big problem with a lot of the thread discourse. My point, and my response, was that a lot of other threads do this, too. So it's not just Abelas as hot elf waifu. (But now I want a pillow).

I like marginal characters. But that is my preference.

Also, I get peeved when the conversation is all romance all the time. Or don't say bad things. You can dislike Babelas, ok. But there is a lot to dislike about the discourse in the other character threads. Or at least recognize that fact. Yes, critique the character! Do that! Not everything is rainbows.

I wrote a whole angry argument and deleted it. I'm going to find my inner lip gloss. Look, say what you want. Call me wrong all day long. I get it. Insult me if you must but really when it comes down to it Abelas is hotter than Solas.     Pissing match over.

I have no issues with people disliking the character. I have issues with people coming in and saying to a thread of fandom creators that they don't like what they're doing. There are many, many more tactful ways to phrase it.

The only thing I will argue now is that Kestrel is right and Giton always makes good points. I don't care that people want to eff a god. Go for it! It's the fact that very few will admit it as a reason. Kudos to Giton for saying it.

But what I will get peeved about is when someone basically comes in and messes with my fellow artists, writers etc... That's not cool.

Yes, there were more tactful ways, but I do think such criticism is valid. It is a touchy subject, but I just criticized how Solas-as-character is re-translated by the fandom. And I think that such conversations sometimes need to happen.

Oh yes and Colonel your right... it isn't Abelas's story that does it for me. It's his body and his Tolkienesque attitude. I'm shallow that way but so?
