I made Inky Abe!!!! for a friend and then forgot to save the sliders and I couldn't figure out how to get the same tone of skin. Moron of the year award right here. Whatcha guys think of him?

He's pretty damn close.  A lot better than I could do.  Though I'm so used to headcanoning him with the white braid that seeing him just straight-up bald confuses me.  And there's the ever-present tragedy that is Lavellan noodle arms, but that isn't your fault or his

Chapter two is finally up and done!  I'm actually quite proud of this chapter- I feel like I got the emotions I wanted down fairly well. I hope you guys enjoy.

I admit it. This guy grows on you. The first play through I didn't pay much attention to Abelas. He doesn't exactly get a lot of screen time. He is pretty hot once you get a good look at him. Nice voice too. Definitely hotter than Solas in my opinion.

I can't tell which one I like more Solas or Abelas. They are both lovely.

I'm intrigued by them for very different reasons.  I would not, however, say no to listening to them have a long discussion...or taking turns reading the dictionary.  [has voice kink]

 

Short of getting Abelas himself back, however much I'd like to talk to him more, I would love to get more information on sentinels and temples and the hidden remnants of ancient elves in general.

I admit it. This guy grows on you. The first play through I didn't pay much attention to Abelas. He doesn't exactly get a lot of screen time. He is pretty hot once you get a good look at him. Nice voice too. Definitely hotter than Solas in my opinion.

Completely agree. My first romance was Cullen because I had followed the series from the beginning. I wanted to see what changes they had made to his character. It was a sweet romance but in my opinion it wasn't Cullen I was romancing or maybe it was Cullen after going through puberty. I'm not sure. What I didn't like about Cullen's romance was the emphasis on his looks.

 

I romanced Solas twice and his romance felt more genuine but I didn't find him attractive and unlike most people who go on about his voice, I found Solas's voice too polished and unnatural.

 

I noticed Abelas on my second pt. He is very attractive in my opinion and his voice actor sounds very natural especially as Ameridan. I think one reason I loved Ameridan so much was the emotion in the voice and the fact it sounded sincere rather than a theater trained voice.

Abelas does tend to sneak in and kidnap our imaginations.  Although I confess I still fall firmly in the Solavellan camp as far as canon romances go I find my current fanfic has been hijacked by our grumpy ancient elf.  What started out as a post-game meeting between Lavellan and Solas (sorry no happy endings here) is developing into an Abelas/OC heavy story.  I just sank most of my day off into the first chapter of a short fic about Abelas before he joined Mythal's service (which I'm sure will fall far from Bioware canon).  Young Abelas (by another name), without the weight of sorrow and duty on him is fun to write.  Zevran and Solas are making me feel guilty for neglecting them

  I was actually thinking about some more pre-Temple Abelas but I'm terribly hesitant to name him.  I managed to avoid the need to do so in the fic I posted but if I'm going to only deal with a time period when he did not yet have that name he'd need one.  It doesn't seem like most elves have the names of (I presume) spirits or demons, as Abelas and Solas do, but who knows how often ancient elves changed their names and from where they took them.

 

Actually, that would be a fascinating piece of lore.  [ponders]

Uggg right now I want to kill Abelas. My current chapter has to be rewritten. It's a mess and all because he decided it was time to make one flirtatious gesture. It's one of those tricky moments where the whole tone of the chapter has to lead into the end. I failed. Going to go cry.

 

I agree... Zev and Solas have no reason to complain. They hijack chapters and flirt with Lavellan no matter what you do. I'd say they need a good spanking but they would like that. Well.. at least Zevran would like that.

I... haven't even started my next chapter. I mean, I have the plans for what I want to do, and the general structure, but I am so burnt out. I just want to look at more pictures of his beautiful grumpy face in flower crowns while I contemplate his existence.

@legbamel - yeah the name thing was tough, particularly since we know he changed his name twice, once after he dedicated his life to Mythal and again after she died so I needed two names - one his original name and a second for after he joined the temple (UGH).  My personal head canon is that most ancient elves used nicknames and changed them as appropriate (Solas, Abelas, ect) but still had a formal name somewhere (but I'm not touching that one).  I kind of agree with the idea this thread has come up with that Abelas may become Revas after he adjusts, but I'm not even sure on that one. The Untranslatable Elven Writing codex entry suggests Abelas has a duty beyond guarding the Well so I'm not even sure Revas will fit.  I'm a long way from there in my writing so there is time to ponder.

 

It would be interesting to hear the thoughts of others on this thread as to what Abelas' prior names might be.  I'm currently using Mi'Samahl (laughing blade) as his original name and Nadas (inevitable- connotation of obligation or "must") after he is dedicated to Mythal.  Disclaimer: I never said this was a happy fic, after all Bioware characters=tears. 

 

@Sable, Babelas and Kestrel- My writing time is scarce so you are way ahead of me.  I should finish Zev's story though - its only a few chapters from finished and at least he gets a happily ever after - but, ABELAS.  I do feel guilty about leaving my readers dangling (for a couple of years now ) so I don't want to post any Abelas until I have it substantially finished.  I'm a terribly slow writer as I have to get the feel of each line 'just right' or I end up deleting everything.  I usually have most of the story plotted before I ever start typing, but sometimes the characters change their minds (I feel for you Babelas).

TBH I'm writing less at the moment.  It's still fun, but now that I've played the DLC and gotten my Lavellan to the point where she's healing, I no longer feel the insane compulsion to read/write ALL THE FANFICTION.  Which is probably good.  The hellspiral was pretty all-consuming for a few months.

I'm liking the chapter by chapter approach for this particular work, but there have been a few cases of other things I've written where I think I should have written it all up beforehand, and just uploaded it on a regular schedule or something. Luckily, I"m not sure I have so many readers that they're clamoring at me to get it all done. xD 

 

I'm still hellspiraling. Sigh. But I guess I've played the game somewhat more recently than many people, so I have time still to crawl out of it.

@ Sable: I'm interspersing writing with my third playthrough (Cadash/Blackwall).  I did play the new DLC with my canon character (Elinan Lavellan) using a save from before Solas left and I loved it.  So much juicy lore.  I'm at the point with the game that all the lovely lore tidbits and questions that arose over several playthroughs have percolated through my brain enough to generate a giant morass of fic ideas.  I'm caught up on most of my favorite authors and I don't watch TV so writing is a fun way to relax after chores are done and the kids are in bed (and occasionally on a day off when I feel like being a slacker).  I should be working on my own stories instead of writing fanfic but I use the excuse that fanfic is good practice .

The ironic thing is that my favorite romance was Garrus.  Garrus, the least hellspiral-y of all the guys, whose romantic relationship builds off a fire-forged friendship. Who is pretty much grounded and functional and the best pixel boyfriend ever.  I think part of it is that by the time Mass Effect 2 came around, I was kind of sick of all the angst, and just wanted an LI who was there for Shepard.  I kind of pendulum between eating up the angst and feels, and getting burnt out on them.
