Babelas I'm not trying to make up explanations for Solas' actions because I like the character. I like him because he is so complex character. He isn't entirely good but but he isn't entirely a monster either. I also believe that there can be reasons which justifies his actions. He is trying to restore his people. We don't know how many of them can be brought back. Maybe there are more of them than people in Thedas. It could also be that if he doesn't restore them then they will be lost forever so if he fails then all those people will perish. Now. It could be that depending on his success some group of people will perish forever. Which one of the group deserve to live more than the other group? Which one of the decision is more justified than the other? If you will work to save your world then how is that better than his efforts in saving his world?

Anyway I believe that his story might have several different outcomes. You might be able to convince him that this world needs to be saved more than his world or you can come up with a plan where these both worlds can be united or you will kill him when you try to save this world. I'm fine with all of these outcomes. I only hope that my Lavellan can be with him in the end. Maybe die with him or vanish with him somewhere. Anyway he is very tragic character who seems to make bad decisions all the time. I really hope that there is a way to make him see that his plan is a bad one and there is another way.

I think elves and the Fade are definitely connected what comes to immortality. I was thinking Corypheus and his way of hopping from body to body and it gave me an idea. So let's think about the situation where Abelas is killed. After Morrigan has stabbed him he says something. Maybe that is the way to send his spirit back to Fade while his mortal body will die. So he is alive in the Fade. Of course there is now the body problem because if we want to see him again then he needs a new body. Because he is the leader of the sentinels then maybe somebody else will give his body to him while that person's spirit will return to Fade. So if you killed him then he has slightly different body in DA4 which can be easily done and there are consequences of killing him. So his death really doesn't prevent him from being in DA4

My least favorite Abelas moment.          . But I've seen this posted several times on the Solas thread and I just wanted to clarify because I'm picky when it comes to Abelas. He says sulevin which means certain or purpose. I think it's kind of the Qun equivalent. Mythal was certainty for Abelas. That's how I take it to mean. If he had said endured then he would have been aware Mythal lives on. I don't think Abelas knows for certain that Mythal is alive.

I agree that Solas is a complicated character. He makes Dragon Age interesting. I also do not want to see the Elvhen die out that is why I am hoping they can come up with a way for them to coexist. It would be awesome reading books where you can feel the writer's emotions. Did you see that one note in the Elvhen library that talks about the two lovers basically getting it on in public and then it ends with one of the Elvhen telling them to get a room? I cracked up when I read that.

The more I think about the glorious banters Morrigan and murderknife!Abelas would produce, the more I like the idea 

 

Purple sentinels in the Crossroads are definitely guardian spirits assigned by Solas to defend the place; I don't know if you have to drink from the Well to hear it, but my Lavellan did and she explained it. 

 

After Trespasser, I'm quite sure Abelas was on the opposite side of Solas regarding the rebellion. As Silent pointed out, he still has his vallaslin. And we know that elven slaves went to Solas to have their vallaslin removed; Abelas didn't and his greatest sorrow seems to stem from losing his life at the Temple, presumably because of the changes brought about by the Veil. So it seems he didn't agree with what Solas was doing and has lost everything because of its consequences. Definitely some tension on that encounter at the Temple.

 

I don't like stories that turn every bond between a male and a female into a romantic relationship, so I don't like the idea of Abelas being in love with Mythal. Solas says that she was the best of the Enavuris (though I'd like to hear their version, I'm sure Mythal had her dark side as well) and that she cared for her people; so it could be simply that Abelas greatly admired Mythal and was happy to devote his life to her service and preserving her knowledge. 

 

What I think drives Solas is mainly guilt. It doesn't make a lot of sense, destroying an entire world so that the few remaining Elvhen have their magic back. And eventually what, elven glory to repopulate? I don't know, it seems that Solas spent a lot of time thinking of how to carry out his plan but not so much about what it would actually bring about. He was devastated for the sacrifice he had to make to save his world (or so he thought) and even more when we awoke to find the world it produced. He's filled with guilt by what he did to his people and he feels the only way to atone for that is undoing it entirely.

 

It's not clear yet, but I think the consequence of removing the Veil is, as Solas himself puts it, raw chaos. Mages overwhelmed with insane amounts of magic, maybe abominations left and right as confused spirits seek physical bodies, everyone fighting the crazy mages... in the middle of that, Elvhen are the only ones prepared to deal with that situation. In fact, they are made to live in a world like that and not a world with Veil, so they would thrive. I can't even imagine what would be of dwarves, going straight from being disconnected from the Fade to being immersed in it. 

 

In the middle of all that, I'm not sure what Abelas would do. I'd doubt he'd be very willing to cooperate with Solas; his main mission, i.e. guarding the Well, is long over, and I don't know if he wants to get involved in bloody fighting just to have magic back in a world that is in ruins nevertheless. On the other hand, he could be tempted by the promise of living something like the good ol' times again. After that ending scene my Lavellan is more madly in love with Solas than ever; but if Abelas decides the modern world deserves to enjoy His Almighty Thighness, a new elven PC of mine will be more than happy to help 

 

The secret to Abelas and Solas seeming immortality (I think it's more of a very extended lifespan) is the Fade. I guess before the Veil Elvhen were not entirely physical beings, so if they were really powerful their spiritual nature prevented them from aging and made them very difficult to kill for good (see Bioware? you gave yourselves a way out of the murderknife for Abelas!) After the Veil was drawn, they used uthenera to draw sustain from the Fade, thus making them more spiritual than physical and thus ageless.

I meant to reply and forgot... uggg we need new art to take away the bad Morrigan vibes. I still think it would be great if they ended up working together.

You know what's weird? My Lavellan drank from the well and when I played Trespasser she never explained why the sentinels were there. Do you have to kill them no matter what? Also, I put Celene and Briala on the throne and kept saying in all my pt's that Gaspard is on the throne :/ 

 

Kind of funny. I forgot he still has his vallaslin (I always want to say vaseline ) He was completely dedicated to Mythal. But if what Solas says is true then the priests of Mythal probably had a pretty good life compared to others elves serving other gods. 

 

I never noticed the tension until Silent pointed it out. I was too busy looking at the thighs. 

 

I don't know... it's hard for me to understand what compelled Abelas to be so devoted for that long. I agree that it gets boring if every reason for something ends in love or sex. It's more of a 'what if' line of thought. Funny too because I've never written Abelas being in love with Mythal. It seems too convenient but I do think there is a back story there. I think Mythal did something for him and he became a priest because of it. I don't think it was an easy life for him. I suspect it was quite lonely at times and especially once Elvhenan fell. Damn that's just depressing.

 

Elven glory! Sorry... distracted. It would be kind of ironic if he managed his plan only to then want to put the world back how it was again... that has Solas written all over it.

 

The thing about the dwarves is that at one point they must have coexisted with the veil. There just isn't a record of it. I think the titans are connected to the Fade or something like that. I need to look that up.

 

I think Abelas has probably accepted the world and why would he want to go back to the world if there is no Mythal? Nothing can bring her back in her original form. I think Abelas has more of a chance to move on and accept the new world than Solas in that respect.

I think you may have a point with Mythal doing something for Abelas; if Mythal never did anything without getting something in return, she may have served justice for Abelas in exchange for him pledging to her service. Actually, I think that would make a pretty good story.

I think you may have had a bug, because I chose to ask the Well when the spirit Hammerguy spoke and they didn't attack. Lavellan said something in elven, and then she went on to explain that what he said was a kind of password for Fen'Harel followers so the spirits must be his followers protecting the place. She also makes a remark on how is it that the Well of Mythal knows Fen'Harel's password so they must have been very close friends or perhaps even more (I didn't like that comment at all, as you can imagine) Then Hammerguy joined Lavellan and co. and helped fighting the qunari. 

 

There are some bugs regarding choices (there are so many Trespasser takes into account) In my second PT I reunited Briala and Celene, and Teagan said that it was Quizzy's fault Gaspard is on the throne, even if the rest of conversations did acknowledge the right situation.

 

I hope there is some way to preserve the modern world without destroying the remaining ancient elves. Abelas and his sentinels seem to have been gracing the face of Thedas with their thighs for many years, so it must be possible even if Elvehn have to give up much of their old power. It shouldn't be a hard choice for them, given how well everyone having huge magical power worked in their era.

For some reason Abelas' words "Mythal Sulevin" makes me think about the movie Braveheart. It's been a while since I saw it but for some reason when I see those words I imagine Mel Gibson shouting in that movie and then the whole situation makes me laugh. I think somebody in this thread mentioned that maybe those words were his battle cry.

I also want to make Solas realize that his plan is very bad idea and there is another way to coexist without destroying this world. Even if that happens it will be sad because he must have done so many bad things for his cause and when he will realize that he did them for nothing must be very hard.

The forgotten ones were also mentioned in those books. If I understood right, they were banished and elven gods used them to scare people so that they would become more dependant of their gods. I think one reason why Abelas was so devoted to Mythal might have been that he also was afraid of the forgotten ones. Although I have very hard time seing Abelas being afraid. For some reason I believe that Abelas needed a favour from Mythal and because those favours aren't free then he needed to become a sentinel. He mentions this to Inky as well. Anyway it might have been that when he became a sentinel and saw what kind of person Mythal was, he saw her goodness and devoted his life in serving her. One other reason could have been that the life of a sentinel is a good one compared to lives of the other elves in that empire like Babelas said. I have also been thinking that maybe Mythal was going to free Abelas because his time as a sentinel was over. Most likely because he had served her long enough and paid the prize of that favour. Maybe Mythal died before she managed to free him and that made Abelas so sad and maybe he hoped that one day she will come back and free him.

That's kind of funny. It's like reverse for Abelas. No here take my freedom. I didn't need it anyway. Hmm come to think of it I think it would make a good battle cry. I want to see Abelas angry now. Like really angry. That would be so sexy as long as he isn't angry at my pc. 

 

I feel like I'm the girlfriend who tries to tell her friend that her boyfriend is bad news. But we all know how that goes. Your girlfriend won't listen. I guess I may not think Solas is too bad if he doesn't kill everyone. It's just the fact he is even considering it that makes my eye twitch. o.O Solas is... I don't even know anymore. I have many mixed feelings about him that I'm going to put away for some other time. It's better to think about Abelas.

 

Abelas seems like the big tough guy on the surface but I know there is a cuddly little teddy bear sentinel underneath it all. I get the impression he would be more worried about other people getting hurt. But I'm not sure.

I have a question. It's kind of a selfish question. So I'm writing my next chapter and I have Solas confronting Abelas about Mythal. He decided it is time he tells him that she wasn't a god. The reason he is doing this is because the elves believe they have found the way to a new homeland in Sylaise's temple. That's the context. Solas doesn't want the elves to raise a whole new generation to believe in the Evanuris. So he is trying to tell Abelas. When I wrote this I wondered if Abelas really believes Mythal is a god. I know that sounds stupid. But I wonder if deep down he knew she wasn't. He would have been in the temple and he would have observed her and I keep wondering if maybe he knew but he wouldn't admit it to himself. Or do you think he really believes 100% that she was a god? Do you think he believed the others to be gods too or just her? I'd really appreciate some opinions on this. Thank you!

Yeah, they want Solas no matter what he becomes.  I can understand that, when I was younger I went for guys who were extremely bad for me.     Though I have started a new game with a Lavellan who is aggressively Dalish, hates humans, and if Solas told her what his plans were, she'd say, "Great, when do we start?!"  I figure I have to have a game with a Dalish elf who is like my original Warden -- the one who left a trail of massacred humans in her wake.  She just didn't care.

 

As for what you plan for your story, I would say that it really doesn't matter one way or the other.  They were gods no matter what they were called, and no matter how they were made.  Seriously, you get to a certain point of powerful and the distinction really doesn't matter anymore.

 

Also, I think that perhaps, for the elvhen, there was no distinction.  These were their leaders, they were super powerful and did great things for the people.  That's just the way they were.  They were worthy of worship because of that.  Isn't that what makes a god?  Being worshipped?

I look at Solas from different viewpoints. As a player I find it interesting that he has a good cause and he is willing to do bad things to achieve it. Inky or any other PC is not much different. You have a good cause and at some point you will have to make decisions which have bad consequences. For example when Inky decides to ally either with templars or mages then the other group which is not chosen will perish. If you complete IBs personal quest then you will have to choose between his group or those qunari on the boat. If you don't do that then IB will show up in Darvaraad and you will have to kill him. Solas' mission is quite similar if it will succeed except that there will be more victims. Actually we don't even know that. Because it could easily be that if you stop Solas then his people will die and it could be that there is more of them than people in Thedas.

I also like that Solas is a grey character. You can choose whether to hate him or not and there is no right answer to that. There are also reasons why Lavellan shouldn't be with him but there are also reasons why she should be with him. It's up to player to choose whether he/she will do with the relationship and I think that's great.

I also like those kind of romances where the couple can't be together for some reason. Well actually I like all kinds of romances but bittersweet romances usually feel better if there is a happier ending. This has nothing to do with a real life. I like to play those kinds of romances in a game because in a real life they would be too painful.

I just wanted to make sure that I understood what Babelas meant or more likely clarify the situation because to me it seemed that it's somehow wrong to like Solas romance. I also wanted to clarify my opinion of the whole romance because it's quite complicated matter and I don't make excuses for Solas just because I like him or just because he is a bad boy.

I started thinking again the situation when Morrigan killed Abelas. Flemeth/Mythal gives part of her to Hawke who then carries that piece to that Dalish clan and then the ritual is performed and Flemeth/Mythal shows up. I think we have discussed this topic earlier and I think I migh have been sceptical about the idea that Abelas could have used the same mechanism to escape his death. After trespasser I think this might be more likely than before. I guess I now finally realize that the gods weren't really gods and it's not that far-fetched that Abelas might have used the same method as Mythal/Flemeth did. Of course there must be some limitations on resurrecting those elves because otherwise Abelas could always resurrect those sentinels when they would die.

No. I'm not trying to say that. I was mostly being silly. I do want the option for my Lavellan to move on. It's a game and you can play it how you like. I appreciate everyone is different and has their own opinion on the romance. I have also learned (the hard way) that you can express your opinion about Solas as long as it is positive. So I've stopped expressing mine.  I don't want the Solas thread to come in here and declare war on me... again. Besides, we have Abelas and love and thighs and golden armor. It's all good. Thanks for starting the thread. I worry the trolls will swarm it but I will go add my support.

Yeah, they want Solas no matter what he becomes.  I can understand that, when I was younger I went for guys who were extremely bad for me.     Though I have started a new game with a Lavellan who is aggressively Dalish, hates humans, and if Solas told her what his plans were, she'd say, "Great, when do we start?!"  I figure I have to have a game with a Dalish elf who is like my original Warden -- the one who left a trail of massacred humans in her wake.  She just didn't care.

 

As for what you plan for your story, I would say that it really doesn't matter one way or the other.  They were gods no matter what they were called, and no matter how they were made.  Seriously, you get to a certain point of powerful and the distinction really doesn't matter anymore.

 

Also, I think that perhaps, for the elvhen, there was no distinction.  These were their leaders, they were super powerful and did great things for the people.  That's just the way they were.  They were worthy of worship because of that.  Isn't that what makes a god?  Being worshipped?

My DAO warden was like that too. After Tamlen died she was angry at the world. Plus, all I could think while I played was why would she ever care about human problems? It's not like they would ever return the sentiment. She hated the politics too but loved the fact she could decide the next ruler. It was all a game to her.

 

 I see what you are saying. It's a practical view and it sounds like Abelas. Even if he saw imperfection in Mythal she would still be a god in his eyes. He calls her such in the game but I wondered on a deep level if he really honestly believed it. I guess its semantics.

Silent, I don't want to speak for Babelas, but what I gleaned from her words is that she wants the option to leave Solas and move on to Abelas. I love the Solas romance to pieces and am currently full on the feels train, but I also love Abelas as you all know and would be soooo happy to have another character that could meet and romance him.

Yes, I'd love to keep my Inky for the next game. It won't happen but I think playing as a disabled pc would be awesome! We need to add corkscrew to the list of Inky gadgets.

 

I'm currently working on the Abelas model in Blender. I want to create a scene with  more realistic skin, hair etc. Hopefully I'll have something to show in a couple of weeks. Until then... take care of yourselves!

No. I'm not trying to say that. I was mostly being silly. I do want the option for my Lavellan to move on. It's a game and you can play it how you like. I appreciate everyone is different and has their own opinion on the romance. I have also learned (the hard way) that you can express your opinion about Solas as long as it is positive. So I've stopped expressing mine.  I don't want the Solas thread to come in here and declare war on me... again. Besides, we have Abelas and love and thighs and golden armor. It's all good. Thanks for starting the thread. I worry the trolls will swarm it but I will go add my support. 

 

I think I just misunderstood your post. I'm sorry. I hope that you haven't stopped expressing your opinions about Solas because I defend Solas. If that is the case then I'm sorry. It's not my intention to try to suppress people opinions. Sometimes I just like arguments

Thing with the games icons is that the PS4, Xbox etc. are shared between me and my bf, and the online accounts are assigned to his profile so the games only show for him. So there are forums I can't post to, but thank the Maker/Creators/Titans et al. I can post on this one 

 

Everything related to Solas is always complicated, I guess that's why I love the character so much

I guess it's a bit similar to Abelas. Many people wouldn't understand why you'd want to romance a character whose attitude to you was mainly split between get off my lawn/you are not my people (we know there are more layers to Abelas than that, but you get what I mean. Because the last Solavellan scene was so bittersweet yet tender, I have no doubts that my Lavellan is still deeply in love with Solas and ready to change his plan and help him cope with the burden of his guilt. But she as a character and I as player are also conflicted about his willingness to sacrifice everything including Lavellan for what he sees as the only way to fix his mistake. Bioware did an excellent job with leaving Solas, his motivations and goals in a very morally grey area, so it's never easy (I'd say it's impossible) to draw absolute conclusions about him. And they also did an excellent job of portraying of complex love and relationships are. Many people say "I could never keep loving Solas after knowing what he intends to", and it's probably true. But is it that simple? How many fictional and real people have found themsleves unable to stop loving someone in spite of questionable actions or behaviours? How many fictional and real stories revolve around your willingness to try and change that person out of pure love for the good in them?

 

Bioware managed to put in motion a fascinating story that is leaving no one indifferent, that's for sure.

 

On the other hand, I like to play characters with different stories; one of the things I love about Inquisition is that the stories of my two Lallevans have ended up being completely different because of my choices (also one is Solasmancer and the other a Cullenfluff addict) Even before Trespasser I had sometimes headcanoned my Lavellan forgetting Solas and starting a family with Loranil (I have a mini crush on him, yeah LOVE ALL THE ELVES I know) I'd definitely explore the option to have a Lavellan that moved on from Solas and got the chance to meet and romance Abelas. Let's keep this thread the fascinating place for speculation and thigh worshipping it's become. I'm sure we all can express our opinions regardless of we agree or not. Group   hug!

I think that's the reason why you can't post on that forum. If you would like to post on other forums then I think one solution is to create another PS account for example and connect that to your origins account and then start some of the DA games.
