[Abelas Forever!]

Yes to group hug! I remember vaguely something about Abelas and his group hugs Maybe we should group hug him as well. Or what ever the proper word for that is

When did Vorathrad become the voice of reason? (I am teasing!) Sorry Silent. I am sick and most likely being a bit of a t it. I once expressed how I felt about Solas and his romance and I had people come into this thread and have a go at me. I don't hate Solas. I see a very different side to him. I see a war veteran and commander and a bit of insanity. I see someone who has made choices without considering all viewpoints. Solas acts like he knows best. In many ways I find his romance errrrr toxic. I'm not saying people shouldn't enjoy it or that it is wrong. It's just what I see. I do have a Lavellan that I roleplay as insane and she is all for his plan. There are things I love about Solas and there are many things I hate. He is complicated. But I'll be honest, I prefer Abelas (as if that isn't apparent) He has the potential to be for me what Solas was not. Anyway, that's what I feel about him.

 

I will try my other account and see if that will let me post. You were brave making that thread on here. I get sick of the he is dead argument therefore there is no room to bring him back. Well he's not dead in my pt and we don't know that he actually died. Abelas tends to get more love outside of the forum unfortunately.

I think that it's better to get it out in the open than keep it closed up. At least you can say that you supported something that you felt was worthwhile. It's admirable especially in the face of adversity. I still intend to do the tweet thing but I realistically do not expect a reply. Writers have very set ideas about what they are going to write. But we can at least try.

 

Ooooo I liked Loranil too! I remember after Solas left I went to speak with him. He only has like two lines but it was comforting seeing another Dalish. I have a thing for the hammer guy too. LOL.

Abelas clearly wanted to return to the way things were, or to cling to a past that was gone.  And yet those who brought Dorian along say he expressed interest in going to help the Tevinter elves.  Would he be interested in Solas's plan to burn down the world to remake the old one, or do you think he would see how monstrous that plan is and entirely oppose it?

 

I'm very much hoping Abelas reappears in DA4, after playing Trespasser.  I don't care if he's never a romance option, or if he's not an option for my preferred character race/class/gender combo.  The struggle between wanting to join Solas's plan and knowing that doing so is wrong would be very interesting to see.  The downside is it sets him up as being very likely to betray the PC character, who almost certainly will not be the Inquisitor.  (Too bad, that, because I'd like to deal with Solas as the Inquisitor who had come to know him better than anyone.)  Or, alternately, to get away from the "companion betrays PC" thing, he could serve as a double agent on our side.  Serving Fen'harel, he then seeks us out to help our efforts against the Dread Wolf, while pretending to continue to work for Solas.  It would be dangerous for him and I would expect him to have an ultimate tragic ending.

 

That said, the potential for his death makes it unlikely.  If he needs to be part of the DA4 story, I suppose there are ways for that to happen--there are likely still some Sentinels around who could heal him despite the carnage you would have left in your wake after not doing the rituals.

I like supporting Abelas. It's fun. I would like this battle for Abelas to be a fight with flowers and chocolate. Like a nice little evening walk in the wilderness. But I don't want to pressure writers to make him LI. I want them to want to make him LI I want to think that by supporting him will have enough impact on writers' opinions so that they start to like the idea to bring him back.

I'm not sure was he interested in going to Tevinter. I though so at first but now I'm not sure anymore. He might have been sarcastic. I can't really tell. Nevertheless the whole thing with Dorian and his suggestion to Abelas was very interesting.

Abelas is an ancient elf and I think he feels that he doesn't belong to this world so he might want to bring back the old times. However Mythal died in that old world. I think Morrigan might have sought Abelas and the sentinels after she left Skyhold. I think she might give Abelas a new purpose and I believe that Abelas might accept that especially because Morrigan is Mythal's daughter. After playing Trespasser I think it might be that all those people who were bound to Mythal are now bound to Morrigan and she will be the one who will oppose Solas. In that case Abelas really doesn't have a choice does he want to join Morrigan or not.

I think it could be possible that if there is a confrontation with Solas again then Inky could be there and we can control her/him even if there is a new PC in DA4. I think that would work quite well. I think the whole thing with Hawke didn't work very well because we couldn't control her/him.

My strange personal opinion is that Abelas has dealt with his grief during his slumber. The article I linked below expresses it better than I can. But I agree with what they are saying. I also think that once Mythal was gone, Elvhenan was dead for Abelas. I see him as having the potential to move on because he didn't cause the problem and I suspect his life during Elvhenan wasn't great, or it at least didn't improve until he entered Mythal's service. I maintain that Solas had a very different existence from Abelas, a lowly servant. That's why I hope he returns so we can learn about Elvhenan from the perspective of one of the commoners. 

 

I really like the idea of him being a double agent. It would be interesting to watch him deal with the stress and guilt Ooo just had visions of him dressed in black and cloaked. Okay that's sexy. This needs to happen. Part of me would love Abelas as an LI and another part would love to admire him from a distance. It keeps the mystery and allows the imagination to fill in the blanks. I think if he was serving as an agent I'd prefer not to have a romance. It would ruin the intrigue, or rather, have like a one off type thing. Does Bioware ever do that? It's not usually casual is it? I remember Zevran could be. That could be an interesting twist.

 

 

You know Silent I listen to you when you discuss Abelas's tone. I never realized he was annoyed at Solas until you mentioned it. Then after Trespasser I realized it was very true. You have this ability to pick out the nuances. I lack that. Thigh watching gets in the way.

Babelas I also believe that Abelas have dealt with his grief in his slumber. He had a lot of time to do that. I also agree that his situation is different than Solas'. I think Solas also had an army and he participated in that war and he probably made decisions which lead to death and sorrow to his people and then he created the veil and by doing so he destroyed his people. That is a huge burden to carry and now he has made a decision to bring his people back no matter the cost. Abelas on the other has seen the fall of the empire, knows what kind of place it was, has seen how the world has changed and he tried to preserve part of the well but failed. He is now free. Most likely for the first time in his life. He probably doesn't want to go back to the situation how things were but he probably doesn't want to live in this world either. But since he has to do something then there is more hope that he will move on than there is with Solas. Well there is hope that Solas will change his mind but Abelas might change his mind quicker.

Earlier I was pondering whether Abelas would be willing to teach the elves in Tevinter. Here is the post which inlcudes the lines from both Dorian and Abelas: http://forum.bioware...3#entry19514360

So first I was very excited that he would be willing to go Tevinter to teach these elves. After a while I started to question my interpretation of that discussion and I wasn't sure anymore and I thought I had mistaken and he was just sarcastic. Now however I have been watching that video again. Many times. And his thighs and .. Well I have watched the video several times again Abelas is angry when he says "elves" but other words in that sentence isn't said in angry voice nor his line after that. It would also be weird if he would just ask from Dorian would these elves listen to him if he wouldn't even consider going there. After watching the video and playing trespasser I started to think that maybe it would hurt the elves in Tevinter to know the truth about their heritage. They gain strength from the thought that once their race was superior compared to others races. It was but it wasn't as great as they think it was. It might destroy them or some of them. Maybe. Abelas sounded also sad when he said "It very well may, shemlen. Yes.". He might need to tell them that their ancestors might have been slaves.

I have also been watching the scene where Morrigan kills Abelas. I was trying to see whether I could see Abelas spirit leaving him trough his eyes. Well I didn't. But it must have left him. Maybe it was so quick and it left when Morrigan pulled her knife out of him. There is some kind of puff of dark mist when he dies. It must cover his spirit when it leaves his body.

Okay, I'm getting really annoyed at people who just assume when they see someone stabbed and fall to the ground that means death.  (Not you, SilentShadows, I know you love our golden friend.    )

 

Did we see his body covered in blood and twitching?  Did we hear of a funeral?  As I said in the other thread, people get stabbed and live in our world all the time.  And we don't have magic in our world.  For all we know, Abelas passed out, and then when we left he woke up and healed himself no problem.  I just don't get how people are being stuck on this.  Sure, Morrigan could have hit him over the head instead, but that would be completely out of character for her.  The narrative choice just demanded that Abelas be incapacitated so that he couldn't stop us.  It didn't demand that he be dead.

After playing the dlc it should be obvious that choices made in the game really do not matter. The writers decide in the end. I am okay with it. The dlc was an excellent story. I did not care that my choices were shoved to the side.

Silent one has to wonder how they would manage to get a knife through that armor in the first place I mean if we are going to be pedantic about it. So Morrigan managed to shove a knife through metal??? Abelas was a mage. He could have healed himself. I mean I know we can't use the magic excuse (nevermind it is lore) but it is a possibility. Do I even need to go through the possibilities of how he might have survived? I'm thinking about tweeting Mr. Weekes. Not that I believe he will respond. But I'd just love to know if there is even a possibility Abelas could be a companion. This is driving me insane. LOL

 

As for Tevinter. Firstly, it's interesting that it was mentioned to Abelas. I think we are headed to Tevinter next... maybe. I don't even know how it would work. I mean does Abelas go into a magisters home and explain he'd like to have a word with their slaves so he can tell them how great they used to be? I believe there are some magisters who are elves? I assume there are some free ones running around. It would be interesting if Dorian could give Abelas a voice in the magisterium. When it comes down to it, I think the magisters would simply love to get their hands on an ancient elf. It wouldn't be safe for him to attempt to educate elves in Tevinter. But I do like that it was suggested. I think basically what we witnessed was Abelas's polite side when he was speaking with Dorian. Abelas mellowed after he knew his duty was over.

I will respectfully disagree with you because I really want to play the Inquisitor in the next game.  I believe the story demands it due to the emotional momentum Trespasser created.  But that's for another thread.

Yes!  I don't think that mention of Tevinter in Abelas' dialogue was meaningless.  I do think, however, that he will be some sort of spy, as I cannot see him as anything but undercover.

 

Which brings me to another thought:  if he does turn out to be a companion, what class do you think he would he be?  I see him as a melee-mage (Dirth'ena Enasalin), obviously, but what if, instead of a tanky-type Knight-Enchanter, he's more of a sneaky type?  This reminds me of how much fun I had as a two-handed Ranger in that old MMO Shadowbane.  Sneaking up on people and backstabbing them with a greatsword was so much fun.

According DA Heroes he is a mage. But that is DA Heroes. Since we know he follows the path of Dirth'ena Enasalin he could indeed be melee-mage, which would be completely awesome. instead of the spectral blade I think he'd stick with tradition and have a physical weapon. I have a feeling the Elvhen would frown on using wisps for weapons considering dear Mythal became a wisp. I get the impression anything spirit based is sacred to them. That would be so much fun! Cloak and dagger Abelas sounds so sexy. I wish BW would consider having cut scenes where we actually play as our companions occasionally. I have never played Shadowbane but I do love me some sneak and kill. Daggers and bow is always my favorite. 

 

You know Vorathrad I completely messed that sentinel thingy up. It was supposed to look like this: (I feel like an idiot) Solas you no wear it better sunshine. Oh yeah and Solas is timid about showing off his crotch. Size no matter... It's how you use it Solas. Everyone knows that.

The fact that I can overlook his ego and elitism and still really like the guy says a lot about who he is as a person. Generally, arrogance and self-importance, especially elitism, are deal-breakers for me. I just can't deal with them. But with Solas, you just have to accept them and take them in stride as some of his flaws, because despite his reserved secretiveness, his stoic demeanor, he's a genuine dude, and that's just not something you see every day.

I was looking through games files yesterday. They really did put make up on Abelas :/ I just... no words.

 

In defense of Abelas' makeup, because I don't like makeup on men, when I created a male Lavellan with Abelas' skintone, "lipstick" had to be used otherwise his lips turned out bubblegum pink.  Also the eyeliner bit... I headcanon that as being shadows from his hood... yeah.

I think it's quite interesting that Morrigan decided to use her knife instead of magic to stop Abelas. I mean really? She forget that she's a mage? But. It's ok. Sometimes those kind of things happen. It's not a big deal for me but the whole thing is still in the game. Abelas surviving from the stabbing. C'mon If Morrigan can survive stabbing and decide that her best option in that situation is knife then Abelas really didn't die

I also think that Tevinter discussion might mean something. They might have had some idea with that so they added that to game. Whether they will do something about it is another matter.

I find it so funny if Abelas would go to Tevinter:
Abelas: "I'm here to educate your elves."
Magister: "What? No! Absolutely not! How did you even get in?"
Abelas: "I opened the door and walked in."
Magister: "You filthy dalish.." Abelas casts an earth spell and turns magister into a tree.
Abelas: "I can find those elves myself."

I think only way to Abelas to survive in Tevinter is to become a magister. I think that might be possible but people wouldn't like him there. Although Dorian could help him and it could actually work.

I think Abelas is a mage. His specialization is gorgeous thigh-enhancer

Honestly, the stabbing was lame. If he had to die it should have been during a huge magical fight where his clothing gets ripped off and his chest and thighs are exposed. Once that happened, Morrigan would have stopped to admire and the temple orgy would begin!!!!!!!!!!! Mythal enaste!

I have to confess, I love eyeliner on men with gorgeous eyes such as Abelas, and those lips... (didn't I say last time I'd try to write something articulate?) 

 

I think that Abelas teaching the elves of Tevinter would hurt him and them because they are just so different now; elves might not accept the truth about their civilization easily and Abelas would suffer from seeing how different they have become (though it's just simple historical process in my eyes, empires rise and fall and people living millennia apart are radically different, naturally) But I'd also be fascinating to witness, Abelas coming into touch with modern times after so many years trying to preserve the old ones.

Following on this, I think there is a fundamental difference between Abelas and Solas: Abelas is a caretaker, while Solas is the harbinger of violent change (drastic changes usually are) They both have been in uthenera for long periods of time, but Solas went into it just after drawing the Veil while Abelas has been awaken from time to time, witnessing the changes of the world even if in an uncomplete and distant way. That's why I think Abelas would be more willing than Solas to fight for modern Thedas along with the Inquisition: Solas needs a year with the Inquisition to see modern people as people, while Abelas only needs some respect for what's important to him (the rituals) and he not only sees Quizzy as a person but even kinds of respects her by the time he agrees to give access to the Well.

I'm not deliberately picking on Solas (unlike usual) but it reminds me of the first time I tried on high heels. He's like: how the hell do I walk in this? Why the hell did I listen to Abelas when he said this armor was a chick magnet? I can't feel my f*cking legs. It rides up in weird places. How the hell do you take a p*ss in this? I can see the inner dialogue just from his stance. Solas is like: Please, tell me Lavellan is impressed. A bottle of oil and two hours later, I finally slipped into this. Why is she looking at me like that? Does she even remember the sentinel roleplaying we did back at the keep? Going to f*ck Abelas up when I see him next. 

 

I would love to hear some banter between Abelas and Solas for realsies. It would be too damn funny.
