Yup, but here he is with hundreds of years of conditioning to be stoic, and perhaps even cynical, to hide who he is and what he's feeling, to serve Mythal, whatever she might ask of him.  He detests the modern world, feels no kinship with the shemlen elves (though perhaps he could; he does respect the Inquisitor, at least).  And from his dialogue I'd say he has a vested interest in Not Becoming Mortal Like You Guys.

Well, he may not even be immortal anymore now that the Well is gone.  We simply don't know.  But yes, I can see him totally not wanting to be like either the Dalish or the city elves.  But I believe that both Solas and the Inquisitor have given him hope that there's a place for him somewhere (assuming, of course, that Morrigan didn't stab him).

I have to say, the scenery isn't so bad with the Arcane Warrior.     The RNG gods hate me, though, so his nice armor hasn't dropped for me yet.   :(

Spoiler

Don't you just have to craft it?

Morrigan is so... I don't know.  She wants more and more power, but I'm not pinning down a particular agenda for her other than "get ALL the knowledge," and what use is that if you don't share it or become immortal or something?

Because of that, I think from now on I may just take the Well and let Solas yell at me for it, if it fits my character.  'Cause if Morrigan is up to something other than Gaining All The Knowledge... then, well... letting her take it is also a serious affront to the Sentinel Elves.  (Not to mention she runs away with that knowledge you let her take, instead of staying and helping you.)

I don't know.  I found it earlier today in my armor schematics, but I have no idea if it was always there or if I picked it up somewhere.  But in any case, my Cillian now looks a lot more like Abelas, and it makes me very happy.  :)

Yeah, after watching the video where Morrigan stabs poor Abelas just doing his job, I may do the same thing.  The total rudeness and lack of respect from her really rubs me the wrong way.

I know you can loot it, but as far as I'm aware the craftable version is always there. Just need the matts. I'm still working towards that atm. :P

Tell me about it.  I mean, she can't even deal with an elf knowing more about elven stuff than she does (oh hi Solas, I didn't realize you were an elf, who might know things about elves!).  I originally thought those two would get along.  I was soooo wrong.  And again, it's not like she even seems to have a specific agenda, other than gathering as much knowledge as she can... which then she might not even share (unless she shares with Kieran--assuming he exists, but if he's not a mage when he's older, that's probably not going to happen either).  Solas may be right about her, gaining all that power for its own sake.  She's dangerous (especially if she's willing to murder to get what she wants).

But back on topic...

I wish Abelas really would show up at Skyhold after that mission.  Or, if he and the other Sentinel Elves could go join the Dalish and start teaching them stuff... imagine if the Inquisitor goes to visit the other Dalish and suddenly all of the lore is different, and some parts of their culture totally discarded or changed!  They wouldn't listen to Solas, but Solas couldn't tell them who he was, either.

Just popping in to say hello err'body, Abelas is fantastic, and as soon as I can, I'll likely be writing up Things with him. All the Things.

Yes!  He has vallaslin, so they would more readily accept him, at least more than they would Solas.  I imagine he'd wander a long time, though, searching for other elvhen like himself, and then come to the conclusion that being free is better and that he could really make a difference in the present world.

Side-characters are often the most interesting I find, because writers are willing to take more risks with them than they are main characters.

Not to say that the main characters in Bioware's games aren't fantastic and fantastically written. They are. But I think the same holds true for Abelas; he isn't a 'main' character, so his backstory can be more 'specific'. (No but really, as soon as I'm done with this playthrough, I am writing all the things.)

Wait, Abelas, what do you mean when you say "We must prepare for those who cast Mythal down?" Who cast her down and why are you preparing for them?

*blinks*  Why did I never notice this?  That's it, my next Lavellan is drinking from the well.  Screw you, Solas, and screw you, Morrigan.

As for who it is, my money is on Falon'din, or another god who was tainted by the blight.  Annnnd, maybe Abelas figures out who Solas is by the end of their conversation and goes to join Fen'Harel in building an elvhen army.

Though I would prefer that he goes to Skyhold and helps Lavellan build an elvhen army.  ;)

Wow, I never saw this either.  Poor Abelas, that last codex entry is so, so sad.  New quest accepted: help Abelas find a new name.

Horrible yellow-eye theory incoming:

I sure hope that Abelas is not Morrigan's biological father, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that she is the one who stabs him if you go that route.   :pinched:

Pffft. I doubt it, though, since he's spent most of his time sleeping and probably hasn't seen Mythal since she was Mythal and Morrigan is in her early 30s or so in Inquisition. Morrigan probably just got the gold eyes from Flemeth. I do think people connected to Mythal having the yellow eyes could be some kind of a thing, though.

Morrigan stabbed Abelas to death (super mad at her!) in my 1st playthrough. What do I do to make sure she doesn't do that again?

Do the rituals at the temple instead of following Samson/Calpernia and then choose ally with the sentinels.

I think you have to do all the puzzles in the temple and accept the deal with Abelas. That's what I did and Morrigan didn't stab him.

Edit: Oh, someone answered before me. Lol

I headcanon that Abelas turns up at Skyhold a bit after Corypheus's defeat, and my Lavellan pesters him about ancient elves until he folds and finally starts teaching her

Guys, going by empirical evidence, Abelas is probably bald under that hood.  Which is not kosher.

Hehe, we all have different tastes, I guess.  Though if you want to headcanon that he just shaves his head instead of being an egg, go right ahead.  :)

It does seem like BioWare is going down the "ancient elves have to look like aliens so we're making them bald" route.  Which is lame, if you ask me.

And I'm still trying desperately to play a male Lavellan, but I can't seem to get past his narrow boy-shoulders.  :(  I need a body-switch mod, like yesterday.  Even Cillian the Dalish Arcane Warrior in multiplayer has decent shoulders.  :(
