Okay face pictures... but I'm going to warn you... he looks very different without his hood. As I recall... the first time I did this some people were like wha??? You either love that nose or you don't people. LOL  I personally love all of him. ... butt shots next.

 

His nose looks a bit like my boyfriend's.  Sable approves +100.

I think he's gorgeous. His looks are unique and not perfect and I love that. But you know.. I get why people find his nose unattractive. I just felt bad the first time I put his mug up on here and some people were surprised. :/  Did you think his nose was going to change when his hood came up? It's broken btw according to his model. It makes sense. I'm certain he has been hit in the face many times over protecting the well. I do know this about the sentinel models: they had a special mask on their skin to make them look somewhat dead because of sleeping. The eyes have a special mask on them as well. Abelas's eyes are so pretty when you get up close. I think if Abelas had hair and normal effing ears and a normal skin tone he would look more appealing to some people. I can see past it but I've decided to model him in Blender and hopefully I'll be able to make him look more realistic. I'm taking him out of his armor, giving him a new body etc... It won't be in game Abelas.

 

Now that I'm messing around with hair mods, I think the ancient elves had the right idea.  Bald is beautiful.  Hair and elf ears are a horrible, clipping mess.  It certainly would have detracted from Abelas's glorious golden gravitas if I'd been wondering during that whole scene, "But WTF is up with your EARS?!"

I am also a fan of the strong nose. and i'm pretty sure there is an inappropriate saying about noses in comparison to  um...other things. I want to mod DAI so badly but I just don't have the patience for it. I wonder when they'll figure out model swapping so we can be utterly indulgent in our love for the thighs.

Chainmail asscrack.  OBVIOUSLY

 

We are talking about the same armor that features Lumiere and Cogsworth.  Some...questionable aesthetic choices are to be expected.

Oh, sorry, I'm not creating mods myself.  I'm just checking out the ones made by our wonderful modding community.  There are definitely some hairs where no matter what you do, the ears clip.  Come to think of it, that's true of the base game too.  I've wound up taking screencaps in the CC of each modded hair and where the ears have to go in order to minimize clipping.

The modding community really is awesome. They are so helpful and have always answered questions. They are damn patient people too. 

 

Clipping is just a necessary evil. But it is why you end up with most games opting for short hair on their characters. Gorgeous armor can be ruined by too much hair poking through it and helmets look silly if half of your hair is sticking out the side. It's not an easy problem. I had to admit I was impressed with Witcher 3's hair meshes. They managed the long hair on the females but as I recall none of those ladies were wearing armor just tight clothing. I think it was nvidia that helped the team develop a new strategy for hair. That's how much of a pain in the ass it is. That was very nice of you! It's amazing what they have accomplished with little to no support from the devs. I know Frostbite isn't that easy to deal with, but they have managed in spite of it. 

 

The chainmail? Realistically you couldn't move in a solid piece of armor. It's not flexible metal. But chainmail is flexible enough to move in. Technically, it might be there to disguise mesh seams or for animation purposes. His armor splits into three distinct pieces as I recall. You can put different functions on each piece and its easier to deal with if it is seperate. Some thought was given to consistency that it would carry to the back as well. And that armor... was very well thought out.

Huh.  Didn't know that about Witcher 3.  I know hair's a pain in the ass; one of my friends does fabric and hair animation at Dreamworks.  And it sounds like it's a huge pain even in pre-rendered movies.  I can't begin to imagine what a nightmare it must be in a game.  Alas, for we shall never see Abelas with that long white braid in-game.

 

And I know next to nothing about armor, so I'll take your word for it  I just figured the vacuum-sealed armor was enchanted so it moved more like a second skin, and less like a hunk of metal.

Yep Abelas has three or four scars on his face. I'd have to count. I mean I know it would be torture to go look at him some more and all... How can I be out of likes??

Or, you know, magic to keep it from pinching.  Hardcore or not, I don't think Abelas would make a very good sentinel if he ran into battle going "OW OW OW my undercarrriage."  It ruins the ancient swagger effect.
