Because she had been murdered. I suspect also that there were many temples to Mythal. But one thing I did notice was the statues of Fen'Harel throughout the temple. You remember the Emerald Knights and how they had all the statues of wolves that symbolized the relationship between knight and wolf guardian? Same thing in my opinion. When i first saw those statues all I could think was that it was guarding something. It looks like a guardian. They are at the feet of Mythal's statue.

 

Solas is bigger than temple guardian. I think he was her personal guardian. He went where Mythal went and he failed in the end to protect her and then he sought vengeance. I also think he removed his vallaslin after she died. I think he wore it willingly to show his loyalty and love. I think Solas loved Mythal in a deep immortal sense and they were very much connected. I am also beginning to wonder if they were lovers. If not, then she was like a mother to him. 

 

As for Abelas's bitterness. Well... the cause could be many things. Solas failed to protect Mythal. He may have also been the underlining cause of her murder without realizing it. Maybe Mythal began to change once Solas became physical. Perhaps... it's jealousy. For all we know Abelas may have once been her personal guardian. Mythal and Abelas may have been lovers. People discount that but obviously things between Mythal and Elgar'nan had deteriorated. We know Mythal is Elvhen like any Elvhen. She would be lonely. I don't see it as an impossibility. And if Abelas and Mythal were romantically involved it would explain his complete and utter devotion. Or it could simply be Abelas blames Solas for Mythal's murder. I suspect there is a lot of that there.

Except I'm not really sure Abelas felt romantic love for Mythal. I'm more and more convinced against my own wishes and my love for my Lavellan that Solas did and they had something, at least for some time. He was definitely her guardian, I think the codex on the Deep Roads says as much about their statues. 

 

But I'm not so sure about Abelas. As Silent said, he was way below Mythal and elven society classes seem to have been pretty rigid. Perhaps the thing between Solas and Mythal was so unusual and complicated because the Evanuris never got involved with their servants (maybe for casual flings, but not solid relationships) Still, Abelas has enough reasons as it is to be bitter with Solas: the consequences of his rebellion probably brought about the murder of Mythal and therefore that he and his people were confined to the temple and to that terrible life of waking up and fighting; and his putting the Veil in place prevented them from ever going back or even do something with their situation other than to slowly die through the ages (jeez the more I think about the sentinels, the more dramatic their story seems)

Honestly, Abelas doesn't seem Mythal's type most likely because we know what she does after she ummmmmm errrrr.... Okay but before she was Flemythal I guess she was married to Elgar'nan? I mean the pantheon is made up of her children. If... legend is correct. You know how f*cked up that all is? I'm not sure the legend is correct. Solas says the Evanuris were generals first. Wouldn't it be weird if a whole a family were generals? 

 

Yeah I am agreeing with you... I don't see Abelas and Mythal doing the hundred year spirit love thing. Poor Abelas... has he had no one? The sentinels have had a sh*t life. Plus, they were having children and bringing that problem into the mix. Mortal children dying off in a temple dedicated to a dead goddess that wasn't really a goddess :/ Cheery.

 

You know I am tempted to tweet the knee caps.

I think what Solas tells us about the Evanuris is little and maybe biased (lo and behold...) Their structure definitely seems like the Greek pantheon, but that's how legends portray them. They may have been just a bunch of powerful families that grew even more powerful during war. Like, you know, magisters.

I was thinking about the same to be honest, also, the all by myself got me cackling and being :c in the same time. Maybe it is either by that time out of their grasp, or their carem, or just simply, as you said, neither would have wanted a whole people under solely her "rule"?

Abelas definitely knows that there is price for asking something from Mythal because he says so. Babelas I have also thought that Abelas might have become sentinel so that he could pay his debt to Mythal and when Mythal died it was very difficult for him because he knew that he could never be free. However I think there must be more to his grief than that. Maybe he really believed in Mythal and by that I mean that maybe he believed that Mythal was doing the right thing. The whole thing must have become very personal to him when she died. If he wasn't dedicated in serving Mythal before her death then after her death he must have become very dedicated. Maybe because those who killed Mythal also prevented him from being free.

After Tresspasser I have started to believe that Mythal and Elgar'nan were never a couple. Somebody must have made that up.

THERE WAS BLOOD COMING OUT OF Abelas's MOUTH BABELAS! BLOOD! D: I never noticed that in videos before. I tried to screenshot it and failed. And I'm glad I did because...ouch! My heart! 

 

Never again! The whole process was just...never again.

I'm sorry I couldn't have done it and I kind of wish now that I hadn't asked. I knew about the blood but I've never seen it. I refuse to see it. I just feel bad that you did.

 

I'm going to guess Solas sounded very angry.

 

Sleep, protect, serve... what an existence. I knew they/he was miserable. This kind of brings it home. 

 

It makes me angry the choice was even given.  I hate pointless deaths. It just feeds the trolls and we end up losing interesting characters. Masal din'an... what does that mean? Something about death... but Masal? To the death? I can't translate it.

It's fine! I'll just go stare at fanart until things get better.  I believe he's just giving orders to the others. He says Venavis(sp?) When you first enter and that seems like an order for the sentinels to hold their weapons. I think Masal din'an was used as an order to kill us.  You are welcome! Have fun writing! Edit: The last thing Abelas said in this path is: "Mythal Sulevin" Sulevin means certain/purpose. What was he trying to say? It would make sense if he said Mythal Suledin but he didn't and I just don't know what he's trying to say there.

 

Could Mythal Sulevin (Mythal's purpose)  just be an old mantra of his? Did Mythal reveal something to him in that final moment? 

As he slumped forward his magic seemed to separate from his body (head), was that his gaes being lifted? His spirit leaving? IDK! 

 

I do know that he fell near the well. and when morrigan/inq drinks from the well it sort of explodes, sending waves of water out of the well and onto the area surrounding the well. Which means Abelas either dead or mortally wounded was covered in magical water. MAGIC WATER! Maybe it has the ability to save him. I am just grasping at straws! I want him to be okay!!!

I've been browsing the Avvar entry on the wiki, and was reminded that Andraste prayed to Korth and the other Avvar gods, but only the Maker answered her.  Since we know from JoH that those gods are spirits, I'm starting to think that Mythal is the Maker.  The sun symbol is Elgar'nan's, but if he's locked up, how could he answer?

 

Meh, I don't know, but maybe the whole Andraste thing is simply another case of a human woman praying to the spirits, and Mythal is the one who answered and was welcomed into the human's body like Flemeth.

As for being the Maker I'm not 100% sure. Cole does say that the maker is far away and refers to the maker as a "he" so it could be Elgar'nan. Looking for a codex. brb

That is true. I just see her wearing it as a symbol, not a personal choice. Showing her devotion and service to the Chantry and Andraste, her status?

Yeah I think Meredith's headpiece is in reverence to Andraste. If Andraste wasn't Mythal I will be extremely surprised. Both had only daughters for a start. I think the clincher for me is the fact Andraste had an elven lover and general and she sought a second home for the elves. I smell Mythal all over that.

What I'm thinking basically. Like, what if Mythal contacted Andraste? What if the two of them teamed up and Andraste's magic was amplified by meeting up with Mythal's remnant to exact justice upon the Imperium and free the Elves, and when Andraste the Dumat OGB Somniari Blood Mage (god that's a mouthful) perished Mythal returned to the Fade and clawed her way to Flemeth as the ages progressed?
