Oblivion isn't really comparable to DA2

the TES fanbase actually likes it, it sold very well, and helped spawn the TES hype that propelled Skyrim to its hights.  It also established the reputation for being mod friendly.  And some corners of the internet actually prefer it to Skyrim

I want to like this post, but I can't do that when you say you have zero interest in my favourite RPG of the last 12 or so years. Edit that part and you'll get yet another like from me.  :P

I'm not going to lie, I don't have any interest in playing the game.  I am genuinely glad that the folks that bought the game had a good time.   ;)

I know of plenty of members of the BSN that like DA2 despite it's flaws though, just as I know plenty of long-time TES fans that jump-up-and-down hated Oblivion.  Using an official fanbase as a gauge of how good/bad a game is isn't a good idea.  Fans oftentimes will either gloss over a game's flaws, or pick them to death.

You've been here a lot longer than I.   You've seen the fans.  You know this.   :)

Some corners of the BSN prefer DA2 to Origins as well.

Agreed... somewhat. Comercially, Oblivion was a hit from the very beginning but according to what I remember, Bethesda's fans weren't particularly fond of it in the beginning. That changed relatively quickly, but the point remains.

Having said that, I don't see Dragon Age II going down the same path, even if you discount the fact that Oblivion was a huge factor to the modding community in TES.

And, for the record, I'm personally quite fond of DA2, as flawed as the game obviously is.

For me its still the worst of the series (I start with Morrowind) ... hideous graphics even back then, the story was good on paper but ... not very well executed, as usual with Beth, and the world way too bright and generic, without any sense of grit. And those Oblivion-Gates were more annoying than any fade-Rift...yet with some mods it was okay. Though I played Morrowind far longer, and Skyrim for that matter as well...hey, just like with Dragon Age for me!

And saying this: In many ways DAI stole the premise of Rifts/Gates spawning demons all over the place from Oblivion? Just to give the haters of DAI a bit more fodder. I am that kind ...

Between Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skryim I actually like Skyrim the least even though I still think it was a good game.

Morrowind is top once I add in the mod to remove the pants on head stupid combat system that allows for "missing" on a clear visual hit that makes the early game combat unbearable.

I'm not terribly worried. Besides the point about digital sales not being counted - I myself pre-ordered the digital version - Dragon Age has always been sort of a niche game; we were never going to have comparable sales to CoD or AC: Unity.

It's Pokemon. Of course it did. I'm surprised it didn't outsell Grand Theft Auto 5.

Now a Pokemon game with Inquisition's world and production values would be awesome.

Which mod is that? I could have really used that when running around with a spear in the early levels.

I guess I was the one that shot that arrow into your knee.  You were once an adventurer, like I was.

Teasing.  ;)

My favourite TES happens to be Morrowind as well. Hmm.

Have you also stolen my sweetrolls?  :(

I can't recall the name of it, but it's on the Nexus site.

It's mostly just a hack fix to alter the to hit formula to come back with something like a 1000% chance of hitting.

I'm one of the mouthbreathing, knuckle draggers that liked DA:2. Was it the best game ever? No. Did it essentially crap on everything that made Origins awesome? Yes. Was it as bad as most people thought it was? No way.

How is that surprising? Pokemon is one of the biggest franchises in gaming. I'm frankly surprised it isn't at the top of the list.

Ah, see now that they've split ruby and sapphire. Would be interesting to see their sales merged.

Gotta love when one of these stupid threads pop up. Inquisition sold more than enough for Bioware to continue not only with sequels but with sequels to Mass Effect.

It didn't change quickly at all, their boards blew up for a very long time. Morrowind fans hated it.

Are you serious? You do realize Pokemon is one of the best selling franchises of all time right, bioware games can only dream of their numbers.

Sigh!

DA:I was released on the 18th, half the month was over already.  And surprise, surprise, a metric that doesn't count digital sales over-represents console-heavy titles.  Sometimes, I despair for my species.

It's surprising because it's a lazy game, always the same thing and it's still selling like crazy...

Compared to DAI which is a great game, really well made and fresh.

For me DAI is a GOTY 2014, easy.

To my knowledge, Morrowind fans still hate it.

And Morrowind and Oblivion diehards hate Skyrim.

And then there's the Daggerfall fans...
