And what is the fantasy based on? You didn't answer my question. Usually people say that in the context of them lowballing PC figures due to not considering digital download. Apparently that's also true of NPD.

vgchartz is a website that makes wild ass estimates that are frequently wrong.

NPD is a market research firm that is trusted by the industry. They do not include digital sales but there is certainly much more reason to trust their reports of physical numbers than vgchartz.

All that said, the game's been out for less than a month, and I find it highly unlikely that it only sold 600k copies, I know I went digital, and I'm sure others did as well.

The same is true for all those other games.

Unless digital sales were disproportionately high for DA3 alone, it still underperformed just about everything released last month.

Some of those games. For example, apparently SSB sold 700k-ish on Wii U + 3DS. With digital sales, DA:I might have outsold that (which would put it at #4 on the list if everyone else had PC 0 sales).

The NDP list doesn't have, after all, all games that had PC releases (though many did).

Pokemon sold in the millions I thought, so I can't understand how Smash Bros would be sitting at 700k on that chart, or how DAI wouldn't be on the chart at 600k if Smash did only pull 700k.

I was only considering like games (AAA multi-platform), not handheld or Nintendo games (that's almost its own market), and not all and sundry that gets put on Steam or wherever.

Not at all surprising -- I was able to pre order the game for $48 a week before release (probably due to low pre order numbers).

Now, everyday I see the game on sale...I think you can get it for $40 at Walmart; EA is damn near giving the game away at this point (probably trying to get some kind of return on their investment).

Not sure if I should be happy or sad...I want a true sequel to Origins, but EA might be dumb enough to think these poor sales are the result of not consolizing this series enough.

But then it's impossible to know how it did. Does GTA V count despite no PC release? If SSB was #4 on the list with 700k units, if DA:I with PC is at (say) 750K that would make it circa #3 without digital sales for the other titles. Does that matter? It's all speculation

Take into account when said games were released as well. DAI only had 9 days worth of sales in November, whereas something like Smash Bros was released on the 3rd of November. There's a lot of elements in play here.

It all counts lol

Npd is an accurate reflection of physical copies sold.

Why DA has a little cherry on top sales wise is that it's leading platform is not counted, and pre orders made on origins aren't counted.

GTA, Halo, and FC4 were all released on the 18th.

Yes, some games on the list were available longer (AC was the week prior), but DA still fell short of all its peers (and release sales are the most critical in determining success).

DAI fell short of FC4, Halo and GTA in terms of physical copies sold, that's a fair assessment. The rest is conjecture until we see real numbers, with everythin else taken into account.

Edit: By real numbers I mean digital sales, and PC numbers included as well.

If anyone thought DAI was going to sell as well as Halo, GTA orFC4, they were nuts. That can't be a surprise.

I'd find it hard to believe DAI didn't sell comparable amounts to  FC4. How big is that franchise?

Far Cry 3 sold around ten million copies which is probably significantly over DAO and DA2 combined.

A lot of people bought the game for PC, either through digital download or physical copies. These sales aren't even being included in these "reports".

Wow! I didn't realise the franchise was that big especially after FC2.

@OP, I think we should be more worried if this game is selling extremely well. RPG games in general do not sell very well. Look at The Witcher 2, todate they have sold how many copies? About 2~3 million?

For a game to sell well, it must appeal to the masses, it must be more main steam. The 1st criteria for that imho is make it more action packed, more streamline. Or make it a sandbox RPG like TES where anything goes. The current audience that they have can only sell about 5 million copies. They want more, they have to reach out to those who are not currently fans of the franchise and that means change, changes that could be so extreme that we may not like.

If Bioware tries to appeal to the masses, they will probably do a lot of things that will make some fans furious, they will turn into Rage Demons and set the world ablaze. Actually... some of the changes they made already made a lot of traditionalist furious; "It aint RPG if it does not meet every subjective preference of mine" they cried.

Regardless, DA:I will catch up quickly especially to AC:Unity.  No matter how much I loved the AC series, they totally failed with Unity.  It will experience a decline of sales if they keep putting up such a mediocre release (those bugs even way worse than what we are encountering with DA:I and its story is not even that great).

NPD says 362,000 on Xbox 360 in the United States.
