Neither, but leaning positive. The positive comes down to the fact that DAI has significantly outpaced DAO on the charts with a fraction of the marketing in first month. That cannot be discounted.

Given BioWare sales history over last ten years and DA franchise specifically, I expected the game to move about 2 - 2.5 million in the first 90 days. Except that we still have 60 days to go and can't account for digital yet. When DAO and DA2 came out, buying digital for games was still a small deal. It's really exploded the last 18 months to two years though, and no one really knows how that's influencing physical sales, which are down 10% (at least) across all games year over year right now.

Yeah that's what I think too. Not worried about da:I.

Bit if a down year for industry though, that's gotta be hurting some especially with higher dev costs given the new tech.

Heh, I'm just going to leave this here. It's somewhat relevant:

Hey guys, I think the old NPD chart / sales thread is pretty old now so I'll just leave this here.

I just got access to November NPD data and amusingly it lists DAI as # 10 (because it groups the two Pokémon games together). So a lot of doom and gloom and "DAI bombed" rhetoric could have been avoided (frankly I consider 3DS games so different from us I don't see them as chart competitors but so be it).

Also (I can't give numbers) the delta between most of the games on the chart is *really* small. Then you factor in the date the game was released (example: Unity had an extra week of sales), price promotions and sales for Black Friday (DAI did not go on sale) and we sold very, very well! I wish the whole story had been told when the chart was published.

I have no doubt DAI will outsell Origins lifetime.  I'm posting this to reassure people who "worry about BioWare/DA's future". Worry not.

Supply and demand is a lie, so are sale expectations and opportunity cost.

Supply and demand isn't a lie but market research isn't psychic. It's a total guessing game why a product flops if it ends up flopping.

You sure that isn't as soon as BG1 was out the door? I can see quite a few cinematic elements starting to slip into BG2.

Compared with FO1-2 and PS:T I think BG2 still followed the industry standard. IMO it was really KoTOR that made Bioware cinematics centred. Though BG2 was their big leap to story first.

How to "Like" something a couple more times:

1) "Unlike" it with your eyes closed.

2) "Like" it again.

3) Repeat* til satisfied.

*Limited "Like"s per day

Are you officially confirming that a DA sequel is in production / has been greenlit, Jarrett Lee?

agreed I'm just wondering where the trolls are (like dlux) who were telling us that DA:I will fail as if their opinion was fact

I never wrote that DA:I will definitely be a financial failure. That is a figment of your imagination.

Chart data says DA:I isn't doing so great, therefore it probably won't be as successful as DA:O. Therfore the butchering of the Dragon Age franchise, with the attempt to (drastically) improve sales, was in vain.

I'm not expecting you to understand that, but be my guest and throw another hissy fit if you like.

Hi guys - obviously it's a drag not to see DAI on that top 10 list for November. I can't really give any figures of course...However, from what I know about the sales numbers (a) DAI is doing great and well ahead of it's predecessors, and a significant percentage of sales of DAI are digital and not tracked by NPD. If anything, I'm more worried about the weird signals this chart sends to the market about DAI, as opposed to the reality of our unit sales :)

Just in case anybody was wondering.

dlux will you give it a rest already.  We get it you don't like the game. You think they butchered DA:I because it is not DA:O 2.0 I am guessing, but a lot of people like it and want the DA games to continue. Someone was worried about Dragon Age's future and started this thread and you come in here and show charts that say it is failing, and go on and on about. Enough already dude. You want to talk about poor sales numbers and how DA:I find one of the numerous post about how DA:I sucks and do it in there.

You are entitled to your opinion. As am I. My opinion is you and your fellow haters don't need to be in this post. Cooperb21 started this post because he was worried and you come in here showing how bad DA:I may be doing. Do you get joy out of feeding the worries of  fellow gamers? What gives? Seriously what are you even doing in here? Can you give me a reason?

he's just trolling apparently he has nothing better to do in life then come every day here to hate on Bioware and worse he sees his opinion as fact (as if he is somehow representing a large portion of the fanbase)

There is no constructive criticism from him hell he wants Bioware to fail and the whole franchise dumped by EA just because he didn't like Inquisition

one of the most annoying posters I have encountered

It's all about money. Jarrett Lee, without violating any rules, states sales are up and DA:I has been successful in that regard. Sales will continue to go up over time as well. With that said, they will take a look at the projected revenue they could generate with more content for DA:I and evaluate whether or not it would make sense to go into production.

Money, resources and time.

EA needs to bury the hatchet with Nintendo, and accept the fact that most people hate Origin.

If DAI isn't ultra successful it just means the next one will be a more focused, lower budget, niche game that looks to devoted fans for sales and not the masses
