NPD doesn't give out specific numbers AFAIK, just what sold the most in the given period.

The numbers are confidential (they only release the relative rankings for the top sellers publicly), so it relies on somebody who has access to the reports leaking the details.

Inquisition didn't outsell FIFA, Smash Bros., and COD over the holidays. I'm shocked.

The problem is that Inquisition didn't ever break into the Top 10 of anything anywhere in the world.

Awards are fine, but sales actually matter, and no matter how much better it may or may not have done compared to Origins and DA2, its performance doesn't seem to be all that good next to its contemporary AAA peers.

I will never understand how Call of Duty sells so well. Same game every year and it's always in the top ten. Smh.

Madden, Call of Duty, & NBA outselling DA? I've lost faith in the gaming community. Apparently the games people like are the ones that don't change.

Shooters and sports have always been the most popular franchises. I remember weekend dorm tournaments in college for things like half life and wolfenstein - nearly 15 years ago - and nearly as many for Madden or basketball.

Meanwhile, if you looked hard enough or knew where to look, you could find a smallish but still influential subset on the fringes that preferred games like starcraft, warcraft and the limited assortment of RPGs at the time.

Oddly enough, where your friends would find excuses to not be on your team if you sucked at the shooters or sports, previously unmet strategy and rpg gamers would welcome you and tutor you up if you sucked.

NPD chart just blows up what most of us older gamers have seen on a smaller scale to a bigger size.

But people on here told me that DA:O sold five million copies!

Oh wait that's vgchartz's (lol) wild ass guess for lifetime sales and the game actually opened at 360k on the 360, weaker than any of the Mass Effect games.

DA:O sold like hotcakes.

3.2 million copies were sold in the first 3 months according to a press release from EA. Did it sell at least 1.8 million copies after that? Yes, and that is the logical conclusion.

The game bombed. Sorry guys.

Spoiler

Uh... those games all sold fantastically. All that proves is that ten games that sold fantastically outsold DAI, in December 2014 and in 2014 overall. Big who cares.

Don't mind him. He's been throwing a multimonth temper tantrum because he didn't like a videogame.

Sales numbers outside of the top 10 are relatively low. The game can't chart in the top 10 in Europe and it can't chart in the top 10 in the US. DA:I was a very expensive AAA game, which means it needs to sell very well.

DA:I will never sell as good as Sykrim. It won't even outsell DA:O. It bombed.

I get the argument, but it's hard to tell what it signifies without knowing DAI's actual costs. Maybe Bio dug DAI into the same hole that KoA ended up in, but we don't have enough data to judge that.

Can this thread die already?

Resurrect it when we have sales figures that at least include DAI, not to mention digital sales, rather than lists that imply nothing except that A sold more than B.

This is especially funny when you are comparing DAI to the likes of GTA, CoD, and sports games which have global presence.

FYI... A leak in the December NPD thread on NeoGaf revealed that DAI has sold 890k in the US as of the end of last month. Not going to link because they don't like attention there. Look at post #1945 for confirmation if interested.

The game bombed. Sorry guys.

Stretching things like always. I'll use your criteria to conclude Origins also bombed, and that Bioware should stay away from making games like Origins in the future,

You need to let this go. It's unhealthy to be this obsessed with a product you dislike.

You were all saying that DA:I will chart in December. But it didn't.

I see you now need a scapegoat to make yourself feel better. :)

Nice fail. If you look at the NPD chart for December 2014 then you'd see that platforms are combined and also include PC retail sales. Your chart data is not comparable... but if it makes you feel better.

NPD November 2009 (WITHOUT PC)
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Xbox 360) (PS3)
2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Wii)
3. Assassin's Creed II (Xbox 360) (PS3)
4. Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox 360)
5. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
6. Wii Fit Plus (Wii)
7. Dragon Age: Origins (Xbox 360) (PS3)
8. Mario Kart Wii (Wii)
9. Wii Play (Wii)
10. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii)

Dragon Age: Inquisition never charted, although even PC sales are now included in NPD charts. The butchering of the franchise was in vain.

:(

heh

And one of the devs has already come out to confirm that Inquisitions sold much better than Origins in its opening weeks, which shows you how much ranking counts.

And for the second month it didn't chart along with Inquisitions. Like I said, Origins failed. Sorry Dlux.
