Its a bad game so it was the most successful launch in Bioware's history?

Precisely. What made all previous Bioware games amazing is exactly what made most of my friends avoid them. While they were playing Diablo 2, Unreal, GTA, I was Biowareing. For them Bioware was like "jesus christ I swear if they talk one more time I'm gonna kill them" and later "so this is combat, I click and the goblin dies...?"

Now Inqui is amazing... for them, surely not for me. Goodbye Bioware o/

So do they simply avoid all the parts where they have to talk? Cause i'm not gonna lie that's pretty impressive.

Where are my kickbacks from these good sales numbers? I mean sure there are the illuminati kickbacks I get from closing threads like a fascist, but come on!

BioWare has obviously forgotten you. Betray them and support endless trolling, Fozee! Your honour relies upon it!

There was a free multiplayer chest for you over the holidays,

doesn't that count as a kickback?  ;)

113 million hours of Dragon Age: Inquisition have been played according to EA in the earnings report. If we knew (or guessed) the average playtime, then we could figure out how many copies were sold.

113 million hours played doesn't sound like very much. If the average playtime was 40 hours (a pretty conservative number for a 150+ hour game), then that would equate to 2.8 million sold copies.

Yeah, that doesn't sound too hot.

That leaves out offline playtime, which isn't tracked by EA.

No, the flashy combat makes it up for.

Also pressing spacebar solves all your dialogue problems. Marvelously.

And here they go come... you my friend have a case of confirmation bias.

Consider the 113 million hours the absolute minimum... but you won't do that, you'll crow that DA:I wasn't viable as a game until the cows come home.

So EA has a better year than they expected, and they credit Dragon Age: Inquisition with putting them over the top....yet this is still proof that the game's not selling well...

So much anger over a bit of math. EA could settle this once and for all, but they don't want to boast about well the game sold for some reason. Oh well.

Here is some more math: only 2.6 million dragons were killed, although there are ten in the game.

At this point I'm starting to appreciate dlux posts, just as performance art.

Considering that it's very easy to beat the game without ever fighting a dragon, I'm not sure what that proves.

So you're say that most players avoided killing any dragons? If that is the case then EA should probably remove them in the sequel.

This is one of the few benefits of 'achievements', actually -- it allows the devs (and everyone else) to track easily how many players not only don't finish the game, but put it away after a few hours. And it's common for these numbers to be very, surprisingly high.

Unfortunately I don't think there's a way to see these achievements for Origin games the same way you can check them for say, Steam games. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if there were many people who not only didn't kill any dragon, but didn't even play long enough to see one.

Using Dlux's estimated numbers, 2.8 million in 1.5 months isn't bad as the stats specifically say October to December of which Inquisition was only out since November 18.

By comparison, Dragon Age: Origins was reported to have sold ~3.2 million after 3 months according to EA.

That is of course, only counting the people who actually sent data back to the EA server.

"1. Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (360, Xbox One, PS4, PS3, PC)"

DA:I Was released late November and received numerous GOTY titles. I am not too worried about a sequel tbh.

Seems EA is happy with Inquisition. From their Q3 report:

That's good for them, but only shocking to haters. Sorry.

What was interesting is that PC sales dropped for them 10% yoy while console sales increased 25%, making PC sales the smallest revenue source for EA.

With the caveat that this is all firmly tongue in cheek:

The release says "launch" so obviously that was the hype train engendering purchases that were immediately returned because of [insert platform specific complaint and/or tirade about false advertising]. DAO/BG2/that Sonic game had more stable long term success.

The release advertises hours and GoTY awards instead of sales #s so obviously EA is trying to save face. They're actually just left one PC on in the EA conference room since Nov. 18/2014 to run up gameplay hours.

You say this is firmly tongue in cheek, but you know this is the prettiest picture EA could paint. Launch sales were great and DA:I won 25 GOTYs. It's not a question of saving face, it's the best thing they could say, without embellishing.

And their PC sales are the only revenue source that fell yoy, and that by 10%.

Most of the dragons are tucked away to the side. The easiest one to run into is the Fereldan Frostback in the Hinterlands, and data shows it is the most killed. However, it can easily dispatch a low level player's party, which is when most people will encounter it for the first time. Usually only 30-40% of people actually complete games, so it isn't at all surprising if many players don't complete side things like killing all of the dragons.

In my two playthroughs so far, I have killed three dragons.

Id say it's possible.

Ha!

Holy crap that legitimately made me laugh.  I must be exhausted.

Anyway, I'm glad we've got that sales nonsense out of the way, people freak out about the silliest things sometimes.  It was obvious Inquisition was successful, but I guess it's nice to hear it from the big folk.

And rename the game to Origins Age: Origins, Origins Age 2, and Origins Age: Origination.

Without getting into it, the things people think EA could to do misrepresent their success would get them in some hot water with the various market regulators. EA's stock is up and trending up and they're selling DA:I as their biggest success. Regardless of how it did objectively, if they had a better product or more successful product to pitch they would use that one.
