The launch exceeded expectations, which probably means day one sales including preorders,

Which still means well over 1 million sales on the first day, and a comfortable sell through rate afterward generated by a swag of GOTY awards and wonderful word of mouth.

Who said anything about accurate estimates? All I can tell is that the game sold less than 3 million copies, so it isn't the blockbuster DA:O killer

Origins didn't sell 3 million copies in the first 3 months.

I should point out that 10 hours was about the amount of time a vast number of people put into Origins before dumping it. Probably less than 10 hours actually.

Source? Or did you pull it out of thin air?

Shipped 3.2 million copies. There was no mention of sale figures.

Origins sold poorly relative to its budget. You should just come to terms with it already.

Yeah, Dragon Age: Origins sold so poorly which is why they made 2 "sequels".

3.2 million sold-in units is quite a bit no matter what you say which would explain why EA was boasting about it. But of course you are now going to tell me that 3.2 million copies of the game were sitting around in brick and mortar stores, amirite?

Shipped is different from sold. If you want to go around boasting that Origins sold 3 million copies then provide a source that says this, otherwise it didn't.

And if you think that the majority of the people actually finished Origins, then you live in a bubble.

No it doesn't. ME3 was Biowares fastest selling title at launch and it only sold 1.2 in the first month. Over 1 million sold copies on the first day. lol. I love how you pull nonsense out of thin air.

The reception is mixed. Check out Metacritic or even Neogaf, a lot of the gamers hate the game. No idea how this drivel got so many GOTY awards when I see how many people hate the game.

3.2 million sales. EA boasted about it too.

Nope, you're using NPD figures which are NA and physical release only. EA released a statement saying ME3 sold 900k on the first day, and DA:I was BY FAR the best launching game in Bioware's history. Ergo, Inquisition sold more than a million on the first day.

Only on Metacritic is Inquisition not well received.

Shipped. Obviously the sale figures were so bad they couldn't use it.

Guys, with a thread about a player being worried about the chances of a sequel reaching up to pages 46 on the company's official forum site, I think it's safe to say that there will be a sequel. While money is important, this franchise has a hugely passionate fan-base, so Dragon Age's continuity is pretty much confirmed - especially after it hit it's true success. :)

3.2 sold-in copies in 3 months, and a substantial amount of that is of course sold-through. That would explain why EA was proud an boasted about it. DA:O certainly did sell more than 3 million copies in 3 months. That won't change no matter how hard you try to deny it.

And if you think that the majority of the people actually finished Origins, then you live in a bubble.

A majority of gamers never finishes any game. We know that already. I just even wrote that on the last page.

Let me paint the full picture for you. If sale figures were the same as the units shipped, EA would obviously use "units sold" because of the extra weight the phrase carries. The fact they used "units shipped" is telling, and common sense would imply the only reason they did this was there was a great disparity between "units sold" and "units shipped."

In other words, Origins flopped.

It's explicity said in their statement that the figure is "sell-in", I.E shipped not sold. They used "shipped" obviously because Origins flopped otherwise they would have used "units sold."

Pretty much this. If the argument is that if DA:I did well, then EA would be completely open about their numbers, we can supply the same reasoning to Origins.

Saying "a substantial number of those shipped games were sold" doesn't really mean anything concrete by that token, since EA still isn't being completely transparent.

Origins flopped? lol. Why spend money making sequels for of a flop? EA just canned Dead Space for lackluster sales.

But please continue your white knighting and praying that EA makes a sequel to this bad game with lackluster sales. Later.

Can they really be called sequels?

Bioware is a business. Do you really think they would have spent so much time reinventing Dragon Age if it was actually a success? Origins flopped hard, and one day you'll learn to accept that.

Origins flopped hard

Source?

Oh right, you don't have one. Your only source is that EA sold well over 3 million copies of DA:O in 3 months which provoked 2 sequels.

The gameplay in those 2 sequels were MARVELLOUS, weren't they? Definitely the side-effects of a "game which sold well"...

My source says that EA received revenue for every single one of those 3.2 million sold copies of DA:O, which they shipped within 3 months of release.

No wonder EA was proud and boasted with a press release, they were swimming in cash.

Both sequels are very bad, especially the second one called DA:I that they spent a boat load of money on.

3 million units shipped in 3 months isn't impressive.

Gaider once guessed Origins cost about 5 times the amount to make than its sequel

I should point out ME3 shipped 3.5 million copies in its first week. And do remember Inquisitions enjoyed a far more successful launch.

And DA:I costed even more than that with 4+ years of development and team of 250 developers.

Origins was in development for more than 5 years. But enjoying the most successful launch in Bioware's history will help recover the costs, unlike Origins which flopped.

Well, ME3 charted unlike DA:I, so I am not surprised.

Yet Inquisitions still sold more at launch. Says something about those charts of yours...
