Does Hawke actually success in doing anything? Task with protecting his sibling, they either tainted by darkspawn after becoming the warden, die, or addicted to lyrium or capture by the circle. His mom becomes a walking zombie, can't stop any of his companions from doing whatever they want. Anders still blows up the chantry, Merrill still has the Eluvian mirror and summon a demon, become a noble but then later driven out of Kirkwall, can't stop Corytheus, can't stop the Qunari invasion, Orsino goes behind his back and does whatever, can't stop Meredith from killing a bunch of innocent people thus leading to the mage and templar war. What does Cassandra expect to get out of Hawke once she finds him? Thinking back, my Hawke didn't accomplish anything.

Just a call back to what Cassandra said after Varric revealed Hawke's existence. What did she expect him to do when he couldn't stop anything?

to be fair, Hawke has a Maker given gift for killing people

he's have killed everyone at the Conclave trying to kill the Divine, but then something else would go wrong and the same thing would happen

That's if Hawke actually tried to be a hero

It's more than what he could do. Templars or mages would had followed him. He was an important person to whatever group he sided with.

I honestly feel sorry for Hawke. He really lost everything he tried to protect. Unlike the Warden or Inquisitor, Hawke was a tragic figure. A regular person that eventually rose to power, but along the way lost everything s/he once held dear.

Sibling, Mother, Kirkwall and those s/he once supported all blame Hawke and forced Hawke to go into hiding.

In the end Hawke lost everything, and if Hawke romance Anders that too. In the end he loses his life

Pfft, Hawke was a mass murder who provided for his family, totally not a hero.

Hawke is really good at winning fights. And he does unequivocally succeed in ending the attempted Qunari conquest of Kirkwall. Which is why he is Champion of Kirkwall. Also, he does get rich and buys back the old Amell Estate.

Other than that, he usually manages a Pyrrhic victory. He rarely just flat-out loses, but instead the win costs him enough that the it feels hollow. He's an anti-hero, a capable and competent figure destined for power, but in circumstances that make his strengths a liability.

S/He kind of wasn't... but that also kind of the point. People created the Champion of Kirkwall out of stories that the actual person had little to no control over. It was an interesting concept, but I remember it being really frustrating to play.

Hawke did have the potential to be at the very least a heroic icon, but I don't think I ever heard anyone except my Inner Circle even mention Hawke, so that doesn't even work. Hawke isn't even good for that, apparently. Oh well.

Hawke is actually an anti-hero.  Not that he/she is evil, just they aren't the Hero of Fereldan or the Herald of Andraste.  And Hawke wasn't trying to be.  As someone else said, Hawke was/is supposed to be a tragic character.  Not all stories have a happy ending.  Yes, I know, moral dilemma.

Hawke was a mass murder

Mass murder of hundreds of people who's trying to be a ninja, and had already broken their legs from jumping down from roofs.

Wow, sounds like your Hawke sucked.  Mine was awesome.  He survived Ostagar, went from nothing to respected member of Kirkwall's upper class, restored his family name, helped purge corruption from the City Guard, maintained a good relationship with the usually xenophobic Dalish, stopped a Qunari invasion cold (thus saving the city and earning the gratitude of the populace at every level of society), put down more bandits, blood mages, and demons than anyone could have expected (including one of the most powerful demons ever summoned), killed a high dragon that was terrorizing the countryside, and protected the people of the city when a madman he had cut ties with years before turned to terrorism to incite a war between the corrupt mages and the templars led by an insane Knight Commander.  Along the way he also prevented Orlais from securing a list that would have allowed them to torture and kill innocents because of connections they had no control over, and he killed an ancient darkspawn/Magister.  He then became Viscount and helped stabilize his city before forces arrayed against him and larger, worldwide concerns took him away from his home.

Certainly he suffered some tragedy along the way, who doesn't?, but they were not tragedies he could have been expected to influence the outcome of.  His sister and mother were adults capable of making their own decisions, and while his mother's kindness ended in tragedy, his sister survived and apparently took to her new life quite well.

Yup, my Hawke rocked.

Yep, it was quite tragic, really. My Hawke didn't romance anyone, having formed an unreturned affection for Aveline and ended up alone with everything he tried to do gone to ****. At leaast he had some fun in Mark of the assassin. He needed a holiday bad.

I really hope that some day he gets a solid win. And maybe a girl friend, poor guy, lol. I also hope I figure out how to make him look something like himself in the character creator, because right now he really, really doesn't.

Aggressive!Hawke actually kinda realizes this. When he/she shows up at Skyhold and Varric says they might have advice, they pretty much flat out say they have no idea why anyone would actually want their advice anymore, given everything that's happened. :S

Don't think this is really a bad thing though. I can appreciate the fact Hawke is a bit of an atypical RPG protagonist. They're not my favourite character we've played, but he/she is the most believable, I find.

Really the best you could hope for from that one, and I had to make some mention of MotA.  Not a fan of how that particular DLC was written.  It's more a Talis story that Hawke and co take part in than a Hawke story.

Good damn question
What did you expect from them, Cassandra? If you actually paid attention to what Varric said you'd knew that Hawks is terrible at stopping conflicts from ending in a big blast

My Hawke never wanted to be a hero. He just knows how to kick ass and survive. Before everything was over he wanted to high tail it out of Kirkwall with Fenris and Isabela. Sadly, I think Hawke is one of those type of people that could survive the world ending and everyone around him would be dead. It totally didn't surprise me that the moment he goes to Weisshaupt, the entire place went silent. lol!

I don't think Hawke ever really wanted to be a hero. They kind of just seemed to be dragged into things or be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

It was the only part of DA2 that was just good fun and not grim, imo. Doesn't mean there weren't other parts I liked, but it was a welcome change of pace.
