In my DA:A game I went to save Amaranthine, but left Nathaniel behind (because who could turn down Sigrun when she asks so nicely?). Luckily I had fully upgraded the keep and the epilogue stated that he survived and helped clear his family name.

 

Now I am in Act 3, can't start his quest and when I try to edit the keep in regards to Yevhen, it insists that me meeting him requires Nathaniel to be dead.

 

Am I to understand that the Yevhen only appears if Nathaniel supposedly died? And if so, will I miss Yevhen in DA:I (no details)? Any way to make Finding Nathaniel activate, if he's really supposed to be alive?

Yes, Yevhen/Nathaniel is an either/or situation; if you get the quest for one, the other quest does not appear.

 

The issue with Nathaniel's quest not triggering if he is alive but not in the end-game party is a known bug. There is a console workaround for PC. See  here.
