It took me a week of playing on CC every day after work to finally get one I was happy with. One thing that helped me a ton with weird angles during cutscenes is to create the character's facial structure WITHOUT hair. It does wonders against funky cheekbones, chins, etc. I then went and played with hairstyles, eye color, scarring, etc.

I don't know if that will help you any, but good luck OP!

Pretty much All of my Characters I've posted were done in a single fiddling with the CC. Sure, it takes me 20-30 minutes per character. But when they're done - I make sure I like them.

Only ones I can't really get right are the female Characters... They're either *So* Basic, or I've dolled them *Too* Much.

My Current F!Human and F!Dwarf look awesome though, so - maybe 3/14 characters were actually scrapped.

I know this thread is really long, but I'd check it out.  A lot of the posters have included screenshots of their slider positions, so maybe it well help some of you guys get more of a feel for what to do.

This is the elven Inquisitor that took 5xs to do, and I'm still not 100% sure if this is what I'd like for my elf:

Sigh...so after 55 hours I just wasn't feeling my first Inquisitor, so last night I made my second. I was really happy with her in CC, until I realized about an hour into the game that I'd made anime Kristen Stewart. So the third attempt begins tonight...X)

I was really glad with my - counting with fingers - fifth female inquisitor. I spent many hours documenting everything with video sequences and screenshots. After completing the documentation with the ball sequences I catched my breath and said to me: "Now I can play again finally." Because I'm a fan of tidy structures I deleted the score of another Inquisitor I brought to Lvl 4, but didn't want to proceed. But - it was the wrong score I deleted. So now my beloved main inquisitor is dead and gone and I haven't got the energy to start her again...

I also was not satisfied with my male Human Mage until after about 10 hrs of re-starts; my Dwarven Rogue was much easier. Am thinking this is because I know what is considered suitable for a non-fantasy race, where the other races may allow for a wider range of choices. So where my Dwarf may have a some feature that may not be considered as attractive on a Human, I can live with it a little easier.

Also decided I like the non-Human default selections more; seems to present what is imagined a bit closer to my own concepts.

After realising that the face editor and the first few hours of play somehow managed to disguise a really awful goof I made, along with some horrendous mistakes in my play through, I am now on restart número tres.

This isn't a new thing by any means (DA:O has the dubious honour of me having to restart 7 times before I got things going), but it does make me wonder... Does anyone actually follow through their initial start with a full play through?

"Horrendous mistakes" like what? Like choosing the wrong skills, or like making a plot choice you regretted?

I played a Dalish elf my first game, and he came out perfectly. He looked exactly like I was hoping he would.

I'm trying to make a human male for my second and, man, I think I'm on my eighth attempt now. My process has been something like this:

1. Character looks great in CC.

2. Character looks fine in the initial cutscenes and tutorial. Not as good as in the CC, but still okay.

3. I get to Haven, and it's like what happened. I did not give you that prominent chin or those duck lips.

4. Start over; rinse/repeat. (And in one special case, the guy's lips got progressively shinier the further along I got until it looked like he had a permanent glaze on his mouth. And I only had the first or second shine option picked.)

My newest attempt seems to be working out well so far. I'm still not happy with his jawline and chin, but I've come to accept that with human males my choices are either 'chiseled' or 'kind of weird' because I can't manage anything else.

Made three totally different characters, was happy with two of them and ended up playing as the first one I made (a hornless Qunari with a wicked messed up head).

The two I was happy with had no hair or makeup, which unfortunately seems like the way to go to me because all of the hair looks terrible and the makeup doesn't survive the move to in-game lighting.

I pushed the wrong button in the character creator and instead of editing the default male head, made her mine. You know, the one with dark skin and long hair?

Oh, I knew it was some kind of mistake and the only way to fix it was to redo all. But I was curious about the game and it was so interesting, that I completed The Hinterlands before my face began  to really bother me. And I hate to repeat things. I really do.

So me, who had custom canon Hawke and custom canon Warden now have a canon default Trevelyan. I almost managed to convince myself I like his face, but deep down, I still know I would have made skin lighter, hairs different, etc. It hurts.

Given the devs have spoken about implementing a face change option in the near future, may be worth hanging in there rather than restarting. Then again, you're not super far into the game too so won't lose a ton if you restart.

I see that a great many of you are very exacting about your CC results. I just thought I'd toss my personal approach into the mix; I'm in no way suggesting it's better than any of yours. I spend about 10-15 minutes adjusting "my" looks and then when I enter the game I just accept the results, pleasing or not. I accept my fate. It's kind of a "miracle of birth" approach. After all, when we create actual human beings we control far, far less.

If only I had your willpower.  I was thankful that my lady Cadash was that easy for me, same with my lady Qunari.  I like my male human warrior too and he didn't take long; under 10 minutes.  Which surprised me; normally I'm wretched at making decent male PCs. I've got a lady human rogue saved that took me about 15 minutes to do that I liked.

I decided after finishing the game with my Cadash archer that I missed blowing crap up and that it was time to make a mage.  I was really unhappy with the elf I had made (in my earlier post w/ the screenshot) and just deleted her.  Since I didn't feel like going through the annoyance for of trying to make an elf I liked again, I thought doing a human mage would be easier.

Heh, I should have known better.  I restarted my human mage twice before I got her looking the way I wanted her.

Been there, done that. I usually have to make so many characters until I create one I will stick with. My dual wield rogue looks like a dashing thief and more importantly, looks good in the cut scenes.

Now for my next character, I would love to make Balthier from Final Fantasy 12 as a mage. This is going to take a very long time.....

Oh the humanity...

I'd be bummed too if all my Inquisitor did was twist and look at their feet without emotion...

I saved myself the pain and played a default face my first time round as I knew what I was in for with the CC given ME2-3 and DA2. I just wanted to play the game on release day. My current character, a female Qunari took me around an hour of tweaking, and about 12 hours in on her I'm surprised how satisfied I am with it, I just hate those ugly vitaars that want to cover my face!

Most of my chars look fine in the CC until they walk outside into the sunlight, The light is too harsh and white making the makeup look clownish no matter what. Still not happy with any of them really. I also totally blame the hair and eyebrows.

Wow, I'm real sorry for ya, aswell to everyone else who's suffered from the "My character's face isn't how I planned dilemma," Surprisingly considering how much time I take to make a character, and how many times I've restarted in past games such as the previous Dragon Age's & Mass Effect, I haven't restarted once. Somehow I managed to get what I wanted my "canon" Inquisitor to be on the 1st shot. None of the hair options made sense for what I wanted for her so I just said whatever, and gave her a Mass Effect 2 Jack shave, and surprisingly I haven't had any regrets. Also she uses the American voice, and it fits downright perfectly.

It took 3 attempts of about 30 minutes each before I was satisfied with my Inquisitor. The first attempt came out looking like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. Seriously I was not ready for that makeup. I only put it to about half intensity (which always looked fine in Origins and II) but damn! The second time around I learned that the half shaved head style looks really stupid and that you cannot create a woman with a small jaw. With the last attempt I went for something different from the dark eyed, dramatic looking brunettes I usually create and went for a pale blonde with yellowish eyes and hardly any make up and I think she outshines the other women in the game by far.

I restarted like 6 times... because I did not like my character. Then I made a nice human female and after 70 hours of playing her, I restarted as a dalish mage. :P This is why we need an option to adjust the looks mid-game.

I feel all of y'all's pain.  Not sure if this has been said already: Something I found helpful was to switch back and forth between the voice options in CC to make my character speak.  Since that's the ONLY way to preview what the animation of your character's face will look like.

I think most people realize now that the most important angle is not straight-facing head-on.  My experience for best results is with the face turned away from me 30 - 45 degrees and the chin tilted slightly up.  It reveals lumpy cheeks and weird-looking jaw curvature that's not obvious from either the straight-on or profile view.  It also works because it mimics the most common angle in game, cinematic or non-cinematic.  Rarely does the Inquisitor seem to look at someone dead-on straight in the face, but always sort of in-askance.

Added a couple images of my results from doing these things:
