Just out of curiosity, are rivalry romances still possible in this game i.e if someone disapproves of you all the time, is it still possible to romance them for giggles?

Rivalry in the fact that you can disagree with their values and they reference that? Sure, but with a heavy disapproval rating? I don't think so, no.
