Like it says on the tin.
It's kind of thin, but the ties could be there. Sera was orphaned, does not remember her parents and was in the Denirim alienage during the blight. Amethyne's mother Iona died at Highever and her father died of a wasting disease before that. She also lived in the alienage since there was not enough room [at] Lady Leandra's so would not know much about her mother. Amethyne was in the Denirim alienage during the blight since this is where the warden can find her.
So ... is Sera Amethyne?

I considered it, but I thought Amethyne may be too young to be Sera. Good catch, though.

I never even thought of this. That would be awesome if true.

Possible, thought there isn't anything to back it up. If Sera could remember small things about her such as she was a servant, she was blonde, she was single, etc. then perhaps.

Nice catch.
I'm not sure, it depends on the timeline when the Warden canonically gave her that painted box, because if it's before they went to the Alienage and met Amethyne, it's unlikely she's the same girl that was living over by Wonders of Thedas, already living outside of the Alienage?
I suppose it could be her, because it does seem in-character that she might have changed her name to something more human-sounding because she felt that Amethyne was too "elfy" for her?

Was that Sera at the door? I don't think it was.

It's a good idea, but I don't think so. Sera claims not to remember anything of her parents. She may be lying, but I don't think she is. She'd have no reason to lie about that. Sera is early 20's I believe when DA:I starts, which would mean if she was Amethyne, she'd be about 10 during the Blight. She'd certainly remember her mother at that age.
I hope Amethyne shows up again during some game in the future, but I don't think Sera is her. Amethyne was left in the Alienage because her mother wanted her to know her people's culture. I don't think that if Sera was Amethyne that she'd just throw that away and try to disown anything elven.

When you talk about the Warden, Sera mentions being too busy playing with "painted boxes" during the Blight to have paid attention back then, the exact item the Warden delivered to Denerim for the Red Jenny quest in Origins. Both the box, the Red Jenny connection and the mad giggling from behind the door when you hand it over to her, makes it pretty likely that it was Sera behind that door?

Actually, the age could be about right. 13ish years since the blight, Amethyne looked about 6 or 7 then. that would make her 19 or 20 which seems about right for Sera. Good lord, her mother would be horrified, lol.

It's been 10-11 years since the blight.

I don't remember mad giggling. And that doesn't necessarily mean she was the receiver of that painted box. Isn't she established at being in her early 20's? 10 years ago, she would have been 15 or younger. (I'm willing to bet around 11) I doubt at that point she would have been a "Friend". That painted box she mentions could have been handed to her by a "Friend", seeing as the box itself probably had little value or importance - it's what was inside the box that was important.

I don't think so. She said she was running round messing with painted boxes during the blight when talking about the hero of Ferelden.

Nah, four years; the final battle in DA2 takes place in 9:37; the interrogation scene that is the framing device takes place late in 9:40.

You hear a child's laughter after you hand it over, so it seems like a child was the recipient of that box. While she might have been a Jenny herself at that point, she was apparently familiar enough with them to presumably have put that notice on the board. And her comments about how she made the baker's life a living hell, makes me think that she started her trolling at an early age?
As for it being handed to her by a "Friend", it was, in that the Warden was working as a "Friend of Red Jenny" during that questline, much like Hawke was working in that capacity whilst doing work for the Kirkwall Jenny during DA2 by clearing out the street gangs.

Again, not necessarily her receiving it. It could be entirely plausible that the "Friend" who took the box and handed the money at the door was taking care of her. After all, Sera was an orphan and needed looking after. The child's laughter (still trying to remember it) could have been at the possibility of a new toy, like any child who sees something new and interesting. I still believe she was to young to actually be the recipient of that box.

Right, I should have realized that even without knowing the dates since Varric is still in Cassandra's custody. I was too busy squeeing over 'NEW GAME!' I guess, lol.

So my Hero of Ferelden banged Sera's biological mom? These forums are the gift that keeps on giving.
This literally made me burst out laughing in my office. Thanks.

It's possible but highly unlikely. As people have said Amethyne was old enough to remember her mother, so unless Sera is lying or repressed her memory it isn't true. Still cool theory I wish it was true.
