I've heard a lot of complaints about choices not mattering. But rather than just gripe about that, in this thread I'd like to compile the choices that do matter, we can then all reach our own conclusions. Some criteria.
1) The choice must be in some way irrevocable either way. For this reason I won't count things like taking camps, keeps or filling requisitions (or generally unlocking new areas unless they're mutually exclusive. ). If you don't take a keep now, you can always take it later. But recruitments do count.
2) The choice must either be presented as having consequences and/or must have actual consequences.
3) We will not be dealing with things you thought should have been choices but weren't. This thread will likely be big enough as is.
Format.
Say what the choice is complete with what the options are.
Say what the theoretical impact of the choices is, if a tool tip or dialog presents such or its inherent in the choices.
Then say what the actual onscreen impact is. Dialog, changes to events, anything. If none, you can say such. You can note if later scenes seem to contradict your choices.
This can even include special dialog you get for taking along specific party members or choices related to which resource is used at the war table.
Note if choices have costs (even opportunity costs) one way or the other.
I'll update this post with your contributions and corrections.
1)Recruiting Companions. Aside from Cassandra, Solas, and Varric, you can choose to recruit or not recruit your companions. Once refused you don't get another chance to recruit, once recruited, only Sera can be kicked out.
Each companion unlocks scenes, party banter, a new squad member for the field and in most cases special missions. (Feel free to list party choices and special mission choices separately or anything especially notable)
2) Choice of gender.
Impact, aside from bugs, dialog extensively acknowledges gender. Your romance options are affected due to love interests having specific sexualities.
Notable lack of choice, the beige uniform.
3)Choice of race.
Dialog extensively acknowledges race. Special dialog options based on race are unlocked. Each race has a series of war table missions based on your background
Notable lack of choice, the beige uniform
4) Mages vs Templars
You get the option to choose to help mages or templars.
Theoretical impact, you get either mage or templar allies while making enemies of mages or templars.
Real Impact, you get a choice of one story mission or the other. Certain party members will be happy or upset with you. Fiona will be in the tower if you sided with mages and you get the chance to judge her (if anyone remembers the details let me know.)
