I don't have an answer, but my Dalish rogue is definitely fun. I went with a bow instead of daggers (to change things up, as my canon Warden was a Dalish duel-wielding rogue). I just love the animations for the different shots with the bow, silly as it sounds.

I don't know I played a Dalish rogue and was happy .
I can't tell if it's better for a mage.
What I liked is playing as a hunter , I just imagine he was used to being kept away from magical stuff , and really secret elven lore (I guess the Keeper and her apprentice deal with that , just like we saw with Merrill and Marethari , the rest of the clan is left a bit clueless).
So I felt like it worked well with Solas , who also tell you things but kept a lot to himself.
Also Sera who just doesn't understand anything about magic .
I tried to play a down to earth Dalish , who was very fond of elven history as part of his identity but the whole ancient magical being living forever and casting spell in crystal tower made him twitch nervously.
The poor guy had nothing in common with those people and he was painfully aware of that.(I could almost see the single tear rolling down his cheek when Abelas told him "you're not my people")

There is about as much special content with a Dalish first as there i for a cicle mage human as opposed to just a noble.
At least mine mentioned her studies specifically as first more than a few times.
I'd say being first of Clan Lavellan is cooler than just being a random hunter, but as all things in role playing games I'd say go with your guts first.

That was my first quizzy, who got Cullen. I felt it really had a nice impact on the story
Working as a female qunari mage now

I've finished a Dalish Hunter playthrough, have started a Dalish First playthrough...
Both are equally good. Mage gets Arcane-related stuff (not meaning Arcane Knowledge from Lel's perks) that a Rogue doesn't. Other than that, the difference is mostly fighting style.

So I kinda want to go with a rogue for my Dalish character. But dose being a Dalish mage add alot to your playthrough?
I had a lot of fun as a Dalish mage. You should try both out to see which one you prefer, but I think playing as a Lavellan mage was pretty entertaining.

Why would the keeper send the heir of the clan (apprentice of her) to spy in the human conclave? That is like the orlesian emperor sending his heir to spy on the fereldan landsmeet. Why risk the future of the clan?
Unless, of course, the keeper deliberately wanted to get rid of you and pick another heir, and that is her way of showing her "appreciation".
I started this post thinking dalish mage made little sense ... but somehow managed to talk myself out of it. I didn´t expect that. ![]()

I found it silly for the first of the keeper to go on spying if you're playing a mage inquisitor, the role of a spy fits better if you're a rogue.
A dalish hunter is my first choice, but as someone said, a female dalish mage romancing Solas could be very interesting ![]()

The Keeper can send you because you're an exceptional pupil, and the most qualified and trusted among Clan Lavellan to handle the task. If Lavellan follows the Vir Atish'an instead of the Vir Tanadhal, she may also think he would be more diplomatic in dealing with humans.

After having played through as human rogue as my second time, I'm doing my third run as dalish mage again and I feel a LOT more involved and conflicted about choices.

I played a female dalish mage. I felt really involved in the templar/mage storyline as a result (being an apostate myself). I justify the First going to spy because 1) she's being groomed to lead and is thus both competent and trusted by the keeper 2) she more than anyone else save the keeper has a stake in the mage/templar conflict. If the templars keep going the way they are, they might start coming after dalish clans for their mages.
Also romanced Solas, which really made the game for me.

As a Dalish mage in the first playthrough I practically felt like my race class combo was what they had in mind when they wrote the game. More so than my subsequent run as a qun mage
Totally agree on this point. The story was so Elf lore heavy and then having the power to close rifts which seems to fit a mage the best since they access the fade on a regular basis seemed like a very natural combo.
