The tattoo is there as ironic fashion statement, because she's a rogue and a troll. Just like all these old symbols modern people put on their bodies not because they actually understand and connect with their meanings, but simply because they heard two bits about them (if that) and think it's cool.

I wanted a more "wild hunter" character. So my Elf, Darel, ended up without make up.

I tend to tone the lipshine way down, only one tick. I do always use eyeliner since the lashes can look like they're floating if it's not used. And that is just creepy. I don't use blush on anything with a facial tattoo or on Qunari. It just doesn't look right. The tattoos are covered by the blush and a "blushing" Qunari? No, just...no...

For eyeshadow and lip colour it varies. Depending on the origin of the character I might go for bolder colours or not.

This elf uses the eye shape with the deep crease. I accentuated that with a light golden brown because she has blue eyes. Her lips are naturally that pink since I used the lightest skin with the 2nd complexion as I like the lip texture better of that one. I do think I may have used a little bit of colour on her lips to tone down their brightness somewhat. But like only 2 or 3 ticks into intensity.

I went for a low-to-no makeup look for my mage, despite the mascara'd look of the first pic. The larger pic closer to what her lashes usually look like in-game.

Thank you, wistful81! It's been a blast playing with the new character gen system- the sheer variety of faces I've seen from it has been impressive. :)

None of my toons, from ME1-3, DAO to DAI, have any makeup. :)

As a side note, who on earth would have the time to whack on loads of make up whilst fighting red templars and closing rifts?

I don't take many screen shots but, none of mine have makeup, I remove all of it. I don't wear any RL and, don't put it on toons in any game if I can avoid it/remove it. I dislike makeup on anyone, we are just people, we all look different and that's not bad or good, just how our species is. I know the majority judges based on looks but, I don't need people like that in my life, take me as I am or don't, not my problem and, I play my quizzies the same.

I think I understand what you're saying and I agree with you on some points but It depends on the person, in-game or in RL. You can be in a mood where you want to play a dwarf with a colorful make-up or a human with no make-up at all. Same in RL, you can wear some make-up , a lot of it or none depending whether you feel like it or not.

Wearing make-up doesn't change who you are :)

Agree and makeup shouldn't just be limited to women and girls either. I think a lot of guys look really good with some makeup, especially eye makeup. Neither women nor men should feel bad for wearing makeup, and neither women nor men should feel bad about not wearing it either. :) I only wear makeup sometimes. I like the way it looks on me, but usually I am just too lazy. Haha.

Personally when I wear makeup in RL it's because I enjoy it, not because I feel socially coerced, or out of some desire to impress or deceive others. Bright geranium red lipstick is a particular favorite- about as unnatural as it gets, I guess. The natural argument is a funny one- not wearing makeup looks natural, but the desire to express and ornament ourselves is also natural, found in many other species, going back untold years. Natural in appearance or natural in behavior- what matters to me is the ability to choose and not be judged unkindly for it, either way.

Touching on what LostInReverie19 said about it not being limited to women and girls, I 100% agree. I look forward to a time when all genders can play with makeup without negative social repercussions. It will be awesome!

After struggling with colors and eyelashes on low settings, I went with white hair and no eyelashes at all. This was the first char that didn't make me want to restart and she's kind of grown on me over time.

I wholeheartedly agree with this. Also, a little fun fact, in ancient Egypt men also wore make-up. Which most people already know. But did you know make-up had a practical use as well? The minerals they used to paint their faces with actually protected their eyes from infections. That's why their make-up was so dramatic. The more they put on, the better they were protected. And very rich people who were too lazy to put on make up themselves hired people to do it for them. So the profession of make-up artists is actually really old.

I can't do it!

I love heavy eye make-up on women.  We all have our little kinks, and this is mine.

Hey, it's less embarrassing than gimp suits.

Although if this game were moddable, you can bet your behind they'd make an appearance.

NPCs that need more or less makeup:

Leliana LESS

Cassandra LESS

Cullen MORE

Dorian PERFECT

Solas also has a bit of shade on his eyelids...LOL Cullen's face is so pale that he needs some bronzer. Dorian's face though is swoonworthy.

I thought Leliana's make-up was okay except maybe for the pink lips. I completely agree with Cassandra and Dorian though (I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who doesn't really like playing as male but who made a male Inquisitor just for him)! As for Solas I never noticed! I shall stare at his face then! .

And lastly Cullen: While what you said is true (sorry Cully-Wully), I'm not sure he would retain his charms with some bronzer :P

I figure a Qunari Mercenary busy saving the world might only have time for a touch of eyeliner

Must admit most of the female inquisitors I've created seem to carry a full complement of makeup brushes along their weapons of choice. But I wanted to try out the Braveheart/football supporter/Elgar'nan vallaslin, so went completely no makeup (seems particularly pointless to wear makeup when half your face is blue! :) )

Imekari again in extreme close-up.  Better lighting.rfodXEJ.png

Also, this was on the Storm Coast and her face actually looks wet.  some of the visual detail of this game blow me away.

Only the vallaslin on my Dalish Inquisitor, though her lips are more pink than I would expect. I greatly prefer little to no make-up on my characters (potential Solas romance spoilers):

Spoiler

I'd be interested in sliders for this. I've been trying to make another elf character for Solas, but have not liked anything I've come up with. I want something with a unique look like my "Snow Elf." Great job.
