To those that have read The Calling how would you compare it quality wise to The Stolen Throne?

I just started yesterday and I'm about 250 pages in. His writing's matured a bit - don't get me wrong I enjoyed The Stolen Throne but it read like someone's first attempt at a novel, this has a more confident feel about the writing.

The plot itself, for my tastes, is better, and the book's just as easy to get into as the first one, he's maintained that accessible writing style - no attempt at pretention, just an enjoyable fanatsy yarn with decent characters, a good plot and a nice dose of DA lore.

I'm currently reading The Diamond Age by Neal Stephenson. A kind of post-cyberpunk novel borrowing a few elements from steampunk too. It's quite fun and interesting.

I'm currently working my way through the Darkover books by Marion Zimmer Bradley. I'm on Heirs of Hammerfell right now. I'd read them all before, but not in quite a long time.

I'm also re-reading The Hobbit.

Fool's Errand by Robin Hobb. I just finished the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb and decided to move right into the Tawny Man trilogy since it is a continuation of the story. I'd definitely recommend them.

I would definately reccomend reading the liveship triology before moving on to fools errand.

The Wheel of Time - The Eye of the World. I thought I'd give it a try given I've heard a number of people say they love it.

Mostly preffering to reach for the non-fiction though.

For the love of god stop now!!!  unfinished series make me sad.  That being said...I'm rereading through all of them to get prepared for Sandersons attempt at finishing it.

Since I just mentioned it in the favorite book thread, my current reading is The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald. Excellent novel, and her writing style hasn't changed much from my favorite of all time, her first book Fall on Your Knees. I've been trying to drag out the reading some by distracting myself with other things; it's too good to rip through it.

Making pretty slow progress on Faith of the Fallen by Terry Goodkind. Also finished Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield for the second time recently, my favorite book.

I think it is about equal.  I am not far enough in to make a good judgement though.
I am loving the book, it really emphasizes (to this point) characters and their interaction.  Loving it...read about 1/3 through in one day.

I got about 120 pages in, then put it down while I was overcome with obsession for something else. That was about 5 months ago, and it's still sat on my coffee table. But I do keep looking at it now,as soon as I finish the book I'm on I'll carry on reading it.

I just discovered Raymond Feist. I've finished reading the Riftwar Saga, and I skipped the Empire Trilogy to get into the Krondor's Sons saga. Finished Ch 5 of Prince of the Blood. Excellent books.

"The Magicians" by Lev Grossman.

By the way Trigonous, you're really missing out by skipping the Empire Trilogy. It's very engaging and lets you into the other side of the looking glass...but hey, I'm not going to force you to read anything.

Interesting, young Jedi. And impressive. I loved Fall On Your Knees. Couldn't put it down (literally. I finished it in one sitting).

Haven't read The Way the Crow Flies yet. Finished Stieg Larsson's The Girl Who Played With Fire lsat night (I highly recommend it), but decided to jump into a non-fiction work. Now reading Jerry Coyne's Why Evolution Is True (I read Richard Dawkins' The Greatest Show On Earth just a couple weeks ago, so I'm continuing in the evolution vein). Sorry Iain, you'll have to wait until I'm finished this one and The Calling.

Would love to read the Calling, but nowhere in Australia seems to stock it.

Can't say if it's similar or not, but Anne Bishop's The Black Jewels trilogy is described as dark fantasy. I loved it. Very different from my usual reads.

Currently reading my textbook: A People and a Nation: A History of the United States, authored by Mary Beth Norton. It's a bit of a difficult read, but fascinating enough.
