I suppose you won't have a problem with it assuming it had male strippers as well?

Objectification for everyone! Lol

Yeah It would be better but it's not 'how it's done' but more 'the fact that it exists next to the strippers in GTA.' It's about how it fits into a greater context.

Bioware doesn't was to be compared to GTA. They want to be compared to Skyrim. Or Game of Thrones. They are going for great gameplay and stories worthy of literature. Not novelty.

My girlfriend and I loved the male Elven prostitute you talk to in DA2 in act one (trying to find the Orleansan dude's wife). We still have an in joke about his 'many talents.'

I mean I like the idea and the execution in DA2 and I loved visiting Isabella in the Pearl. But it does fall into the 'you can bang chicks in this game, bro!' Kind of novelty. It also, like I said, ties into the 'women as objects or scenery' trope a bit.

DAI is likely better for its exclusion. Better to focus on the relationships between companions or the environment or that the banter fires correctly lol.

:)

I think that the most important question is: whether the game feels more authentic and "real" with a brothel or without.

It's not about gender politics, it's about believable ambiance. The fact that something exists in the game, does not necessarily makes it morally good.

Skyhold is a brothel. I mean, the amount of sex going on in the ambient conversations. Holy crap.

Hahaha yeah

But the way it was implemented falls into the 'women as objects trope' like Chorra's Din in Mass Effect or the strip clubs in GTA.

When I see a female prostitute I see a worker, if you see an object that's a problem with you having a misogynist PoV, nothing more.

There's also the fact that there are 5 males to choose in Origins, which completely invalidates the whole muh soggy knees thing.

Meh I guess they could have stuck a brothel in one of the regions, but I don't really miss it.

Maybe because it wasn't needed for quest staging?

The Pearl and the Blooming Rose were both quest locations.

Do you have some codex entries to that effect, or is this just your assumption based on one conversation with one individual in the Qun?

Come on, do you *really* think that the Qun changes the role of an individual based on it's sexual orientation?

That's not the Qun we came to know in DA:O & DA:2, the rule system is much more rigid than that.

Sure, you can hand wave away just about anything, but this still feels to me like forcing modern real life political correctness into the lore.

The Qun is based on gender, not sex.

In DA2 you actually could talk to some of the sex workers so it's less problematic but it's still a bit trop-y.

I mean, if you want I could link you to the Feminist Frequency video on women as objects in video games trope but I have a bit of a suspicion that you'd not be amendable to watching it.

Yo, let's try to keep 'the Qun and Krem' in the thread that is still on the first page. I mean, I'm with you. But we already got a thread for that.

I don't have any lore to handwave away. I asked for some to be provided, but this is the response I get. I have one companion in DA O, the Arishock, who really wasn't very forthcoming unless it suited what he wanted, and IB. Which one of those is the authoritative source? You know, the one that fired all the codex entries that you're basing your assumptions on? The follow up is, since all three are professed members of the Qun, why is only one an authoritative source? So provide me some lore, instead of some speculation. It's hard to prove a point with "because I said so".

You've never seen Game of Thrones (or read A Song of Ice and Fire), have you? Because throwing that into this comparison is really, really funny with that in context.

I fully support the right of everyone to act according to their sexual desires, I really couldn't care less about that.

Funny how quick your are to throw the anti-whatever tag at people with a different opinion than you.

Not in the least. If you had told Sten you were a man in DAO he would have accepted it. It is you who are projecting your own social views on what gender is.

Iron Bull never gives his opinion on women fighting. Only that Krem lives thinks and acts like a man. Therefore he is a man.

Sexual orientation =/= gender identity fyi. How the Qun views biological sex vs, gender identity really hasn't come up before this.

Funny how quick you are to claim to be in support of things that you seem more annoyed enough about, that you make a random connection and must bring it up in a silly thread about the absence of brothels.

"Are they just there have sex with. Do they even talk at all?"

1They are prostitutes

2They are prostitutes

3Some of them are male

4Yes they do talk,briefly.

5They are prostitutes, their job is to have sex with you.

Most of the men in DAO are just there to kill, and you can't talk to them at all, they are objects for killing, grunting bags of xp.

I don't feel the need to "prove" anything, because I don't really care about this issue.

As far as problems with DA:I go, this one is not even at the bottom of my list.

All I'm saying is, that the Krem thing seems to attribute to the Qunari - a society from the fantasy-almost-middle-ages with the most rigid rule system

we saw so far, the kind of progressive open mindedness that you are hard pressed to find even in today's real world. That's wishful thinking.
