I don't feel the need to "prove" anything, because I don't really care about this issue.

As far as problems with DA:I go, this one is not even at the bottom of my list.

All I'm saying is, that the Krem thing seems to attribute to the Qunari - a society from the fantasy-almost-middle-ages with the most rigid rule system

we saw so far, the kind of progressive open mindedness that you are hard pressed to find even in today's real world. That's wishful thinking.

actually it fits rather well with the Qun and their society.  Allot of the stigma associated with gender and sexuality issues deal with reproduction.  But under the Qun you don't have kids.  They have men and women who's job is breeding.  And if you are to have a kid they tell you who to have it with.  Your preference or interest in the union is irrelevant.  So what would they care who you think you are at the end of the day?

What was BioWares reasoning for not having a brothel in DAI despite having it in their last 2 games? I know this was hotly debated issue many months ago.

I can understand why it's not in skyhold or haven.

Indeed. There could've been a brothel in Orlais or even Ferelden, in one of the areas we have to explore.

Btw, if anything was amiss in the game, it was the lack of cities, warden camps, farms, Circle towers, political establishments, hidden villages, dwarven settlements or elven camps and other populated places to explore. We only explore the wilderness. What about urban areas? What about other cultural locations?

To me, it doesn't make any sense that the Inquisitor should go on field exploration by himself. Especially not after the whole episode with Corypheus architecting a terrorist attack on Haven. We should lead exploration teams to find rare herbs and metals. THEY should do the collecting of said materials, NOT US.

Also, we should get to lead troops to help tame the wildlife and break into enemy bases. Am I the only one not seeing any sense in going alone with three random dudes to collect herbs in the middle of the desert while being exposed to mercenaries, giants, the undead, arcane horrors and other fucked up **** when we have AN INQUISITION to do all that work for us?

Sometimes it feels like I'm not the Herald of Andraste...and here I thought at some point in the game, we should be negotiating treaties with important dignataries, leading troops to take forts, discussing military strategy on the War Table, receiving diplomats in Skyhold, journeying by ship to far away lands to cement deals with foreign nations...no. Turns out it's fight with mercenaries, collect herbs and be hit in the head by a rock thrown by some ugly giant or get roasted and eaten by a dragon.

(Though fighting a dragon was actually cool)

I mean, if you want I could link you to the Feminist Frequency video on women as objects in video games trope but I have a bit of a suspicion that you'd not be amendable to watching it.

Implying Anita Sarkeesian is a valid source of information.

And that's the kind of discussion I was looking for, I was not here to throw insults around.

To the point, I agree that reproduction is a part of the stigma, however, I would assume that the Qun prefers male soldiers because of purely biological reasons. Increased musculature, testosterone, etc.

Using a female soldier might be sub-optimal in the eyes of the Qun, simply because the average physical potential is different.

People complained and said it was "objectification" so not fitting with Inquisition more politically correct world it was taken out. It's not that big of a loss, I though it was funny but otherwise never used it that much.

Oh and does nobody remember the drag queens in DAO and DA2's brothels, that people assumed were transgendered women, and then attack Bioware for Transphobia? Or that even when they were notified that those were infact drag queens, they still claimed that since they could be construed as transwomen that it was still "insensitive"?

Millenials who make up a huge portion of Bioware's customer base are a very sensitive generation, you can't take a step without offending one of use, therefore the entertainment industry is increasingly playing it safe in regards to content. A shame really.

I know some people think G gate is the cutting edge in industry scandals but can you not talk about it.

Or maybe do, this thread is so off topic I wonder why it hasn't been locked already.

Do you know their life story? Do they have goals of their own? Are ANY of the prostitutes characters in DAO at all? Or are they just there have sex with. Do they even talk at all, other than the 'owner' of the Pearl?

I wouldn't know, my warden went there to bang the dwarf not talk to the anyone, it's a brothel, they are paid to have sex with other people, not to ramble about their lives.

The "owner" of the pearl is a female btw, that must be blatant misandry?

In DA2 you actually could talk to some of the sex workers so it's less problematic but it's still a bit trop-y.

I'd love to know how a program that moves some pixels around on a screen can become "problematic".

I mean, if you want I could link you to the Feminist Frequency video on women as objects in video games trope but I have a bit of a suspicion that you'd not be amendable to watching it.

It's really nothing personal but I've had more than enough with the first one. I'm not in the habit of consuming propaganda and 20 minutes of some woman's sorry attempt at inductive reasoning using what is mostly factually wrong statements is certainly not "analysis" by any possible definition.

I rather waste my time playing videogames, at least they're fun (most of them anyway).

You're all just mad that you can't romance Krem.

I know I am. Not even a flirt option or anything. Damn you Bioware.

Meh, I don't think the game really needed a brothel. I don't see the point in them unless there are story reasons to go there but that's just me.

I've seen it, I didn't find her points particularly compelling. It was mostly just a bunch of generalizations and unrealistic standards.

Skyhold having a brothel just wouldn't have fit with the Andrastian underpinnings of the Inquisition. I for one never thought much of the brothels anyway and certainly didn't miss them. As much as was cut from this game and some of the bugs I rather they work on that then to have taken time and resources to write in a brothel or to, in the future, write in a brothel. Even if the game were perfect and all they were "missing" was a brothel I'd be fine with that.

Maybe not, but we visit multiple places that very well could have had one. I would even venture to say should have. Paid sex since the beginning of written history has always played a large role in war. Soldiers want comfort, the majority of soldiers are men (not being prude just facts) men seek their comfort historically through physical contact. It would fit in this game it just seems to be something that was scrapped due to priorities and time constraints. I'm ok with that, but if they left it out for political correctness I'm not.

They cover a vast amount of controversial topics from homosexuality to race. It would be very hard for me to justify them ignoring this for the sake of being sympathetic to misogyny.

There's absolutely nothing misogynistic (?) about people using their body for honest work.

Sure, but were talking about brothels here. Please don't post things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Then they should have made up a reason to go there. The thought of the glorious Herald of Andraste being seen in a brothel ... could trigger some juicy rumours. Would be funny, no?

Sure but there are lots of things they could have done that would have been funny. As I said though it's just me, I didn't particularly miss the brothel but I am in no way against the addition of one.

I will say that the way the world has changed so much since origins is a little jarring at times. The lack of a brothel is part of that as it kinda feels like the world has been sort of cleaned but not to the extent some people are saying and it really isn't a massive deal for me.
