Sorry if I'm dredging up something that's already been hashed out, but that was a pretty tepid ending, huh? When I hit OK on the last operation, I expected something like the seige of Denerim or at least the attack on the Broodmother in Awakenings. Granted, the lead-up had been pretty half-hearted. I mean, Corypheus had basically been getting his tail handed to him since Haven. He seemed a little pathetic as arch-villains go. And the pacing was weak. Nothing seemed to be building. Etc.
All that aside, when the green light came through the window, I thought: Awesome, defending against a seige of Skyhold. Maybe switching between two parties. Maybe critical choices with life and death consequences, like the Collector Base. Corypheus is going to show me just how powerful he is. Maybe even show me that his apparent weakness was all a clever trap leading up to this moment.
But what I got was teleported to a non-descript grey floating castle for a relatively short, very easy battle with what amounts to a re-skinned demon and a middling dragon. Why is the castle floating? No particularly good reason. What is the significance of this happening here, now? Who knows. It sure looks like Corypheus just arbitrarily showed up and picked a fight without any obvious planning or purpose. In the end, whereas it felt like hundreds of people were battling the Arch-Demon (on vastly inferior hardware), it took just four members of this massive inquisition to shut Corypheus down for good. And then there was a party. The end, except for the post-credit scene. Which was cool, but too little, too late.
I don't know if it's limited resources, or overconfidence in key people, but this and ME3 really leave me questioning why BioWare can't seem to pull together a solid ending for otherwise great games.
