Probably fury, but upgrade the grip and blade to include heal on kill.

Is the armor pen from upgrades? I thought it was a dead stat on mages since magic bypasses armor and is rolled against elemental resistances.

Use the Fury after you modded it with +8% heal on kill.

I think it comes down to this Veilstrike ability.

From my understanding of the stats Pyre should do a little more damage than Fury in all normal circumstances because of that high +attack stat.

Can Veilstrike trigger from ability usage like from Spirit Sword or wall of fire?  If so I would attempt to use it... but I doubt that it does and Pyre is almost certainly better.  If Veilstrike can only trigger from regular staff attacks I doubt if I would ever see the proc.

It procs on any strike.  whether using mana or not.

Damn, well I probably shouldn't have melted down my Fury of the Veil, then.

There has to be a better staff out there, like a 22 or 23 unique?  I'm still using Pyre, myself.

the veil strike proc does work on spells, but its only 2%, seems to never proc when you need it to and often proc when you don't

why is that?

Because of the heal on kill.

Necro and aw would find that a heck of a lot more useful than ele or keeper would.

Whereas fury has ever so slightly better stats for keeper / ele

Im only speculating here, but the 3% heal on kill is from an attachment, not some innate feature of the staff.  He can still get up to 8% heal on kill on the fury of the veil.

In that case I'd never use the first.

My answer is just based on the stats I see in the pic.

If I had to guess I'd say he's trying to decide which staff he should use with his shiny new Superb rune.  Btw those things do end up becoming fairly common.

you have to consider there are a lot more mooks resistant too fire than electricity, i would say  fury. Apen and Guard damage are bullshit for mage

.. but the master rune has already been applied to the staff. How can it be removed??

You can re-use a rune slot, but lose the original.

I would personally use the Veil.. like mentioned before, mobs aren't resistant to electricity (but some are to frost and fire effects). Also if i didn't read wrongly at some thread, electricity lowers magic defence? (might be mistaken tho)

I've had both of these staves for a while and have tested them both, my pyre has 2 more dps than veil though. Pyre definitely does more damage, but not by too much. Veilstrike doesnt really proc often enough to be reliable, even using SB. So its up to you on whether you want electricity damage or  a little extra fire damage.

Personally I went with Pyre. All chest guardians are weak to fire as are the ice witches and red templar knight (big weaponless one)

I can think of three enemies that resist it - the fire blob thing(demon) and the mutant templar knight and the fire spirit thing (but they are trash anyway)

Electricity is good against fear demons and shield bearing venatori (and maybe templars not sure)

The big demon that uses a lightning whip resists it (rare anyway) and lightning spirits (trash)

It comes down to what element you want even though pyre should be outdamaging veil by a tiny amount. dont rely on veilstrike, 2% is useless. The enemies weak to fire are tougher than the enemies weak to electricity so IMO pyre all the way.
