Possible ideas for "monk like" specialization in Thedas:

1. An order among the Arcane Warriors, the Arcane Monks, they dedicated to perfect mind and body in perfect harmony embodying the power of the Fade in their limbs, walking fortress, fast as lightning and able to crush mountains.

2. An order among the Seekers of Truth dedicated to extinguish magic. To further their mastery over the mind they are cut from the fade and "healed" by fusing with a spirit of valor that grant them supernatural physical prowess. They develop their strength and willpower through harsh pain developing the body to extremes beyond mortal abilities.

3. Elven slaves rogues developed martial arts to fight their masters relying on speed and deception they had no weapons and had to deliver punches and kick with strength beyond average and also had to focus on bypassing protection with extreme precision and crippling blows sometimes even using armor and shield against the opponent.

4. Qunari special forces, The Dragon Fist. Warriors identified as prodigies of the body receive special trainning, they are feared even by the strongest Qunari. Legends say one of them was able to defeat a high dragon with a headbutt. People don't know if they are magic or not but no one doubts their power.

5. After a hard training of hardening mind and body Dwarven warriors go to a place called Lyrium Waterfall, a place were a less dangerous form of lyrium exist, and meditate under the lyrium fall, those few who survive become immune to magic and develop supernatural body abilities.

6. Chantry Monk - discipline of the chantry, special forces to hunt mages, chantry monks go to the fade and forsake their ability to connect to the fade in exchange for channeling the fade through specific forms they learn from an ancient text in an unknown language. Rumors say this text was written originally by Andraste herself, others say it was encrypted ancient elven language, other say it is even from another planet however most people believe it was actually given and translated by a demon but chantry does the best to keep the order secret as well as the rumors of its origins.

7. Armed-unarmed combat (so that BW do not need to revamp equipment system or they can even use special schematics for gloves and boots, which would be cool). Rogue specialized in extreme close combat, relying on mobility and weapons attached to hands and feet they are acrobats of death that rely on unpredictability of their blows since they use all four limbs to attack at any angle even while jumping or rolling, tricksters, shadowmaster with blade gauntlets and boots.

They should be mages, beyond that I don't really care for awkward monk stuff.

Sometimes you want to just encase your hands and legs in rock, and take someone to duff city. Doesn't need to be more complicated than that.

Well, yeah it can be simple, a single skill, but in the case of a specialization it kind of needs lore...

Since Origins it was importante but now in Inquisition it is more than ever...

I had an idea floating around in my mind of a Fog Warrior Shaman, or something like that. Mages who don't have the means to construct foci with Lyrium (like staves), and so opt to use magic in tandem with their bodies.

Encasing their fists within stone and lightning, they ride in on the fog (Fade Step), punch a Qunari in the throat, and just as quickly disappear into the mist.

Punch a Qunari in the throat? That's a pretty interesting (and awesome) image.

I can't help but think of them as people who enjoy trolling the Qunari after that though.

I think literally appearing out of thin air (at least from the victim's perspective) and crushing someone's trachea would be taking a few steps beyond trolling.

Mages can do it. When an 8 year old Minaeve was kick out of the Dalish she encased her fists with fire to defend herself against hungry wolves.

For a non mage to do it I guess you'll need alchemy, but even then why bother when you can also use a weapon

In the novel, Utha was an unarmed dwarf, stabbing darkspawn with her bare hands.

Utha is the ghoul dwarf that accompanies The Architect in Awakening.

I would like to see something like this, perhaps as a similar kind of warrior to Fenris with such abilities derived from lyrium tattoos? Having enhanced martial prowess and intangibility as an unarmed character, or even as a variant of the warrior and rogue classes, would make for some pretty interesting combat options and gameplay?

Yeah well... I made the topic to start the discussion but I guess that just like me a lot of people who play Bioware games have a D&D Background so I suppose there is a number of people who miss the monk.

Origins was the last time I could play unarmed and I miss it a lot =(
