I'm trying to complete a mission, and 2 of the objects are on mountains or cliff sides that you simply can't get up. I've been walking around half the map looking for that one little spot to make it up, but nothing. WHY is this part of the game, I didn't want to play mountain climbing sim 2014, please. Any help with these, maybe the objects aren't on mountains and I've missed something?

What mission?

Is it one of the ones with a purple circle? Those don't always put the green marker in a spot you can get to. I had that once were the marker was up the mountain and I couldn't figure out how to get there only to later find out what I was looking for was just on the other side of a tree from me.

As far as I know, there ARE paths, usually with minimal jumping, up to most (perhaps all) such objects.

If you can't find a path, then there's a good chance that the item isn't up there at all, but inside a cave, or a narrow passage, that leaves off of a point in the mountainside.

Those passages can be narrow, and very easy to miss. I would walk near the mountainside, paying attention to the mountainside, especially at the nearest point to the object on the map.

There's one object, for example, where you get to through an open cave (cave like depression without a roof) - on one side of that large opening, on one wall, pretty high up, there's a nook behind witch there is a passage deeper into the mountain, to the object that I had thought, was somewhere up in the mountain.

It would be nice if the pinger was volumetric, the higher up something is the higher the pinger would shoot off from where you are in a straight line, etc... so you would have a much better idea of the elevation of what you are looking for.

A 2D pinger in a significantly 3D world has serious limits to how useful it can be.

Sometimes the objective isn't on top of the mountain but inside of it through a cave.

It be nice if the minimap, actually had a map inside of its mininess. If you have a minimap, instead of just a weird compass with blankness, actually fill in paths and things that I discover. Dragon's Dogma does it, Saints Row does it, Grand Theft Auto does it. There is the word map in the word minimap, a map they forgot to actually provide.

Are you doing the blanket quest in the Hinterlands?  It's not on top of that cliff like it says, but down below.  Also like has been mentioned, sometimes they are underground instead of on top of the mountain like it seems.

I'd guess you are talking about shards, and yes, quite a few of them force you into climbing sim situations which are pretty damn annoying. That's about it. You have to find the right place to jump.

The jumping in this game needs a lot of improvement. For starters, it would've been great if the Inquisitor could grab ledges...

I suggest right click the map in order to create a blue marker over where the map says the item is. That will create a pillar of blue light in-game, which has helped me countless times in finding people, quests areas, and items.

Don't forget that sometimes there are also magic bridges that you must rebuild with your mage. The first time in the oasis I nearly missed the "energize" icon :)

You get better results if you're jumping with a horse and like others have said sometimes it's in a cave.

If you're having trouble controlling your character's jumping on steep slopes/ stepping stones, push your camera out as far as you can go without going into tactical mode. I find it much easier to control from as much distance as possible.

I hate jump puzzles, run puzzles and walk puzzles, too, but they're in these games to stay so you have to learn to handle them.

I'm not sure if anyone here has played Rogue Galaxy for the PS2, but I thought they did a great job with the jumping / ledge grabbing portion of it. Come to think of it, you also had some party banter while running around....

Anyways, I agree to this point.

There are quests that have markers that appear to be on mountainsides (i.e. apostate cache quest), but are actually near the marker, not on it.  If the quest isn't the active one in your journal, you don't see the purple circle that indicates the goal is somewhere in the vicinity.  I wasted a lot of time trying to jump up mountainsides before I realized this.

Go around them it is hardly ever on the top of the mountain no matter how much the map makes it look like it is.
