No matter what i do i get my ass handed to me. Just fought a level 15 electric dragon on normal. I AM LEVEL 18. I brought sera, viv and cass. Sera and viv just keep running up to the dragon like die hard idiots even when i say Hold position. I just dont understand. I hate the dragon fights. Everything else about this game is awesome.

I love the Dragon fights. That being said, the Dragons attack patterns don't change, just their elements. I wish they had different fighting styles, that would make them feel more unique and interesting. If you need help with some of the fights I can link you to some of my videos, or you can post in the Combat & Strategies section.

Next time bring Cass and Blackwall - having two aggro-magnet tanks can keep the rest of your team safer.

The only reason why viv would run up to enemies, that i can think of, is if you have her knight enchanter skill, the one that produces the magic blade, and you haven't disabled the use of that skill for the AI.

I trust every member in your team has 5 regeneration potions, in addition to the healing potions? The perks that give extra healing potions, and an extra potion slot are pretty useful. If you have the third potion slot, you can use it to give bees for one of your chars, maybe healing mist or the armor thing for your squishy characters. Make liberal use of those potions.

Set your mage, in your behavior tab to defend your tank. And when the dragon pulls your peeps in, use the tactical mode to direct your squishy chars to run back out, once they can do so.

I love dragon fights.

I wish they make a DLC called Dragon Age: Let's kill some more dragons.

I want to have a dragon trophy room where I can watch videos of all my dragon kills

I wish every fight was a dragon fight.

... okay maybe that last one was a bit much - but generally yeah, lov'em. The only fights so far that's really been epic IMO.

What about having a room where you can watch your Dragon fights while fighting another Dragon and while all of that is going on there's another Dragon watching you fight Dragons in the Dragon fight viewing room?

I really am trying to figure this out. It has to be better on pc controls or something. I dont understand how anyone can have fun fighting them. I brought blackwall and cass and things were going well then all of a sudden bam! Health is down on all party members. I just dont get it. Looks like im going down to casual.

Awesome idea! Can I wear a dragon costume at the same time?

It's all about how you're approaching the situation. Bring a balanced team, two damages along with a healer and then mix your character in the middle. DA:I have actually done something that a ton of games have failed at, they've turned dragons from flying pin cushions that you can shout out of the sky (you know who I'm talking about) To masses of pure destruction. Besides if you think a level 15 dragon is bad, wait until you get to the last dragon. That ****** was a pain to kill.

Because asking them to hold position is not he best idea to deal the companion AI.

* Get to the tactical mode,

* Ask them to attack one the the back leg of the dragon (basic auto attack, not a skill),

not the tank, he should always attack the head of the drake

* Don't leave tactical mode yet,

* Now, ask them to get into a position around the dragon (not too far, not too close, definitely not behind her),

the right location is at the edge of her wing strike. The big whirlwind like AOE that force you to come closer and deflect all range attack.

* If you already know her attack pattern well,

you can stack up your dps near each other, then barrier > quickly spread out when she's about to use the party-wide electric attack.

* The drake moved? no problem, rinse and repeat.

You do not want the dragon to move too much because the of the way AI controlled Cassandra is tanking her? Or does Cassandra take too much damage or dies to often for you?

* Take the control of the tank (here Cassandra),

* stay in front of the drake, near her head.

* Abuse shield wall,

 - literally, even with 5 stamina, if you hit shield wall right before getting hit, you will not get damage, it's magic.

* If you can, throw a payback strike right after shield wall,

* You missed one shield wall? be ready for a second attack within the next second.

* The drake cast an electricity ball? use shield wall to deflect it.

* The drake is about to use electric blast/breath?

   - Run below the dragon, then re-position your tank.

   - Barrier on the tank + shield wall if you have 100% guard and stamina (not recommended since your dps might need the barrier to eat her  party wide electric attack)

Love the dragon fights as well. It's all about tanking though... forget the rogues, forget the T-H warriors. Cass/Blackwall/Viv & You. Make sure Viv is deep into KE, with Fade Step (to close the gap), Barrier (the deeper into barrier upgrades the better) and Clean Burn. The tanks will generally take care of themselves quite well so long as you're pretty deep into guard-generating abilities. Just turn off the UI for all of Viv's abilities except Spirit Blade - set that to preferred. You want her up close and hacking away with SB. It generates barrier and you can tell her to pop a barrier around the other tanks as needbe. If you're crafting armor/weapons and you have the right mastercraft upgrade - create something for Viv (or yourself if you're a non-warrior) which generates X guard / hit. That will help.

Also, one of the electric dragons will electrify the water you're standing in - watch out for that. Don't forget you can craft protective potions and don't forget your Focus abilities.

I agree they are epic but fun, well not for mw atleast. Maybe its just the way i play the game. I rarely use tac cam mainly because i find the ai just doesnt listen to me, its been like that for me since origins

I think it's the way you're playing, honestly with viv, if she's a full out knight enchanter, she should never be dying, so long as you're the one controlling her at least :)

You seem to be doing it wrong, then. I find them to be quite easy.

The lack of a proper "Hold Position" button is quite annoying, though. Definitely one of the things they should fix about Tactical Mode (along with melee abilities not triggering properly and about a dozen other things).

They are not fun, they are tedious.  The first one was cool but the dogshit AI ruins the experience.  They should not have that wing buffet/suck in ability when the ranged AI don't know how to deal with it.  Same with a lot of stuff, I can dodge fireballs, AI can't/won't.

The guy that said Cass/Blackwall/Viv/PC hit the nail on the head.  Once your party is level 15 or so, with T3 gear, you should be fine.

Forget the rogues.....what great advice, but my Inquisitor is a rogue.

What I hate even more is the dragons are already hard on their own, I have confirmed two of the dragons form their own guard. Which is a ****** to take down. I have guard penetration and the like, it just isn't enough.

I thought there would be more complaining in here about how tedious it is to wait nine years for them to lazily circle around in the air above you, demonstrating how great they are at flying, before allowing you to delete the rest of their health bar. I guess I'll start then.

They're kinda easy once you understand that you can't just run in and faceroll it... well you can but that woud be exploiting it. 1st drago can be killed at level 1.

I like using Cass/Bull/Vivi, cass and bull with dragon slaying runes, bull standing between the legs and whirlwind, plus his little guard counter skill basically keeps him alive, cass' guard keeps her alive, vivi for healing, and then whatever I'm doing.  Had good luck using the bow that shoots three arrows, those things drained their guard fast, plus kill their wyverns quickly as well

I've never understood this argument, because my AI characters hold position just fine where i tell them to, and i switch in and out of tactical/action mode all the time. (PC w/ controller) Maybe I've got their tactic set just right, or maybe other people haven't figured out the command system properly?
