How exactly do I get this?

I've been told that I get this from the demon that posesses the boy in the Redcliffe questline, which involves going into the fade :S.  So am I supposed to enlist the help of the Circle Mages in order to get a chance at meeting this demon?

You don't need the circle magi help to complete that quest.
