Specifically Hawk? No, not so much... but about an Inquisitor with a defined back story and personality, yea, I'd have preferred that. I also would have been quite happy with Hawk as a permanent companion, complete with his/hr own story missions.

For me the inquis was to defined and limited we basically had paladin or lg priest

I'm really happy they went with someone new, Hawke was way too much of a character on his/her own, it made it really hard to roleplay.

It's funny in some ways because I remember reading someplace that in the original concept for DA:I, Hawke was again going to be the protagonist as they wanted to create another "Shepard-like" character saga for Dragon Age.  However, the choice came to great a new protagonist was agreed upon because they feared DA:I would be too far linked to the bad reputation that DA:2 got even if Hawke was well liked by the fans.

I wonder now how much of that rumor is actually true.

Actually, it is true. They mentioned not a single time about Hawke to be the most important figure in DA universe. And we do know that originally DAI was planned for humans only. There were other evidences colleсted by interested in the subject but it does not matter anyway now, does it?

Hawke was the least attached character I got to...I couldn't relate to him at all TBH. I enjoyed DA2 and played through it multiple times, but I was satisfied with the cameo. (I didn't like my hawke so much that I have taken the female one each time despite rolling a male every game.) I do wish however that you could have kept Hawke around after if you saved them (or didnt tell them to die haha). Maybe Hawke could have been another advisor like Morrigan? There is definitely room for at least one more at the war table.

No im glad we have a new Protagonist. I only wish tho that Hawke, Stroud, Alistair or Lorgain was a secret companion if they didn't sacrifice themselves in the fade. Not only would it have fit the plot but it be a good way to get their reaction to our actions as a outsider.

I would have bet Hawke would have been the protagonist if DA2 had been far better received.    As it stood, making Hawke the protagonist after DA2's showing would have been commercial suicide.

Having a new protagonist was the only option.

No.  DA2 for all intents and purposes had a good if somewhat bland story.  Inquisitor = badassery.

While I would indeed like to see more character continuity in this series (and it's what makes the Mass Effect series great), it's clear Bioware is going for a different approach with Dragon Age. I'm not as big a fan of this approach, but on the other hand I like that Bioware are trying different things with their different franchises. I don't think anyone wants a return to the rut of "Do these four things in Act 2".

Give me back 'do those 4 things ' rather than: 10+ useless fetch quests, so that you can grind power to proceed the main story.

My Hawke was a borderline sociopath. Wouldn't much like the idea of him leading the Inquisition, frankly. :S

Plus, I'd be stuck playing human again. Ain't nobody got time fo dat.

I think Hawke might might actually stick around in upcoming games though. Hawke is headed north if he/she survived, where the next game is presumably going to take place. And the person who was left in the Fade, we didn't actually see them die... So that opens the door for both Hawke and the Alistair/Stroud/Loghain character to reappear somehow.

Imagine if it becomes a trend, Hawke appearing briefly in every game to provide some critical piece of the puzzle to the new PC. Then when we reach the end of the series and Hawke saves the PC at a critical moment, the devs can turn to us and say "See? Told you Hawke was the most important character in Dragon Age."

Hawke is useless and can't accomplish anything. Everything he tries to do or prevent, he fails.

Plus, if Hawke is the protagonist, we wouldn't have qunari or elves.

Well admittedly not all their experiments are successful, and there was indeed a little too much SWTOR in this game. Still, beats scanning in Mass Effect 2, which remains the single worst chore they've ever inflicted on the player.

I'm going to assume that this topic has already come up but since I've been playing the game, I've avoided this channel in the forums.

Anyways, despite the problems with DA:2, I really LOVED Hawke as the PC, the character development, personality, everything.  I also think that DA:I would be more fitting with Hawke as the inquisitor when considering he/she fought Cory in the previous game.  Outside of Shepard, Hawke is my most beloved game character and to be honest, I'm kinda sad that BioWare didn't continue with his/her story for DA:I as well.

Any of you feel the same way?

Not me.  Hawke's story is done as far as I'm concerned.

In fact, I'd rather Hawke not have appeared at all in DAI.

Not true, here is a list of hawkes accomplishments.

Hawke defeated, and prevented the arishock from taking over kirkwall.
Potentially, helped a lot of innocent mages escape Kirkwall.
Stoped black powder getting into the wrong hands
Potentially, saved fenriyal
Stopped countless idiot blood ages.
and ect.

Hawke prevented a lot of things, but failed sometimes and he/she diidnt need advisors to babysit him/her...like the inquisitor does.........

Since they were doing different voice actors anyway, I don't see why we couldn't have picked Hawke or just make your Inquisitor.

Because they would have also had to rewrite a lot of the game just for Hawke

And the Inquisitor still makes the big decisions too

The advisors only give their opinions

None of it. We've been told since before DA 2 that we're going to have different protagonists in each game, officially. We've been told that this wasn't a story like Mass Effect, about a particular character, but about Thedas. We were told in the wake of the outrage that the Warden wasn't coming back, and again in the "mock" outrage, considering BSN's initial reaction to DA 2, about Hawke. We have never been told that any of the protagonists would be returning, as main characters.

While I do agree it's good to have a new protagonist, I would have loved to have seen what my humorous/sarcastic mage femhawke with the "I don't give a damn", "life is a party", completely irresponsible and casual approach (who completely justified Carver's disapproving attitude, and my personal favorite Hawke) would have handled things. Almost everything she did in DA2 I justified by her essentially been bored and looking for something to do that day, when the chantry exploded I wish their had been the option of her blithely looking on at the smoldering ruin and commenting "well that's interesting".

I can just see her doing judgments, sitting sideways on the throne, legs straddled over other one of the armrests and a bag of snacks in her hand as she passes out incredibly ironic and ridiculous sentences on people in a lazy snarky tone. She would have a brothel built at Skyhold, everyday would be casual Friday and she would never take anything seriously, all the more serious companions and advisers would be driven insane and would cry themselves to sleep at night, I would have loved it.

My inquisitor was a very bad inquisitor. He was collecting shard in the hinterland for week.

Mine, loves herding druffalos and hallas
