This is my first time with a Dragon Age game.  Have 97 hours in so far and wondering if I decided to just move on with the story missions, can I come back into the world and work on things like killing dragons?  Or do I have to do that kind of stuff before I finish the story?

I see that Cassandra's family heritage deals with slaying dragons so I like to take her with me in slaying the remaining 9 dragons for my campaign.  Plus I built my character to look somewhat like me and I would like to continue exploring the world for this character, even if I finish the story.

Thanks for any responses.

After you have finished the story missions you can still explore the world after. However you can no longer do any of the inner circle quests but the rest should all still be available.

A lot doesn't work after you complete the game. I'd hold off or keep a back up save.

You can still do random quests but you can no longer talk to or interact with your companions.

This was a real big issue with me.

And the fact that now all I'm left with is the fetch quest I wasn't bothered to do when I was doing the main story anyway. If I avoided it before, I'm clearly going to avoid it again and again. Because Fetch quest do not interest me.

Same here. I made sure to have a save right before the last mission, the world is lonely enough with no music or cutscenes out adventuring and no NPCs of any depth to talk to or interact with without companions it would be too much to bear.

What?
My I'm glad I finished everything, now the last quest is the only thing I have left to do...
So what, your LI just sits there and gives you the silent treatment? WTF?

Thanks everyone for the responses.  I will continue exploring then as I wanted to see all parts of the realm.   Doesn't sound like much fun to explore after the story is finished.

Uhhh...

I don't know why, but I can still talk with everyone? (Edit: I can talk with them once... You were right :-/)

And I can still craft armor and weapons?

There are companions who are no longer there, for reasons but the rest is like before?

Everyone is still there but one person when I finished the game. Only Arbor Wilds won't be available when you finish off the area and continue with the main story. The area contains a lot of Stormheart, which is otherwise rare to come by. So stock up when you're there :P

At this point in time post game isn't meant to progress story but to finish things off such as dragon fights. It's highly possible that they will do post campaign DLC, and that could be why most of the inner circle quests and other things that pertain to the main plot are gone post game.

Are you kidding me? From a company known for it's characters, who have remained good despite the drastic fall off in the quality of the stories in their last few titles, unbelievable. In ME2, you could at least get feedback on the final mission from your companions.

Oh they have a little blurb that they will say if you talk to them but no more actual conversations or companion missions :( makes playing after the game pointless to me.

With Skyrim you could finish the main quest, and then do all of the guild quests. Or do the guild quests while you were doing the main quests. Damn. Thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to save the final battle for when I have everything done.
