If they are, then:
Do they use SnS or 2 hand?
What skills should the templar take?

I'm sure there will be people who will eventually find ways to do it, but for now I don't see it being possible. The templar class is mainly used for support. It doesn't deal amazing damage or provide insane amounts of protection. There is currently a youtuber who is soloing nightmare with a sword and shield reaver if you want to try that out though! Looks pretty interesting actually.
As written in another thread... You can solo the game with any spec if you survive pre-skyhold solo without spec.

A this gentleman said: Soloing is not tied to specialization. It's actually getting to Skyhold which is the problem. The Haven battle comes to mind as being rather difficult!
If you're an SnS warrior it should be vastly easier than with 2H. Turn the bolt especially becomes very useful against pesky archers and wraiths.
Nevertheless it will be quite hard until post-Skyhold. I suggest siding with the Templars, the quest is harder, but then Haven (hardest part pre-Skyhold) is easier IMO, Fiona isn't nearly as hard as Knight-Captain Denam.

If you can take out Envy as melee solo I will throw money at you.
