I'm glad they gave us the choice and I think they kind of had to - as much as I love Alix (Traynor from ME3) her voice is SO out of place on a Qunari/Dwarf female :) Same with the male actor. The American voices were picked I think due to deeper tone which works well with the more "built" race types like Qunari.

I can't say enough how in love I am with the British male voice. He did a damn fine job.

So far I like the voice acting for the player characters, except for one detail.

It's really disconcerting and jarring to hear my elves speak with a "Ferelden" or "Orzammar" accent.

I can understand why the proper Dalish accent wasn't recorded; time, budget etc. Still feels really off.

In fairness, the Dalish have a really mixed bag of accents. They were American in Origins. Irish in DA2 and Inquisition - except for Merrill who was Welsh (some might not notice the difference, but to me it stands out like a sore thumb - she might as well have a Jamaican accent). Not too hard to headcanon that it's something to do with them being scattered and dispersed and that Dalish have all sorts of accents.

On the other hand, I did pick the American voice for my Dwarf because I thought the English one sounded 'wrong', so I understand the feeling.

Well, after investing many hours now into him, I've gotten used to him, but I can now say unequivocally that the actor, as great as he is, does not fit this role.  It's like having Ghandi lead the Inquistition.  Again, the voice acting is great, but the guy just comes across as too nice and too whimpy and too much as a pacifist.  Now, if that's how you envision your Inquistor, then that's fine.  He's a perfect choice.  Now, had Sean Connery done the voice acting, I would be in gamer's bliss right now.  THAT'S the kind of voice I think would have been perfect for this human male Inquistor.

I tried playing with the American male voice for a while, but all his lines sounded so forced, like a tough guy begrudingly pretending to be nice or something.  As others have said above, he's probably great if you play a Qunari, but as a human, it just doesn't feel right (to me).

It's a shame you didn't like him as much as I did, it all fit nicely with my little elf dude. When a game can have quite a bit of customization it can be hard for a voiced protagonist to fit with your character.
