Hawke was completely out of character (Bioware needs to get this right)

Hawke was touch and go for me, but that's what I expected when I heard that BioWare were taking charge with a previous protagonist. After all, they're no longer "your" Hawke once DA2 came to an end. I'm just glad they stayed away from trying to voice and give a personality to our Wardens, because that would surely be a disaster.

This is, in fact, why I was disappointed Hawke was in DAI, and why I was glad the Warden stayed just a War Table mission.

I agree, its why I think it was a mistake to bring back a previous character because its impossible to replicate a character the way people created them.  The sad part is people were basically demanding that The Warden and Hawke be a part of the game.

I remember. Hawke turned out a little better than I expected, actually, but I voiced the OOC concern myself a while before release.

I doubt they said that.  DA2 was marketed on being able to play as a blood mage.  You could also be a blood mage in Origins.  Just look the at the DA2 trailer... Hawke is using Blood magic.   That's what the smear on his face is for.

Actually the mark on his face is just an old Ferelden tradition. Soldiers of high rank or anyone worth noting would always paint their face with blood. In Hawke's case the swipe across his nose symbolizes "Defiance and Triumph."

It struck me as a little odd at first, but I figured Hawke's got some mixed feelings on the Wardens.

Hawke's had their entire life throw upside down because Anders, a former Warden, went and decided to blow up a Chantry and start a war. Regardless of whether you romanced him or not, that's a hard thing to forgive completely and you can imagine some resentment might still linger in the back of Hawke's mind.

In Legacy s/he learned that Larius coerced their father into agreeing to help the Wardens reseal Corypheus' prison by threatening to harm their mother (who was pregnant with them at the time), while Janeka tried to kill them because they refused to help free Corypheus.

Their sibling might also be a Warden, so they're now worried that they'll also be branded as a traitor and have people sent after them, like Loghain/Stroud/Alistair, just because they rejected this foolish plan to summon a demon army.

Any of those could be enough reason for Hawke to be wary of the Wardens.

Ah, yes. All good points, especially the Legacy bit. I forgot it was the Wardens who forced her father to perform blood magic and all that jazz.

Thanks for the reply. :)

No probs.

Did anyone else also find it a little out of character that Hawke was so eager to sacrifice themselves in the Fade? It seemed weird to me, considering that Hawke had previously said in Skyhold, "Corypheus is mine!" in a way that made it seem like they were eager to fight him again and finish what they'd started back in Legacy?

Sure, Hawke is the sort of person who doesn't want people to die because of them, but it still seemed really contrived as a way to remove them from the story for those fans who hated DA2 and want to get rid of everything to do with it?

There were a bunch of other ways you could get Hawke out of the way without having to the option to kill them off for drama's sake. I'd have preferred that Hawke's story ended in Inquisition with them returning to Kirkwall, as there is a lot for them to do there to keep them busy and out of the limelight. They could have been rebuilding the city, ruling the city with Sebastian if romanced, fighting him for trying to steal their throne (if Viscount) or helping Aveline liberate the city from Sebastian's invasion?

I figured they were volunteering to do what needed to be done so that the Inquisitor could get back to the "real world". There's a lot of things we don't know about being in the Fade w/out dreaming, such as, what if we did defeat the demon, would it's realm then collapse in on us? That's sort of what happened in Origins in the Fade portion of Broken Circle, but we were only dreaming then. Could we have gotten out if we'd been in there physically?
