I remember this game when it came out. Never got around to playing it.

Is it any good?

I'd say its a fun game. Gameplay wise its your typical shooter. The narrative picked up towards the end, and was fairly interesting. It had a really broken system that allows you to ****** out your companions via headset, its pretty funny and really stupid.

It also had Laura Bailey as the LI, which is a big plus.

Ummm... Since I'm very hard guy to impress, Only one game has made it to my 10/10 list. And that game is Mass Effect. ME2 and ME3 are like two sides of the same coin, And since they've screwed up ME3 real bad, It affected ME2's rating, Demoting it to 9/10. As for ME3, I'd give it a 8/10.

Notable Mentions:

  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution 8/10
  • Portal 2: 8/10
  • Assassin's Creed: Black Flag: 8/10 "The Assassin's Creed series in general has a very decent concept, But it was mishandled by Ubisoft."

Hmm.... Not sure if there's such a thing as a 10/10 game, as no matter how good a thing is, there's always at least one aspect, however minor, that could possibly have been done better, or made more effective. 10/10 would indicate that the game was actually perfect. Bu for the sake of 9/10.. my list would be something like:

Bioshock

Mass Effect 2

Dragon Age Origins

Doom (original)

Starcraft

Command & Conquer Red Alert

Half Life 2

Diablo 2

Warcraft 3

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic

Civilisation 4

This is a very subjective list, and obviously time stamped, as clearly playing the original Doom right now in 2014 would feel like a very primitive experience, bereft of the huge, ground-breaking wow factor that it gave me back in 1996.

I'm also going to add the original World of Warcraft, the pre-Cataclysm, (and possibly even pre-Wrath of he Lich King) version(s) which was, in many ways, one of the most 'perfect' games I ever played - certainly the one that gripped me for the longest period.

Unfortunately Blizzard killed the game stone dead with their god-awful (in my opinion) Cataclysm expansion, causing me to close my account after nearly seven years, and never look back.

Try the Brutal Doom mod. :) Welcome to Modern Alien Warfare.

Star Wars Knights Of The Old Republic

There are a few bits from KOTOR1 that I'd happily take over KOTOR2. Telos felt a bit boring as the Starting-Out Area compared to Taris, especially in aesthetics. Most of the side quests felt more memorable as well.

But in terms of main quest, leveling enhancements, conversational enhancements, and dialogue overall, KOTOR2 full stop. If the gameplay weren't involved with D&D and more action-oriented, it'd be an easy spot as one of my favorites.

I have it, plus all the various graphical upgrades, texture packs, models etc. etc. etc for the JDoom source port, should I wish to play the original :D

However as games gain in complexity over the years, I now find Doom and it's ilk a bit too simplistic, because Ive become considioned into accepting narrative, or story-driven games as the norm. Games such as Mass Effec and Dragon Age are now kind of the standard for me, and anyting that doesn't immerse me in a similar way now feels stale. Admittedly thought Doom is still pretty fun for a quick stress-relieving blast.

Planescape: Torment
Mass Effect 2
The Walking Dead
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
Morrowind
FFIX
KOTOR 2
The Witcher 2
DA:O
The Last of Us
Baldur's Gate 2
Evil Dead Fistfull of Boomstick
Zoo Tycoon
Jurassic Park Operation Genesis (love zoo games when you let the animals kill people.)
Medieval Total War 2
Rome Total War
To the Moon (even though it's like 3 hours long it's 1000x more worth than the sack of sh*t called 'Gone Home.')
M&B Warband
Deadly Premonition.

^^^^

I'm aware that not all of these games are "perfect." Hell, you could say none of them are. But this is a list that includes my personal tastes and biases towards gaming. This is why, Deadly Premonition makes it in the list. It's a terrible game actually, mechanics wise... but **** do I love it.

Edit:

VTM:B
NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer
Gothic 2
Risen

Forgot about The Longest Journey, and heck, Deadly Preminition was t-i-t-s

Mmm TLJ was pretty amazing.

I debated putting a bunch of Blizzard titles on my list. Cause they do good work. At their worse their games are just alright, at their best they're some of the best gaming experiences I've ever had.

Your rating is flawed. How the hell you have 10/10 and 8/10 games but no 9/10 game?

I'm pretty sure it's my own rating system, And I'm also pretty sure I'm the one who defines its rules. That said, To me a 9/10 is as hard to get as a 10/10. There's only one game that got a 10/10 from me, And there's also only one game that got a 9/10 from me.

Why not Medieval 2 and Assassin's Creed 1 or 2?

Note: Assassin's Creed 1 Assassins are Shia! Now that makes things interesting.
