I've just about given up, can't find them anywhere. Slayed all the dragons, looted all the dungeons, farmed the high level areas, got all Josephine’s merchant upgrades and have been checking them periodically for the last 20 hours of my 80 hour playthrough. I’ve found a few coats, which are mysteriously labelled “armour” or “mail”, but even from the lvl23 Dragon, all I got was a coat with mail arms/legs… want my coat dammit!

It's getting ridiculous. Disheartening to say the least, if I do happen across it at this point, I'd only have it for about 5% of the game, and that... makes me kind of sad. Is there some magic merchant voodoo or secret loot box I've missed?

For reference, this is what I'm talking about:

They are random. I never actually found them. I just pulled them off the mastercrafted battlemaster coat that dropped from the dragon in emprise du lion. I did find a superior battlemaster coat schematic in a RNG chest though.

Pretty sure I got everything from him... unless the Coat Arms are called Mail Arms, he not have them.

If I recall, he does have Battlemage Mail Arms still in stock... if they've been incorrectly labelled, someone will be slapped.

Ugh, yeah, no Battlemage Coat Arms in any of the stores.
Looks like I won't be getting them this playthrough.

Strange, I don't remember getting a masterwork Battlemage Coat from a dragon at Emprise Du Lion... wonder if dragon drops are also random? (shakes fist at RNG)

I did find Superior Battlemage Coat Legs... somewhere. Which I am currently wearing with my Superior Battlemage Armor.

Question: if loot is random, does that mean that if you've looted all the chests in the game and you're still missing schematics, it's impossible to get the rest of them? Or do enemies drop them too?

If I recall correctly the merchants at Val Royeaux sell those items.

Yeah I tried looking for them too then I gave up and used the upgrade attached to the 3 armors (all types) you got from the Dragons in Emprise Du Lion or just use Item Editor

I got BattleMASTER coat from the dragon not Battlemage coat.

And yes, Once all chests are looted that is it.

You know that cheat engine people are using for MP turning themselves into gods? that. Do not get it unless you want to risk the wrath of the banhammer.

:crying:

G-guess I'll have to start from scratch to get all the schematics. Not a fan of this RNG system at all.

At least in Origins/DA2 I could use console commands to spawn whatever equipment I wanted to play in style.

I agree, RNG is one of the most annoying things in this game.. bugs included.. I wish they just added everything to a merchant that way you could buy what you wanted to customise your character.

What we were promised was 1000 different armor combinations and appearances and the ability to upgrade starting armor to end game stats..

What we got was 3 armor styles with 1000 different armor combinations that all look the ******* same.. and no ability to upgrade starting armor to end game stats.. what If I want to wear Orlesian battlemage armor as end game armor? Cannot on higher difficulties because the stats do not compare..

What we all thought we would get is schematics for armors and its tier was determined by the material, and colour was customisable.. instead if you want T4 you need to go with orange.. or white depending on which dragon material you use.. and for staves.. fire or well fire..

If you leave at least 1 item in a chest (not sure if gold counts), the chest will respawn if you leave the area and travel back.  For example, in the Western Approach there is a Dungeon called The Still Ruins.  Initially, there are very few enemies to fight.  If you find a chest with 3 items (say 2 items and gold), take one of the items, leave the Still Ruins Dungeon, travel to Skyhold (or a closer unlocked area) and then travel back, the chest will have respawned with random items.  So, you can use this method to farm for specific schematics although in most cases what you get is based upon RNG.

Sadly, I'm sitting at endgame and I've looted absolutely EVERYTHING before hearing about this farming method. 150+ hours and 24 levels down the drain. Sigh. :(

If you haven't already taken it, the 'The Short List' Perk (Connections, Requires 5 points to be able to take it) will give you access to rare things like Tier 3 Schematics from some of the Vendors.

Yes, I have found a few of them that way! :)
I keep checking back regularly at the vendors but haven't seen anything new in a while. Maybe I'll get lucky and they'll sell all of them.

Well, at least I'm not the only one suffering with this madness.

Like I said in the feedback forum, the thing that bites most about this random loot garbage is if you do ever manage to complete a set, the game is over. I'm not even close to finishing my Battlemage Coat set, and don't even think about Mastercraft... ugh, but I've only got like 5% of the game left, if that.

I spend 40 hours chasing the armour I want only to have no game left to use it in. Without a newgame+ it feels so pointless; a facepalming exercise, little more.

You can try 'cheat engine' , it will allow you to swap some the armor skins. It's complicated to use, but takes less time to learn than grinding mats and praying for RNG.

They've already released a "table" for a number of DA:I mods.

OK, so I just discovered that I had not started the Sulevin quest yet! So I can still farm schematics on my level 24 character! Phew! :)
