You think this is bad, you should go over to battle.net    That's the Blizzard forums and it's like a slightly censored 4chan over there.  Here isn't nearly as bad overall.  For one, the mods actually care and folks will use the ignore feature here.  :P

I think we had a few people call attention to the straight agenda being obnoxious, in sarcasm, to reflect how silly the argument is for straight males that feel victimized by the 'gay agenda' conspiracy.

I'm serious when I ask -- to avoid lumping us all together.

I always try not to lump people together if I can avoid it.  I hate blanket statements with a passion.  I'm the first to tell folks to try not to do that, no matter the group.

I assure you that wasn't meant as any sort of attack on straight men.  It was more the men (and women as well) that have trouble dealing with a transgendered NPC or a gay companion.  I know that most straight men (and straight women) actually don't give a crap either way about if someone is gay or not.  Particularly a fictional character in a video game.

I think I've said before and not accusing you of overlooking it that I thought of Krem as a he always, not to be politically correct.. "I'm a man" "Okay". I didn't mind Dorian at all, found him to be very charming and a good friend even when he was pissy, (remember the little "your library sucks" comment he made?). I think games today are a bit behind on the times, recently getting better about that kinda thing.

I know, I'm so sick of all these straight relationships.  Everywhere I turn in this game, someone guy is mourning his wife, or is a woman that enjoyed sex with Iron Bull. They have to get all that heterosexuality into their religion too.  Even the story of Andraste has to have this unnecessary story arc with her husband (ew) and how he betrayed her.   We get it, she was straight.  I don't need to be reminded of that all over the place.  I mean, that's great for straight people, but they should really keep all of this talk in the bedroom.   I don't need to hear about all the husbands and wives of straight folks.  That means I'd have to think about two straight people together.  BioWare is forcing me to do that and they're putting their agenda in my face!

I also know some straight people, but I didn't ask for their agenda to be shoved into my face every 3 minutes of the game.

If you don't get the scathing sarcasm, then the post wasn't for you.

A like for you, my love.

A playstation game that wants to be up to PC standards and fails. Been months now and they still just talking about programmable keys/mouse. But in all fairness I do just hit one button in all but boss fights (why complicate it). This Rift's MMO clone is a button mashing red bull induced Call of Duty reject...with cool movies.  Butchered skill trees /character class choices, and companion control. They built up the Mage/Templar war nicely thru narration and adventure to culminate in to what?....bring back a dead enemy and glowing a green hand...WTF? The mass effect 3 syndrome strikes again...nice build up to only come to a screeching halt, with an over thought ending ( K you did try and fix MA3 so I give you hug...still wuv you). Character graphics are just sad for modern release from Bioware, but hey it had to work in a playstation (explains alot). Scenery nice except when it refuses to fade and blocks combat...omg who playtested this. Music is stirring in cutscenes..not sure if its working right in normal play. So I built up the inquisition/skyhold for what (so this is optional like harvesting right fanboys?)...None of this effects the final battle in any serious way...click..click..click..good thing I have a naga mouse...or my f key would be dead...won't move to harvestables/loot either, gotta be right on top of it.  Bugs galore, the whole thing was rushed for release or they just could careless about professionalism and the reputation they just defecated all over (Bioware).  Really where you shine is your toon porn...thinking maybe a new line work in this field.  For this game you could have cut it in half and given me a few cool options in Origin story...sad

Well back to a game that you can be proud of that I playtested for free (what a novel idea) SWTOR. Let you guys get back to your red bull and playstations.

Exactly, we don't, we want to play a fantasy game, without all the real life Bull **** involved. Yes that includes what ever agendas you'd like to imagine, straight or gay, its all waste of space..

You know, if the current video gaming technology existed just prior to the civil rights movement, the inclusion of a black character in a game such as this would generate a response from someone much like yours. "This is a fantasy game! We don't need this "desegregation" bullcrap here!"

Is it wrong, that I just imagined you saying that with a neutral expression? I don't know why I'm so fixated on this response. It's so simple and effective. +1

Most likely yes..

I personally have no issues with any group color and or sex, i just feel games are a medium we play for fun, not for the latest in real world news, agendas or anything else..

If i wanted all that i'd go depress myself with the latest news broadcasts or similar not gaming.

and the post you quoted, both fair points in my opinion.

Myself? I wouldn't have focused so much on the lack of, well.. intimacy I felt with my companions, if the overall story had more filling to it. I felt the concept was good but it was poorly executed. Sometimes I distract myself and analyze a lot of the things I found wrong with the game because I didn't have a completely satisfactory result.. At one time I blamed the focus on trying to be so correct politically that they forgot to make the game fun, at least for my audience (no, not just straight males.. I mean people who like DARK games).

When it could just be, maybe they just wanted to make the game a lot more friendly for all audiences, that it lost its niche appeal for me.

You poor thing, so much fear to accept change. I guess you still have the same style you had 10-20 years ago.

My heart goes out to you as this is an ever changing world we live in. It saddens me when you cannot appreciate all the work that went into the space and how many times you can actually play through with finding new things to explore.

I did 3 play through's with 280 hours logged into saves before the patch 2 corrupted them and made me Rage.

But I am kinda glad they did because it forced me to start a new character and this time I am doing a 100% completion and I must say its SOOO DAMN GOOD!.

I am still finding new area's and quest and Items that i missed each play through. Just keeps continuing to amazing me.

I love the new Dragon Age, the More I play it the More I enjoy it. I am looking forward to all of the DLC and new patches that fix and add content/bugs.

Thanks Bioware, we seem to have a Love hate relationship but it's what keeps this game exciting for me. Every time I start to hate you for one of the bugs or things about the game, you get me to love you again with the Pleasant Surprises :)

Shame most of the changes made for rpg today... are dumbing down roleplay elements and make the games more easy as possible so even who dislikes RPG can play because it look shiny!...

I will say this: I was immensely disappointed by Dorian's personal quest. All the things they could have done with an endearingly narcissistic Tevinter mage and they went straight for the "gay man estranged from his father" angle.

Who hasn't seen this story a hundred times before already? And it's not like Bioware brought anything new to the table. Even the whole "He tried to change me with Blood Magic!" was just a stand-in for "misguided parent sends gay child to a shrink with the hope of "curing" him/her."

Dorian is too rich of a character to be defined primarily by his sexuality, yet after playing out his personal quest, I was half expecting to hear dialogue from other characters along the lines of, "Oh no! Somehow, we've physically entered the Fade! Dorian, what's the gay perspective on this turn of events?"

So on this, I would say Bioware were a little too eager to display their PC credentials. To put it mildly. They may as well have been standing on the sidewalk in front of GLAAD headquarters waving their arms and yelling, "Look! See what we did here?"

But I digress, barring the above unfortunate misstep, the mere inclusion of an LGBT character shouldn't ruffle feathers if you truly mean it when you say, "I don't have a problem with these people." Well, you obviously you do if immediately see them as a walking social issue or an agenda on two legs as opposed to a character who is just incidentally gay.

Wrong again mate. Quite old, in fact, plus kids. But thanks for the compliment! In case you didn't know, many peoples actually call other people friendly nicknames. Mate is one of them, Australian mainly, but you'll hear it from the Brits too... bloke, dude, chick, chickadee, birdie, flower, you name it, lots of things. Now, thing is this: Do you WANT to feel offended, like that other bloke up there, by something that wasn't intended offensively, or not? The choice is yours. Be that as it may, the intent doesn't change, regardless. Moreover, maybe it is I that should be feeling insulted by people jumping their effing guns all around and making assumptions about me and about what I said, that we are both rotten and mal-intended. Right mate? Not that I will, but maybe I should. Food for thought.

psychically adult people don't use neither of those salutation (?) when dealing with other adult people they don't know. I have hard time imagining you go apply for job and when you show up in the office you say to your interviewer "Sup dude?" or "Hey mate, I came for the job bro...". Well but if you do, good luck finding a job cos if you were applying for job in my office I would throw you out and suspected you're either drunk or highed...

to call some woman chick/flower or other when talking to her (not talking with your friends about her) is outright rude. But those are the basics of ethics, don't tell me you actually believe what you said to be truth.

that's interesting point of sarcastic view, but you're forgetting that officially there is only 4% of homosexual people therefor heterosexual relationships are the normal (derivated from the word norm) behavior since 96% of population are having them. Nobody is forcing anything upon you, or do you hate everyone who has their own children cos you look at them and have to think how they had heterosexual intercourse?

^^

and here I thought we could try to start a normal, non hostile conversation.. My friend, Bioware is trying to make all groups feel represented. If we want to argue numbers, hetero males had 2 options from DAO, DA2, and in this game. The tropes to me, were too similar so it felt like we got the short end of the stick but you'll hear a lot of hetero dudes who did not have problems with the choices they had in the game. I'm just one of the salty few that wanted 'more' from Cassandra, and too much more from Josephine.

I don't think it's fair simply say to the lgbt crowd, "it's not representative" because it becomes a question of entitlement/greed, reality? When I argue, I don't like reality, I like the fantasy universe, I need to be consistent about it. So if I want my unrealistic boob demons (desire demons), I need to also accept there might be naked dudes with big dicks out too (maybe in da4), because it doesn't exactly happen in reality. Bioware is one of the few game companies that tries to make everyone feel included.

Also lets try not to go into the "it's not normal" route in general. You'll find it actually is, and with media today, and progressive times, more feel like they don't have to hide as much as they did back then.

4.I'm not uninformed at all, I personally know some homosexual people, i just feel games do not need social issues of any real life group thrown at others who would rather enjoy the game without them, that also goes for religion, politics and any other left wing, right wing, unneeded things..

Exactly, we don't, we want to play a fantasy game, without all the real life Bull **** involved. Yes that includes what ever agendas you'd like to imagine, straight or gay, its all a waste of space..

Too many people with imagined or real agendas and issues pushing them into a game, that includes customers and the developers as well..

This line of thought that games don't need real life social issues baffles me.  Especially since you explicitly include religion and politics.  Any decent story has to deal with these things to some degree, otherwise there wouldn't be any stories.

I realize that you are talking specifically about things that happen in the real world, but here's the thing.

Just like Orlesian politics and their civil war didn't happen in real life, neither did Krem's flight from Tevinter and acceptance by Bull.

Just like Andraste isn't a real religious figure, Krem isn't a real person.

Just because an issue is dealt with in a fictional setting does not mean that it does not reflect reality.  Dickens dealt with poverty and the plight of orphans through Oliver Twist and David Copperfield.  Kafka's Metamorphosis dealt with isolation, family and identity issues.  The Chinese classic Outlaws of the Marsh is a fictional retelling of the exploits of a group of bandits during the Song Dynasty, in which they the protagonists and the Empire is shown to be hideously corrupt.

A story isn't going to repeat world events word for word (usually).  The issues dealt with, however, can still be very real.

Political corruption in Orlais, along with a stagnant civil war.  Powerful, feuding politicians wasting the strength and people of their nation in a bid to rule.

The Chantry bureaucracy's stubborn refusal to deal with reality, preferring to play power games and preen themselves.

The displaced refugees struggling to survive the war, starving and hungry, with nowhere willing to take them in.

If you don't think games have "real world issues" in them, you haven't been paying attention.  I'm assuming that you didn't intend to single out gender/sexuality issues, but unless you're willing to reduce the game to Wicked Grace, you're going to have to accept that these things come with the package.

god forbid people actually take the time to learn the mechanics of a game

the dumbing down is ridiculous and smells EA all over it

everyone that plays RPG at some point had to learn how it works

and this ridiculous notion infected bioware. I remember reading one of them, I don't know if it was the producer of DA or one of the lead writers saying he believes RPGs should reach the casual audience
